Life had been going by quickly and quietly for Anna. She'd been focusing hard on her studies and her work, which had given her little time to try and process what had happened with James. He'd taken her first kiss, and she had mixed feelings about it. She wasn't sure what to do. She hadn't been wearing her bracelet much, which meant that most of the time they were both grey, inactive...she didn't want him to worry about her. Some days she just forgot about it altogether.

With no additional school work to do, and no desire for extra studies, Anna found herself in the school's large, empty ballroom, sitting at the grand piano and letting her fingers drift over the keys. This was her safe place, where she could find solace in the music that she pulled from the instrument. The notes and chords wrapped around her like a warm blanket, comforting her while she played a compilation of classical pieces, stringing one into the other effortlessly. She had finally put her bracelet back on today...and its partner was likely glowing a peaceful blue, matching her calm mood.

He was fae, a fae changeling the school said. It explained his new abilities, his slightly altering appearance, he wasn't human, not really anyways. Only Nyota knew fir now, they'd said to take things slow, he hadn't been the first changeling they'd seen. So much had happened besides that, things with Marie had ended, that whole relationship had left him feeling hollow. He missed Anna, a lot, his bracelet had been gray most days, even on days when he wore it, today he did wear it, and it was blue.

Blue, he knew what it meant, how she was feeling and where she likely could be found. The ballroom, the piano, he knew she loved it there, that it was her sanctuary, so he went there as soon as he could. Moving through the school quietly, passing by the empty rooms and other students, his gray eyes occasionally shifting to silver.

Then he came to it, he could already hear her music, the beautiful notes floating through the air, he'd missed it. Taking a breath, he opened the door and quietly slipped him. He didn't say anything at first, after all he didn't want to interrupt. As he stood by quietly listening, a small smile appeared on his face, something that he hadn't done in a while.

She'd been so focused in on her music that she hadn't noticed him at first. She'd closed her eyes for several moments while her fingers danced with their usual grace and dexterity across the black and white keys. It took a bit for her to realize that someone was watching her and she looked up, her hands pausing for a moment while her heart skipped a beat. She stared at him for a second before slowly rolling back into the piece she was playing.

"Hey," she told him after a moment, unable to take her eyes away from him. She could see his bracelet flash between blue and purple and swallowed. She'd had a lot of time to think about things. Her reaction to his presence only confirmed her suspected feelings towards the boy who'd been her first friend since she'd come to this place...

"Hey," he returned her response, he didn't notice his bracelet flashing blue and purple, he did notice Anna's flashing those same colors though. James had always been confused by his emotions, they often seemed unstable, even around her. The difference being, that it felt right to be around her, the confusion was there, but it almost didn't seem to matter.

Stepping over to her, he tapped his fingers on the piano, his gray eyes looking back to her. "I know how much you like it here, the quiet where you can play." He chuckled a little, "I love your music, it's always beautiful and calming, sorta makes the world fade away."

He took a breath, "I'm sorry about everything," sadness appeared in his eyes, "I....I really screwed up a lot of things. I'm sorry Anna." She meant so much to him, and he couldn't help but put all the blame on himself.

She smiled a little in response to his first set of words. He kind of had the same effect on her that her music had on him, making the rest of the world fade away...Anna had always enjoyed her time with James. He was a relaxing person to be around. Time sort of slipped away from her when he was around. They'd spent countless days together, hanging out around the museum or around town or just around campus. She'd missed him terribly. She was honestly glad to see him in this moment.

At his apology, she looked at him. His eyes were like a cloudy day, both in color and mood. Her smile dropped away and she gave him a chiding look, tilting her head a little at him. "It's okay," she told him as she pulled her hands from the piano keys. "I'm not going to pretend that I know what you're going through, because I don't, but...part of being friends is knowing how to forgive each other."

She rose from the piano bench and stepped around the instrument to put her arms around his neck, standing on her toes to do so as she set her chin on his shoulder and hugged him tight. "There's nothing you could do that you could not get my forgiveness for," she murmured to him in gentle tones. "Even if you did take my first kiss." She pulled away from him and gave him a teasing sort of look. With time, she'd found that she was actually sort of delighted that it had been him.

James hugged her back, his arms wrapping around her, "thank you, I doubt I deserve it," he said with a small sigh. Hus face flushed as she teased him about the kiss, "y-yeah sorry about that," he'd enjoyed the kiss, but his emotions were so confused, leaving him uncertain of many things, leaving him always doubting himself anymore.

"I'm a mess," he admitted to her, or perhaps more to himself, it was obvious to anyone who knew him, "been just wandering around....trying to sort things out." Many things needed sorting out, what happened with Mari, how things with her ended, and how he felt for Anna.

"I feel like I screw everything up," guilt, his issues always seem to bring up guilt even when it wasn't his fault. "Just feels like...I dont know, everything swirling, can't sort through it all," he took a breath, he'd burried his issues for so long, he was starting to realize that he needed help.

She didn't know what to say, or how to respond. Anna wanted to help James. She wanted to get everything sorted out between them, because they both were...confused. At times like this, Anna always turned to her music. She felt the siren's song stirring inside of her as she stood there listening to him until it was ready to burst out of her.

There was a silence between them for a moment as she looked at him, obviously struggling to come up with something to say. Instead, it came in song, like the feelings she'd been holding inside of her were too much to express just by words alone.

Wise men say, 'only fools rush in',
But I can't help falling in love with you.

Her music filled the space between them and wrapped around their bodies like a warm blanket. Steady, strong, safe...and sure. The magic in the tune that sprung from her lips was stronger than it had ever been before. It called to him, for it was meant for him alone.

Shall I stay? Would it be a sin?
For I can't help falling in love with you.

She looked down at the bracelet on his wrist, now glowing a deep purple, responding to her love for her dear friend...she didn't want him to just be her friend anymore. She wanted him to be hers.

Like the river flows surely to the sea,
Darling so it goes...some things are meant to be.

Take my hand,

Reaching out, she picked up his hand and laced her fingers with his.

Take my whole life, too.
For I can't help falling in love with you.

Anna found herself kissing James before she even realized it. She'd stepped closer and touched her lips to his...pulling back for a moment, she searched his eyes, wondering what he would do now. It was his move.

He always loved her music, it was what originally drew him to her. This song though, it was different, it was for him, he could feel the pull of the magic as always, but there was something more. His bracelet was glowing purple and so was hers, despite how unstable his emotions tended to be, despite how confused his emotions made him, how much he cared about her was always a constant.

Then, as song finished, she did something that surprised him, she kissed him. James found himself kissing back, then it ended as Anna stepped back. It took a moment for him to find the proper words to say, and how to properly say them. "I want to be with you," he was admitting something he'd been slowly realizing for a while now, a few of the pieces of his broken emotions were coming together, "you're...gods you deserve better."

Taking a breath, he stepped closer and placed his hands on her shoulders, "I'm a mess, have been for a while, still a lot of things I need to sort through and figure out, but I know that I can't do it alone." He wrapped his arms around her in a gentle embrace, "I've found some things out, about where I came from, I'm not human like I thought."

Pulling back a little, his ears became pointed, his eyes turned silver, "turns our I'm Fae, a changeling, school says a bit of the natural magic is coming back." He had a lot going on between his issues and this news, so much happening. "So going forward I'm going to try and get better, piece things together," he took her hands in his, "and being with you, it'll probably be the first good decision I've made in a long time."

Her heart felt so full that it may have burst when he put his arms around her. She smiled at him as he took her hands in his, gently squeezing his fingers with her own. "You've been my best friend since we met," she told him. "I...want you to be happy, always." Her best friend was back, and what's more, he was hers now.

"I didn't understand for a long time why I couldn't stand seeing you with Mari. It made my skin crawl. Now I know why," she admitted after a moment, glancing away sheepishly. She'd been jealous, seeing James with another girl when it should have been herself instead. "I love you. I've loved you for a while now." She'd never felt like this for another person before in her life. It was like there was this void in her that she hadn't known about was being filled.

Mari, she'd caused so much damage in so little time. Just thinking about her made his stomach twist, she'd used him, manipulated him, James was starting to slowly realize it.

There was a time when he thought he'd receive love, or have the chance to reciprocate it. In truth it wasn't all that long ago when he was expecting to die on the streets eventually, but he'd made it this far, he wasn't going to turn back now. "I love you," he'd never said those words before, but he one hundred percent meant them.

Leaning down, he gently kissed her, his hands squeezing hers, she was his and he was hers. "Thank you," he whispered to her as the kiss ended, he had a long road ahead, a new relationship wasn't going to fix all his issues, but she'd be a point of much needed light, in what had been a hard life.
