Personality Description: His purpose in life is essentially to mess with whoever picks up his Book. How he does that is all up to him. Not a very serious person, quick to make a joke, and can take one just as easily. Short fuse, throws his two cents in, regardless of if it was warranted. Gets jealous of other people talking to the wielder of the book. Has authority problems, the name Gratuity is a trigger. Gets his kicks out of messing with the wielder, but can become extremely protective if their lives are threatened, lest the wielder die and he be forgotten. Can become vulgar if angered. Not one to become emotional over little things. It takes a lot to move him.
Powers:
-logic manipulation
--this entails that rules, any rule that would apply to the wielder or him, he can change.
--things that are labelled impossible, become possible, et cetera.
--it only affects the person who wields the book, and he cannot manipulate free will or bring people back to life.
--can manifest things only if they already exist, have existed, or will exist. Sorry, no unicorns yet.
-illogical maze creation
--in which he can manipulate architecture and doorways of the room the Book is in and the rooms adjacent. Out in the open, he has a 300 foot radius.
--this means he can make it possible to walk up bookshelves, make door A lead to door B, door B to door Z, and so on.
--if he is just manipulating a door, he can make the door lead to any other room in the building, as long as the Book has entered the room.
--he can also generate furniture, manipulate existing structures, such as a wood floor, to make a wooden wall. Cannot make anything out of thin air.
Biography: His story begins with a little girl named Gratuity. Gratuity was an intellectual prodigy, compared to her time and ours. However, her father, a missionary from france, and was living in the residence of the Pharaoh at that time, demanded that such knowledge be kept secluded in the palace, that no one should be able to corrupt said knowledge. Her father supplied her with a few books and a journal, and consulted her as a prophet, who instead of actually seeing the future, she used statistics and probability to 'see the future.'
As she was secluded, she created an imaginary friend she called 'Book End.'
His purpose, besides to provide companionship, was to challenge her and entertain her with games. Primarily, mazes. And after she begun solving even the most convoluted mazes he could concoct, he began creating mazes that wouldn't make sense. And thus began the run of illogical, Usher-esque mazes. This continued until her 19th year. He, in her mind, was still very much real. She had contracted the flu, which was a death sentence back then. And on her death bed, she wished more than anything, than her own life, that others would see her Book End as she did.
And as she drew her last breath, he drew his first. Benedict was enraged at the fact that Gratuity had died and he couldn't do anything about it. So he began a war path, using her name as his sword, and his powers as a shield. He destroyed the palace, and made his way around the world, searching for someone to bring his friend back, and destroying those who couldn't. After deciding that this world couldn't help him, he made his way to Camelot, and found Merlin. He demanded that he bring Gratuity back, and instead found himself trapped in a book, by the hands of Merlin.
Since then, word had been passed about a powerful man who kept himself together like a pair of book ends, but when he broke, so did the rest of the shelf. This word was twisted and contorted into a rough bogeyman of the Middle East. And all the while, the Book was passed from hand to hand; locked up, just to be released as quickly. He was, to those who knew the stories, the Genie in the Lamp, the Fairy Godmother, and was reduced to a Book that granted wishes.
The book made its way to the Academy some time back, by one way or another, and was added to the library. ::cough cough hint hint::
Additional Information:
He is a Tulpa Being. Thus he is maintained by belief, such as the boogeyman or the tooth fairy. As such, as word changed of what he was, his image changed with.
He is growing impatient. Bored even. The next wielder better come soon.
