Salal had truly grown to appreciate the forest and nature on this island. It reminded her of her home forest back in Canada, although this place didn't have as many pines that seemed to reach the very clouds. Salal missed her pines. You could almost say Salal was pining for her pines, or at least that was what Tyler would've said and Salal would've laughed out of pity. He had truly loved puns.
Salal sighed quietly from her spot under a rather large oak. She hadn't had time to ask any of the people in charge if they could try and find out what had happened to her friend, and now Salal was stuck wondering if Tyler was okay. He wouldn't have just betrayed his promise to Salal, so something must've happened. Salal simply wished it wasn't anything too bad...
But Salal couldn't do anything about it right now. Right now she could simply try and make the best of her new life. Salal opens her textbook and squints at the symbols on the pages. She is currently learning how to read and to try and catch up Salal always practiced during her free time. Tyler had only taught Salal how to speak and even that she did pretty badly. Her mouth just didn't bend the way humans' did.
"A...A cat...runs..."
Salal slowly repeated from her book, her voice tense from concentration, which in turn worsened her pronunciation. This was going to be a long road...
