between the sheets

Feeling a little bored of studying on a too-hot afternoon, August paced through his dorm room listlessly before an idea came to him. Gathering up pillows, blankets and other such fluffy items, August bundled them up into the widest sheet he owned. Tossing books, papers and snacks in on top of the things, August stepped back, surveying his room for any missing items. Standing with a finger pressed to his cheek, he decided against setting up in his room. What was the fun of a fort if no one could admire your work?
Hefting his load over a broad shoulder, August launched himself through the door frame, his legs working uselessly as the fat bundle of bed things refused to squish itself through the solid wood. Throwing his entire weight into it, he stumbled as it finally gave, throwing a pleased look behind him as he assessed that no rips or tears had damaged the fabric in the process.

Trotting on towards the student lounge, he was a little pleased to see that it was still fairly quiet, giving him just enough time to set himself up in a corner. Stealing assorted chairs, August made a tiny castle in the furthest right corner of the room, stacking footstools to make a little entrance way. Dropping his pile in the centre of the chairs, August carefully placed his books and papers under one chair, and the snacks under another. Dragging the wide sheet out from under the pile, August snapped it over his castle of chairs, letting it land neatly over everything, covering the whole structure almost perfectly. A small blanket was all that was needed for the entrance, and he quickly crawled inside to set up the decor.

Spreading a fluffy blanket out over the floor, he piled more blankets and pillows around the edge, creating a wide nest for himself to study in. The four biggest pillows he reserved for a throne for himself, and he set it up near the snack chair. Happy with his new home, August propped a book up on his knees, lazily combing through his snacks to pluck a small bag of crackers, leaning back into his self-made throne to return to studying.

<div align=center>The heat wasn't something William favored, hot weather made him uncomfortable and more often than not he ended up getting sunburned, despite the fact he rarely took whatever top layer he usually wore off. He was feeling good about himself this afternoon however, a rare occurrence. It was more or less the first time he'd stepped out of his room today, gussied up and pretty. Not that he wasn't usually, but he felt it today, and it was a good feeling. The lack of a certain foil hat also suggested that feeling, things were better when he felt good. Thoughts stayed out.

The lounge was empty when he passed through, aside from the structure of a little fort made from various bedclothes that made the boy pause and stare, lifting an eyebrow and laughing softly. No one had ever thought of that before. Not even himself. Was there anyone in it? Yes. Yes there was. The inhabitant was the only other person in the room however, at least the only other mind Bill could feel. Everyone else was outside enjoying the weather, perhaps this was someone after his own heart.

He ran a hand through his hair, pushing his fringe away and watching the fort for a moment more, he wondered who was in there. William wasn't the kind of boy to make rude intrusions, however, his curiosity was slowly getting the better of him. "Dude I like your castle."</div>

Engrossed in the boring studies of whatever-this-book-was-even-about, August had failed to notice that someone else had entered. Moving to set down his book, a voice complimenting his castle threw him off guard, and the heavy book landed with a loud thump on his knee, sliding off onto the floor. Cursing, the boy quickly shoved the book back into it's place under a chair, and he slithered out to the entryway, his head and torso poking out regally to see who dared interrupt the king of the student lounge.

Blinking up at a very pretty man, August was struck a little dumb for a moment. He had been preparing to shoot off a mean comment, but that idea had faded rather quickly. "Oh, I ... Thank you. Would you ... Like to come in ...?" He was starting to get better at this friend thing, as unusual as it was. Frowning a little bit, August shifted his weight to one hand, while he rubbed his newly bruised knee. "I've even got snacks in here. It's much better than suffering going outside."

<div align=center>William almost started when someone emerged, frowning at himself. You knew someone was there. Still, it had surprised him when the person that emerged was a man, and a rather attractive one at that, nicely formed and handsome. William liked his face, and therefore the offer August gave him wasn't something he wanted to decline. He hesitated for a moment, before dropping to his hands and knees and crawling underneath the pillow fort. It was awkward to fit those mile-long legs in there, but Bill was flexible enough for it not to be all that much of a problem. "Hello." He chirped, shuffling back into the corner and bending his knees up into his chest.

It was cosy enough in here, and the bedclothes carried a pleasant musky scent that made William want to curl up in them. He brought a section of the sheet to his nose for a moment, purring softly and giggling. "You smell nice." Being in here was much better than going outside, the boy nodded.

"Tell me about it, the sun isn't as great as everyone thinks it is." He pouted a little, "all it does is burn." No matter how careful he was he'd always find the sun got to him somehow. He suppose it came with being a pale recluse who never went outside anyway. "Who are you?" He asked, tilting his head to the side, "my name is William, but I suppose you could call me Bill, or Will... Or Bilvy.... Or, well... Anything, I guess." He would most likely responded to anything even remotely similar to his name, there were a lot of variations.</div>

Pleased that his invitation was accepted, August quickly popped back into his man cave, settling and watching the stranger adjust himself. He felt a little bad that he had not made the enclosure a little bigger, though. "Smell nice...?" An uncertain frown creased his brow, as he worked to think of an appropriate response. He had never been told about his scent before, that was definitely a new one. "Ah, yes. I tan easily, but I do prefer the winter. I'm August. Good to meet you, ah, Bill. I'll go with Bill."

Pushing a dark shock of hair away from his forehead, August scooted over to his snack chair, his fingers closing around a little cookie package. "D'you want a cookie? Or something ... I've got loads of snacks piled up. I didn't know how long I'd be here so ..." Tossing a glance at the hoard of packaged foods, he felt a stir of pride for his exemplary cupboard. He didn't really want to go back to studying, especially since Bill had effectively managed to capture his attention. "So what brings you down to the student lounge? I was going to study but decided that's a bad idea."

<div align=center>William nodded enthusiastically, scents were very important to him. If someone smelled nice that made them a lot more attractive than if they didn't, or rather, merely smelled average. William didn't know if he could say he preferred the winter, he got sick in the winter, and burned in the summer. Fall was his favourite season, he thought. It was the perfect balance between hot and cold, and besides, it was ever so pretty. "It's nice to meet you too, August!" That was a nice name. Far more interesting than his own. His face lit up completely when asked if he'd like a cookie. Of course he would.

"Yes, please." He chirped, taking one and nibbling at one of the edges. William shrugged when asked what brought him in here, he swallowed the piece of cookie he was eating before opening his mouth to talk again, however. "It's just usually quiet in here when the weather is nice... It's nice in here when it's quiet, I don't like it when there's a lot of people around." It wasn't that he disliked people, they just frightened him for the most part, and too many people in one place gave him an awful headache. He got the feeling he might have interrupted August's study session, he felt a little bad about that, and apologized softly. "I hope it wasn't all that important."</div>

Politely waiting until Bill had chosen his cookie, August took one as well, setting the package down between them just in case he decided on a couple more. He looked like the sort who enjoyed sweets like these.
Listening quietly as he bit into his own cookie, August nodded sympathetically from time to time. He could understand not enjoying being around people. It was far easier to be by yourself most of the time, and for the occasions when he was lonely, well, he had a cheetah for that.
"I like to be alone, too. People are too much to bother with. I'm a cat person, myself. My cheetah is back in my dorm, though. She doesn't like going out much either."

Shrugging as he nipped another piece off of his cookie, August cast a glance at the loathsome books and swallowed his bit.
"Couldn't have been that important, I can't even remember what I was reading about. Besides that, you're far more interesting than a book."
Raking an appreciative glance over William's appearance, August allowed a sly smile to grace his lips before sliding the rest of his cookie into his mouth.
"Have you got any hobbies?"
A little awkwardly, August was beginning to feel the start of the deep-rooted anxiety that came with trying to continue a conversation with a cute stranger.
"I uh, like fire."

<div align=center>William nodded when August said he was a cat person, he wasn't really sure himself. Dogs were nice, but so were cats. They were very different animals he supposed, he'd never owned either. It was hard to choose until you'd had a real pet, he supposed. The boy's face lit up when August said that he had a cheetah, however. "W.. What?" That was exciting. He felt just a little envious, it'd be so much fun to have a pet, even a dog. William had a fish over at Gabriel's dorm (though in reality it could probably be called Gabe's fish, William didn't do any of the looking after part except for feeding.) "Oh that sounds like so much fun! What is she called?"

William blushed hard when told he was more interesting than reading a book, people didn't tell him he was interesting very much, scratch that, people didn't compliment him very often. "Oh.. I.. Th.. Thank you." His face reddened even further, and he let out a soft, boyish giggle.

"Hobbies? I uh... I guess I can kinda play guitar... Maybe sing a little." His eyes darted up again when August spoke, he wondered what the boy meant. Out of all the people he'd met here, he hadn't met a pyromaniac, would he have called August that? He didn't know yet. "What do you mean?" He lifted an eyebrow, "what can you do?"</div>

Gisa always managed to come up in his conversations, no matter what they were about. He could be talking about trains and he could still manage to squeeze a mention of his cheetah in the subject. "She can be a handful. Her name is Gisa." It wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't such a baby. A tiger would be much more exciting — those are actually indimidating. More than pleased to see his new companion redden, August returned a slight smile at the soft giggle.

August straightened up at the mention of instruments, especially the guitar. From a young age, he had been encouraged to try to play the piano, but it wasn't too long before he quickly gave up and focused on proper boy things like sports. "I can make fire. It's the most fun, starting a forest fire." It was too exciting to watch the forest go up in smoke, especially if you came back later to see everything all crisped and charred. Ashes were a bit like snowflakes when they fell, firey little snowflakes. Offering out a hand, August continued, "I'm hot, too. See? My body temperature is higher than most people."

<div align=center>Gisa. That was a nice name. William liked it. He'd never met anyone with a pet as exciting as that, that was much funner than a dog. "I bet she's smart, have you seen her run before?" Cheetahs were fast, he knew that for a fact. He'd never seen one in real life before, though. Perhaps he'd get to meet her one day, he wondered if she was soft to touch. Was she like a dog, or more like a really big house cat? William had an absolutely endless stream of questions to ask about the animal, but he thought poor August might get irritated if he continued to persist.

His eyes widened considerably as August told him what he could do, fire. Fire was scary, but on the other hand it was so pretty. William's family had had an open fireplace at one point, he'd sat by it for hours in the winter. It was so warm and cosy. William gently took the man's hand as he offered it to him, pushing his palm to his own cheek and purring softly. He was warm. He was so warm, and all at once William rather desperately wanted to cuddle him. "Wow I bet that's useful in winter, do you need to wear a coat?"</div>
