John didn't drink often, it was rather ironic really, he'd turned eighteen not to long ago, yet booze just didn't seem interesting. He already felt emotional numb most of the time, he was already lost and damaged, throwing alcohol into the mix seemed pointless in a way. Tonight however he'd found his way into a bar and gotten a few drinks in him.

It seemed like a slow night for the bar, only a few patrons present at the moment, leaving the majority of the establishment empty. So he soon spotted someone, a girl around his age, he didn't socialize a whole lot so it wasn't a surprise to see someone he didn't know.

Ordering two more beers, he approached the girl's table, "good evening," he said, giving a calm friendly smile. "Mind if I take a seat?" once he'd gotten permission, he took his seat, setting the beers down, one for him and one for her. "I'm John Rathier." @StarryNightSora

"Why thank you Mister John Rathier, how nice of you to offer the only girl in this bar a jug of beer", the tone of sarcasm present throughout her entire statement, but so was her smile. Chuckling, she took the beer, and after a repeated head nod signifying her thankfulness for the gesture gulps the entire thing down.

"I am Astera, moved to this place last week actually, don't know if you can tell I am a Fob though," she said, whilst slowly examining the man's face. Trauma, sadness, numbness, the man was walking with those words attached on his face like acne. Still smiling at the guy, she grabs his arm and looks at his palm. "Sooooo, would you rather tell me a little bit about yourself, or should I find out myself" she winked and laughed at herself.

He tilted his head as she spoke, sarcasm but with a smile, he didn't know why, but he was immediately intrigued. "Well, couldn't just let you go without a drink, which also means I can't let you drink alone," he said with a small smile and chuckle before downing his own drink.

"Good to meet you Astera, and welcome to Manta Carlos. I've been here..coming up on a year now," gods, it didn't seem that long, but it had been. "It's quite the place, you'll see everything from dragons to gods," he grinned a bit.

The young horseman remained calm, even as she grabbed his arm, he was death, there wasn't much he should fear. "But wouldn't telling take away a bit of the fun?" he asked teasingly, this was new, or at least something he hadn't experienced in a while, just enjoying talking to someone. "So..palm reading?" he asked curiously, "let's see what you can find."

"Well well well, let's see what we have here then!" exclaimed the girl, with curiosity basically written all over her forehead. Holding his palm, she can feel the roughness of his skin as she loops her fingers around it.

"Okies, so I will be reaaaaaally really focused now, here it goes!" she said, and immediately falls into a trance. Her hands no longer holding onto his, she lays there in front him as if a rigid plank on the chair. The sound his breathing, the clinking sound of ice in his drink fading away, her vision now pitch black, she focuses.

A door appears in her vision, she opens the handle and peers through. The sound of the vision beginning to take form. A silent whisper, she takes another step. A semitone mumble, she takes another one. A clear voice, she takes another one. A screech of pain, she stops. Opening her eyes, she now sees around. Blood. Death. Corpses lying limply across the floor, her sole reaction is one of shock. Sound comes back again, and this time it appears to be a toddler crying, when she turns around, she is met with what appeared to be Jonathan but younger, crying over two specific bodies. She walks back and closes the door.

She is back at the bar, with Johnathan staring intently at her, she realized running down her cheeks were tears. She immediately wipes her face and chuckles, clearing her throat one last time before she says "Well Johnathan, how about you order us a couple more drinks and tell me a bit about you. I saw things that left me a lot more interested, and a lot more worried about you. Before you ask me what I saw, I will just tell you this: The past. But until you tell me about it yourself I can't talk about it, blame the palm reading rules".

He thought she'd been joking, but when saw her face he knew that she'd actually done it and her words confirmed it. She'd looked into his past, she'd seen things, and his past held a lot of death and pain, things most didn't know about, things he tried to forget. Taking a breath, he got them both beers and took his seat in front of her.

In truth he wasn't sure if he wanted to talk, or where to start even if he did, but something about this girl drew him out. "Well...I was raised in upstate New York," he did say born, because he'd discovered that he wasn't born, just summoned. "My dad was a general in the military, so you could say I'm an army brat," he chuckled a little, he missed them and he often wondered what his father would think of him now.

"They were normal, didn't know about the supernatural, I hear some military officials are aware of it, but my didn't," he sipped his beer. "It's weird looking back at everything you know," this wasn't a conversation he'd expected to have, hell he'd expected to flirt, maybe get laid if he was lucky. @StarryNightSora

Astera chuckled at his surprised look at the fact she knew so much, "typical response, I told you palm reading works," she said playfully winking at him and laughing.

But seeing what she had seen, her curiosity was in peak. "So Jonathan mister Yankee doodle army brat, I showed you a bit of my power, how about you show me or tell me a bit about yours," she said while placing her hands together and giving him puppy eyes, she wanted to hear and learn more about him. She had noticed even talking a bit about his dad made the aura of pain around him to emanate, and if she kept drinking beer as she was right now, she would probably end up doing something about it.

"Afraid the powers I can show you would probably get me kicked out," suddenly shifting into his armed death form would definitely startle the staff, "and I can't really show you my other abilities." Astera would be noticing an increase in any pain she could detect, he hated his other power, being able to sense when a person was going to die soon, it was curse as far he could tell.

He took a big gulp of his beer, "do you really wanna know? Might kill the mood." She was an attractive girl, she pulled the puppy eyes off well, "well....I can sense things, sometimes see them." He motioned a little to a man at the other side of the room, "it'll be soon for him, I can see it on him, like a..white wispy claw closing in." Finishing off the beer, he motioned a waitress for refills, he waited until the waitress had given their refills to continue, "death is inevitable...or at least it is for most. When the end is near for people, I can see and sense it."

John slid one of the refilled mugs to her, he couldn't help but wonder about how she'd react, he rarely talked about that power. Needless to say it wasn't a good ice breaker, and it definitely wasn't a good way to get laid. He chuckled a little, "I have to admit, this is a deeper conversation than I was expecting tonight, suppose it's not bad though."

"Oh, my, god, that is.....I don't know what to say...." she said, her head now looking down while both her hands were wrapped around the beer mug. "It just sounds like such an amazing ability, I feel so happy for you, while it may seem like such a sad thing, sadness and happiness are just the same things, seen from a different perspective, wouldn't you say?" now looking straight at him, she was smiling at him, yet the tears were slowly streaming down her cheeks.

"Curses and gifts are no different, a curse can be used as a gift and a gift as a curse, people can have different perspectives on a single thing, some see it as a gift and some as a curse, but what should matter is what perspective YOU want to see it from," grabbing a tissue from the middle of the table and wiping her eyes.

"To me, being able to see somebody's time left....is far from a curse, in fact, it's something I wish I had as a child. My mother died when I was about 6-7 years old, if I had been able to see how sicker she was getting every day she had that smile on, I would have...spent so much more time with her, talk with her, play with her, laugh and cry, or simply just look at her smile, life is such a fleeting yet precious thing, to be able to see when one of your loved ones is close to having to say goodbye, that is a precious wake up call about what truly matters, and that is continuing to have happy and sad moments, feel pain and pleasure, spending your life with no regrets."

Speechless, he was speechless for a moment, "I..I never thought about it like that," seeing so much death, being a personification of death, it had all left it's mark on him, scars that affected him grearly. "There's always a silver lining, that what my dad used to say," he chuckled a little, "he always tried to see the bride side of things, focus on the positive despite how stressful his work could be....or maybe that's why he did it." He took a breath and another drink, remembering his family, "weird isn't it? Realizing things years later." God's he missed them, and immortality meant he'd never see them again.

He tilted his head at her, his hand brushing over her, this girl was bringing emotions out of him, after he'd been numb for so long. He'd been hoping for a one night stand, and he still wouldn't mind one, but perhaps he'd maybe found something more. "You're right, if one could see death coming we'd probably do a lot of things different before," he would have tried to be a better son, not that'd he'd been a bad one, but he'd definitely made mistakes.

"I've had my abilities for around three years now, suppose this conversation means I'm pretty thick headed," he grinned a little with a chuckle to go with it. "But what about you?" he took a sip of his beer, "that palm reading seems useful, how long have you been able to do it?" He'd told a bit of his story, it was her turn, he had a feeling they'd be going back and forth for a while, and he was perfectly ok with that.
