behind a silver pendant

Ania blinked as wings suddenly began to appear. Those hadn't been there before, had they...? They were pretty wings, too. She really wanted to touch them. Touching a teacher's wings would probably be crossing some boundary, though, unfortunately.
A dozen gave her pretty decent chances, at least. She would probably feel much more nervous if she was the first one to get this thing. Hopefully none of his other experiements backfired on anyone.
"My boyfriend...?" She didn't know where to start. They had been together for quite a while now, and had gotten good at accidentally injecting him into conversations. However, no one had directly asked about Hadrian. "Hadrian? Well, he's ... Blonde...? And can travel in time. He took me to Rome once, you know. We saw one of those gladiator fights together. It was scary to watch, but he held my hand, and it wasn't so awful anymore. The noises, though..." Shuddering at the memory of the sound of the spear ripping through exposed flesh, Ania shook her head and continued on. "He's nice. Sometimes. He's even got a tiger! I like the tiger the best, Altair is warm and nice to sleep with. Hadrian brings back lots of neat things when he goes somewhere. I once got a little crown thing-- I've still got it around, somewhere... Oh, but why did you want to know about him?" She hadn't realised that she had rambled so much, and felt a little creepy for it.

I need a story. he said, feeling her words hanging in the air and his power dragging them in, injecting them into the cold metal, and making it warm. Or a voice. I don't really know. he said, frowning a bit. But something of the person has to be present, otherwise the pendant either won't work at all, or won't work very well or long. He thinks about all the failed attempts, and knows for sure that this is the way it is supposed to work.

I have to admit that's a new one. he then said, opening his eyes again. The hardest part of it was over. Now, it was all about absorbing the... whatever the pendant's power was made of until it grew cold again. A time traveler. Must be a neat power to use on a history test. he laughed, feeling the pendant growing warmer by a second. This won't take long.

Tell me more. It will go faster.

"Oh! So I should probably just keep talking, okay. I can do that." She had to think for a moment, though. She didn't have very many stories pop into her head, except stupid ones from her childhood. "Yeah, he's real good at history. He's good at debating, too. He's very admirable, I think. Sometimes I think I've grown too attached, but, I don't care." This power thing was turning into what sounded like a therapy session, and she quickly turned it back around to the original subject. "I'm pretty sure he's sold some artifacts that he's brought back, too. I bet they're worth a fortune these days. We got one of those broom hats while we were in Rome, the little things with the red poof on top."

It was too big for her of course, but she cherished it wholly. "Uhm... We once went to the zoo! We went to see the penguins first, but that was a pretty big mistake. I don't know what they feed those creatures, but one of them came right up to us and it just looked so ... Demonic. Even poor Hadrian was terrified of it. Well, at least he ran instead of kicking it. It would be nice to go back to the zoo, I think. Um. I'm running out of stories, is that enough talking for now...?"

Michael frowned. The pendant wasn't going cold get, but it was close to the breaking point.

One more. he said, closing his eyes again. It doesn't have to be about him. Just keep talking. Anything would do.

He wondered briefly if selling artifact you have brought from the past was legal. Then again, it certainly wasn't illegal as there was no law against it, and seen through the eyes of Manta Carlos Island it certainly wasn't any different than reselling the souvenirs you have brought home from, let's say, Greece. The example was completely accidental.

As he kept thinking about the stupid stuff, the pendant in his hands grew even warmer and started turning orange, which was a sure sign that it was so near it's breaking point that it would just need a word more before it turned cold... Like that.

Or perhaps not. he said, letting go of the metal. It is strange. It has never done that before... frowning he tried to inspect if there was anything faulty with the pendant, but came with nothing.

Perhaps it was scared of the penguins as well. he decided, putting on the string and then handing it over to her. There.

Ania stared with wide eyes, hoping she hadn't said anything wrong. Maybe she shouldn't have spoken about the penguins, anyway... Perhaps the demon penguins had ended up breaking her only shot at this. "It... It's good, though, right...?" Gingerly taking the pendant from him, Ania examined it.

Putting it on stiffly, Ania stared at the man across from her with wide eyes. She certainly didn't feel any different. "Um... Does it... Does it work?... I can't tell." Oh! But there was one way to find out, wasn't there?! Looking down, she pressed the little coin tight to her chest, just in case. Her head snapped back up to stare at her professor, and she scrambled up out of her chair. Pouncing across the distance that separated them, Ania threw her arms around her teachers neck and kissed him. Drawing back, Ania folded her arms across her chest tightly, one eye closing, hoping she didn't feel the familiar sensation of shapeshifting. Why hadn't she set out a cup of water just in case? It didn't seem like she was changing, anyway. Maybe it had worked after all! "I think it's working...! Thank you again!"

Well, that was unexpected. Michael thought, blinking at the girl holding a pendant tightly to her chest.

It is nothing. he said, shaking his head. Though you could have waited for your boyfriend to test that. he laughed, as he got up to put the box of pendants back to the shelf, his ghostly wings still hanging from his beck. Usually, they would be gone about 15 minutes after the pendant was created.

I'm glad I could help. he then turned around, and smiled. Be sure to tell all your friends that it works as well, okay?
