CENTER]Bartholomew Woodman† [/CENTER]
Initial Report
Upon initial investigations, the subject appears to be a human male of Caucasian descent, though subsequent investigations have called his species into question. If collected records are accurate, he was born on the first of May‡ in a home birth in an undisclosed location twenty-five years ago. After spending many years as a vagrant confidence man and self-described 'monster hunter,' the subject has relocated to the island of Manta Carlos. There, he has taken a role as a teacher at Starlight Academy. His classes, which are open to any student in high school or college, appear to focus on inter-species relations, avoiding and evading those of his former profession, and blending into human society.
Physical Description
Preliminary physical analysis marks the subject as a typical adult human male of Caucasian descent, with a high melanin percentage in much of his skin due to prolonged exposure to sunlight. When standing straight, he is 5’6½“ tall with a shoulder width of 17¼”. His build and physique suggests a high degree of physical activity and training in both cardiovascular and weight lifting exercises. The subject’s hair is naturally black and is kept cropped very short. He keeps a short beard and mustache that connects to his sideburns. At the insistence of his spouse, he keeps his eyebrows plucked and shaped. His eyes are hetero-chromatic, the left one being hazel and the right one being hazel with green speckling.
The subject has a number of physical traits that qualify as distinguishing markings. First, his nose, which would be considered Grecian in shape, is asymmetrical, suggesting multiple fractures of the bone surrounding it. Likewise, his left eyebrow sports a pair of parallel scars that run from just above the eye to his hair line. Several other scars dominate portions of his body, most being lacerations of puncture wounds. Several of the puncture wound scars are located on the subject’s shoulders, forearms, and calves and have even spacing consistent with bite wounds. Most wounds appear to have been stitched by a non-medical professional, likely the subject himself, or else left to heal on their own. Other notable scars include several along the subject’s ribcage, indicating either claw markings or knife wounds. It is difficult to tell which, given the overlap of many of them.
The subject’s wardrobe appears varied and typical, containing clothing items that would allow him to fit well into most social situations. The only constant adornment that the subject wears is a silver band worn around the fourth finger of his left hand.
The subject’s demeanor and mannerisms give an impression of immense self-confidence and positivity, while the relative speed with which he walks and performs tasks indicates a level of single-mindedness. The subject does however often utilize filler words and speaks relatively slowly, as if carefully considering each word before it is said.
Psychological Profile
The subject appears self-motivated and self-confident, adapts quickly to new information, and does not show any signs of psychosis or neurosis. He does appear to be more reserved around non-human entities other than his spouse, but this appears to be out of a genuine sense of remorse for past actions rather than a fear of the individuals themselves. The subject is open to new experiences and shows sociable, extroverted personality traits. Deeper psychological analysis has been denied as per closing of this case file.
Unusual Abilities
Despite the subject’s apparent human physiology, he does possess one preternatural ability. The subject’s mind gives off a particular psychic pattern that allows him to perceive preternatural entities as being non-human, rather than what they present to others. This allows him to detect even hidden non-human entities. Likewise, this ability offers a level of protection against the mind-altering effects of such entities, though tests to see just how powerful of an entity he can resist have not been conducted. It has been suggested that an entity such as Gabriel Baltimore [see file: Mikhainon] could bypass this psychic barrier, though this is just speculation.
Biographical Interview
What follows is a recovery of part of the transcripts of interviews with the subject, dealing with his personal history. The original recordings have been lost.
† This investigation has been closed, as per agreements with Cordelia M. Moor.
‡ This date coincides with the celebration of Walpurgisnacht, which this reporter believes should be further investigated given the missing information on the subject’s parentage.

S: A monster hunter. She tracked down things that aren’t human. And she… well… you know…
I: She took their lives?
S: Yeah…
I: And how did you feel about that, Mr. Woodman?
S: Well… as a kid… I, uh, I thought she was so fuckin’ cool. Like, who else’s mom fought vampires and stuff like that?
I: What brought your mother into this lifestyle?
S: Oh. That. Well, She never really told me. Said it was, uh, just the family business.
I: Other members of your family were monster hunters?
S: Well… uh, I mean, I guess. I never met any of them. It was always just me and… and mom.
I: Your mother, is she still living?
S: You know she isn’t…
I: Deceased, then. How long ago was this?
S: I was… sixteen, I think. Yeah, I had just turned sixteen.
I: Where did you live after that?
S: In the, um, in the RV.
I: You lived alone? You drove the recreational vehicle?
S: Yeah.
Subject: Do I have to look into the camera? Or do I look at you?

Interviewer: So tell me about this creature you were hunting.
Subject: Well, I didn’t know exactly what she was. Some kind of, ah, siren or nymph or something.
I: And what led you to this conclusion?
S: Well, having… dealt with them, um, before.
I: And you tracked her to where?
S: It was a small fishing town, just outside of [REDACTED].
I: And what was she doing? This siren?
S: Well… um, far as I could tell… she was singing at a, ah, a local tavern.
I: And you believed she had some sinister motive for doing so?
S: Well… at the time, ya know… yeah, pretty much.
I: And what did you do?
S: I, um, I confronted her after her show one night. Told her I knew what she was.
I: And how did she respond?
S: She, um… well she kissed me on the cheek and said that she hoped I enjoyed her singing.
I: And then?
S: And then she ran away, laughing at the dumb look I had on my face.
I: What happened next?
S: I spent… pfft, weeks trying to pin down what she was and, um, how to beat her.
S: It was awful. Every time I thought I was close… she, ah, she somehow outsmarted me.
I: You were growing frustrated? Would you say that this particular hunt became rather personal for you?
S: Oh yeah, most definitely. It was like it was a game to her. She, um… she even invited me out to dinner several times. I always had my guard up, ready to take her down if she… if she tried anything.
I: But she never did?
S: NO! And I couldn’t get a damn read on her or what she was.
I: But you eventually discovered it, yes?
S: Yeah… a selkie. Fuckin’ Irish seal shape shifter. I figured out that if I, um, got her skin, I’d have her right where I wanted her.
I: And you found the skin?
S: Yeah, broke into her… um, her house. While she was at the tavern.
I: How did she respond when you presented this information to her?
S: She just goddamn laughed. Said, um, that we were married now.
I: Had you not heard of that custom?
S: I mean… I had. But, um, I thought it was just embellishments. You know? Romanticizing of it.
I: But it wasn’t.
S: Apparently not...

Interviewer: So after the selkie became your ‘wife,’ how did you react to that?
Subject: Well, at first I thought about, um, just killing her. Like, just right then and there.
I: But you didn’t.
S: No. I… um, I wanted to get back at her for, ah, humiliating me all those months. I moved into her house, made her stay inside and clean and cook and stuff. Was just, uh, a total asshole.
I: And how did she respond to all of this?
S: She just went on with it like it was… like it was the most natural thing in the world.
I: Did the two of you ever engage in sexual activity?
S: No. Um, at the time... I wouldn't have... you know, even considered it.
I: How long did this go on for?
S: A couple of months, I think? Then…
I: Then?
S: I dunno. We, um… started talking. Like, actually talking.
I: And you began to see her as a person, rather than a monster.
S: Ah… more or less, I guess.
I: How long was it before you began to have romantic feelings for her?
S: I’d say… ah… six months into living together? She was just so warm and happy, it was… infectious.
I: Did you ever return her seal skin to her?
S: Yeah. The day I, um, confessed that I had fallen in love with her. I knew I couldn’t… I couldn’t keep her prisoner like that.
I: What was her response?
S: Well… she, um… she dragged me to the bedroom.
I: And?
S: You know very well ‘and’ what. We got, ah, married not long after that.
I: Moving on. You stated before that the two of you are moving to Manta Carlos. How did you hear about the island?
S: Ah… she told me about it. I figured… it’d be a good place for the both of us. Give us… um, a chance to start over and not have to live in fear.
I: Fear? From the other monster hunters?
S: Yeah. I don’t know… what I’d do if they took her from me.
Subject: Well, at first I thought about, um, just killing her. Like, just right then and there.
