Bertrand is picturesque to look at. Like an ancient Roman statue he appears too perfect at times, in an almost unsettling way. He is clean cut and devoid of any body or facial hair, scars, or blemishes of any kind. His hair and clothes are never unkempt, and at worst blow dramatically in intense wind.

He doesn't exactly glow, but it almost seems like he might. Particularly in dark areas, Bertrand stands out as though he is bathed in sunlight.

He dresses rather formally much of the time, tailored suits in whites and blues making up much of his wardrobe. Otherwise, when he is out in his public 'hero' persona, Cavalier, he wears a suit of knight's armor apparently made of white bronze and inlaid with ornate Lily flower designs.

In public, Bertrand is kind and caring, with a measured patience and understanding well beyond his apparent years. He is generous to a fault and offers help wherever he can. To some his overt kindness is grating, or at least makes him come across as naive.

As Cavalier, these qualities are kicked into high gear. He is charitable and proactive in the community and has a general air of confidence that might border on arrogance. He is diplomatic and hates resorting to violence, despite being physically suited for it.

In his quietest moments however, Bertrand is tired. He feels the pressure of putting on this public persona constantly and it wears on him. He secretly wishes he were just a normal person and that he had been raised normally so he didn't feel the obligation to give and give until he has nothing left. He also fears that due to his nature, he might not truly be a good person since the cannot refuse a cry for help.

Active
Hard Walls Around the Soft
While Bertrand is actively protecting Innocents from harm, he is entirely invulnerable and unbeatable. No abilities, powers, or magic will affect him in any way. This effect ends when the danger is no longer present or has been defeated in any manner. When this occurs, Bertrand succumbs to all of the effects that he had previously been immune to. He cannot flee from battle and if possible must put himself between the Innocents he is protecting and immediate peril to their persons.

Armor of God
Bertrand can summon a suit of armor onto his person at any time. It is as strong as a well made suit of armor but weighs only half as much, allowing him to be far more mobile than he normally would be. The armor comes with a cape that he can detach. If this cape is wrapped around a person other than Bertrand himself, it stabilizes their wounds, keeps them safe from the elements, and protects them from damage outside of the cape.

Passive
Angelic Physique
Bertrand is three times stronger, faster and more agile than a human of his physique should be. He also has five times the physical endurance of a normal human.

Angelic Flight
Bertrand is capable of flying under his own power. He can reach just under the speed of sound, though this requires him significant time to build up to.

Angelic Beauty
Bertrand is always perfect to look at. His hair never falls out of place, his clothes never wrinkle, and dirt seems to fall off of him like nothing. He does not glow, but seems like he might. His teeth sparkle when he smiles. Light always hits him in a way that makes him stand out slightly.

Heroic Resurrection
When Bertrand dies, he can resurrect if two conditions are met. First, he must have died acting in the defense of Innocents. Second, at least one person for every two he was defending (minimum one) must shed a tear or otherwise acknowledge his sacrifice in a positive way. If both conditions are met, Bertrand will resurrect the following dawn. He is unaware of this ability.

Weakness

Bertrand cannot refuse a request sincerely asked of him by anyone so long as the request does not fall outside the realm of legality or reasonable decency.

Demonic Anathema
Weapons and magic of demonic nature taint Bertrand’s being. Wounds caused by them fester and spread until he is blessed by an ordained Catholic Priest, at which time they will heal.

Oath of the Chaste
If Bertrand sins in any regard, he loses access to all of his divine abilities until he properly confesses and atones.

Bertrand was born to the daughter of a naval captain, apparently a virgin, in 1893. She bore a son with golden hair and bright blue eyes, despite her entire family having dark brown hair for generations. The baby seemed to glow and there was a kind of presence around him. He was taken in by a convent, where it was discovered that he didn't seem to age the way other children did. While the others grew in size rapidly, he seemed to lsg behind considerably. This was easy to hide at first, and the nuns did so because they believed him to a result of immaculate conception.

He was eventually discovered however and taken under the care of a ministry within the British government dedicated to the supernatural. He continued to grow slowly and eventually it was discovered what he was. The decision was made to train him to be a soldier, a supernatural weapon against potential incursion. That incursion came far sooner than they expected, with both World Wars occurring in the same century.

As Bertrand aged however, he grew in a different mindset. The books and media he read in his free time ingrained in a sense of heroism in him. Life in his secret facility was fairly routine for many many years. He learned about the outside world via the researchers and soldiers tasked with caring for him.

In the late 1990s however, it was determined that the project couldn't be continued. There was no feasible way to deploy Bertrand in a conflict without breaking the Veil. The money used for the project could be better spent elsewhere. Bertrand knew about Manta Carlos and asked to be sent there. For a few years he was denied and basically had to fend for himself until he stopped a conflict and left uninjured despite being heavily outnumbered. The media gawked at the mystery hero for a few weeks, and the Scouts came knocking.

Once on the island, he decided to take up the name Cavalier and help people the way he had always wanted. He went to school for a time until he met a young woman in need named Juliet. He helped her per her request, and they began living together. Circumstances led to them needing to part however and he has mostly dedicated himself to his work again.

Salary from modeling contracts. Has a modest apartment with room for two, but lives alone.
