Walking down the hall, Marcus was counting the number on the doors he passed. One of the rooms on this floor was going to be his for the next few years. This was the point where he truly leaves his old life behind.

Stopping in front of his door, he stared at it for a few moments. it was a regular door, wooden with flecks of paint missing here and there. The handle was a simple brown color, smoothed by the use over several years.

Opening the door and looking inside, Marcus noticed that the normal look of outside did not match that of the outside, mostly in one key aspect. on his way here, several people had left their dorm room doors open, and he had seen inside. Not intentionally of course, but whats strange here was that while they had carpet, he could see that their kitchen area had hard-wood floors. It was even scratched in places like someone had scraped it with a knife.

Trying to put it out of his mind, Marcus went to find which room was his. choosing a random door out of the two choices (excluding the one outside) and opened it. It was empty, save for a bed and a chest of drawers. this must be his.

Unpacking his stuff, Marcus got curious. This was definitely one of the special consideration rooms, given the floor. A normal human wouldn't have an issue with carpet.

His roommate was definitely out, so he wouldn't be noticed if he was careful. Moving through the Living area again, Marcus noticed something else that made him curious: a couple of brown feathers could be seen here and there. Did he blow up a pillow? Was he a duck?

Peeking inside, he was surprised by what he saw. it was a nest in a box. Maybe his roommate was a duck. If so, he had good taste in books and music, judging from the contents of the bookshelves. Picking up a random book on the desk, Marcus was in awe, this was a top-seller back in England, and he wasn't able to get a copy. He was dying to read this.

Evander should not have been surprised about receiving a notice from the residence authorities about being assigned a new roommate; he did, after all, have a spare, unmodified room in his dorm that sat unused for the most part. Still, it was an unsettling thought, having to share his dorm with someone else; the small gryphon had gotten used to being by himself, with just his record collection and gramophone in the corner, a simple wood framed bed lined with straw and and feathers, and a low-lying table with his laptop sitting on it…

However, Evander probably wouldn't have been there to greet his new roommate when they first arrived. He had taken a short flight that morning to stretch his wings and get the blood flowing; the air was warm and billowy under his wings and perfect for soaring, a feeling he would miss for a few months as winter began to settle in during the next few weeks, and one he wanted to relish in for what few final days he would have with it.

Several hours had passed since he had left at six o' clock that morning, and it was about fifteen 'til ten when he caught sight of the school on the way back, and there was an uneasy feeling as the gryphon alighted gently through the large, open window in the living area of his dorm. All the doors were left open, and there was a bag in the doorway of the unused room: his new roommate must have arrived earlier. By the sounds of shoes on the wood floor in his bedroom, they must have gotten curious about their new neighbor... A hunch shortly confirmed as the gryphon walked into his room to a young man with black hair looking at his desk.

"I'mma take a guess an' say ye huvnae read that yet ," the gryphon said with a smile, noting the book in the fellow's hand as he hopped up into his bed, "An' I'mma take another guess an' say that you're mah new roommate."

Okay, so not a duck. Marcus was surprised at the Gryphon walking in the door. How did it fit in the hall? It had to have come in through a window somewhere. He read about these for years, but he never expected to see one in the flesh, even if he tried to use his powers. And now one was his roommate. And it -he?- talks too!

Even despite his amazement, he was startled when he heard a voice, and almost dropped the book, catching it in a fashion that could be described as almost comical. "S-sorry." he stammered, watching his roommate climb into the nest.

Was that a Scottish accent? It sounded like a mix, to be honest. "I'm Marcus. As you guessed, I am your new roommate."
