Valentine admitted to himself that he wasn't perfect. He made wrong calculations at a few times in the past, yes. He couldn't deny any of the times he's had lapses in judgement at other opportunities. Tonight's incident though: he would love to associate to bad luck and simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Or was it supposed to be 'wrong place at the right time'?

Regardless, there were some amount of regret about sneaking out this evening. Valentine had run into the wrong crowd ad a very bad time. The result was a curious stab wound on his stomach. Normally, his healing would have saved him the trouble of having to deal with a knife wound of all things, but whatever that was, it had been enchanted. It wasn't anything that would have probably killed him, but it sure did sting. The only thing he could be thankful for was that it probably didn't hit any vital organs.

The other thing was thankful for, he was near enough to the address Rin had given him.

Valentine stood next the door to his apartment, barely just enough to stand on his own feet. Did he lose a lot of blood? He wouldn't know. He tried to stop the bleeding with applying some pressure but whether it was from the pain or his general tendency to make mistakes, he wasn't sure if he was doing it right.

A quiet knock would have disturbed Rin for whatever they we doing, along with Valentine speaking meekly. "Rin? You there? We-- I might have a problem."

It was probably a stroke of luck that Rin was actually home that night. Sometimes they took a walk around the city just to keep their head clear, stop by somewhere to get a drink or linger outside the apartments as a smoke break. They did not always make the best decision either - their lungs could be damaged by their little habit and kill them if they were down too long as a catfish. But hey. Maybe they could pass as family in that way.

Either way, Rin was still sitting in their apartment, their television blaring with some television show that the medic wasn't even paying attention to. They were too lost in their own thoughts, their food having grown cold on the table. They were jolted back into the present by the knocking.

Hurrying to the door when they heard Valentines voice, they opened it up carefully. They were alarmed to see the blood staining the hand that kept his blood from straying too far. "Jesus fuck." Grumbled the medic, ushering him inside. "What did you do to get yourself stabbed, Val?" They demanded an answer as they tried to guide him to the touch, rushing off to get the medical kit they kept in the kitchen.

Valentine had to smother a pathetic laugh when he'd heard Rin grumble. Figures they'd have reacted that way, he thought. He expected this, but he didn't really have any other place to go run to. There wasn't a lot of people he trusted enough to deal with him within the near vicinity of where he got stabbed.

Then again, any laugh from him would have been muted down by quiet grunts of pain he was feeling from the wound just by moving around. "Well.... funny story," he began, while the medic had guided him into the room for a seat. "I might have ran into some thug and they probably didn't like kids like me."

Valentine chose to conveniently not mention the part about having thrown offhand comments during the run in. It was supposed to be a robbery at knife point; naturally Valentine didn't actually have anything important with him during late night trips to the city. The thief didn't seem to believe him. "Anyway so, I tried biting the guy but that didn't really work so here I am!"

If the way Valentine was grinning was any indication of regrets, he didn't seem to have any. The demon looked more like a kid who did something wrong but they were awfully proud of. "The knife being enchanted slipped my mind too . Now it's just not healing as fast as it should."

If they had not worked for the Rosales as long as they had, and hadn't learned how to keep their mouth shut - Rin would have told Rin that they weren't particularly fond of people being little shits either. And yet here they were, more than willing to help patch up Valentine despite the series of unfortunate events that brought them both to where they were.

"Uh-huh. And what did the thug want from you, your wallet? Few things are worth your life, Val - and those few things, I'm pretty sure you don't own." They told him as they came back in, holding their supplies. That shit-eatting grin on his face made the medic stop, one arm full of supplies and the other resting on their hip like an angry mother.

"You look awfully proud of yourself for getting stabbed in the abdomen. Maybe I should let you fix this on your own, let your healing catch up. Oh wait." If it wasn't clear by their tone, it was clear by their expression that they were already annoyed with this.

The grin on Valentine's face seemed to falter when the medic came back to view, his expression clearly showing how they weren't going to entertain his humor tonight. A little switch in his head seemed to flip just by the sight of it directed at him. He bit his lip as he dropped his gaze to the floor, almost appearing to curl back into himself rather than looking back to see their expression.

"I told him I didn't have anything -- and I really don't," he said, almost grumbling. He looked agitated, scratching at his arm, as he continued. "Then he pissed me off so I got snippy."

Compared to earlier, Valentine seemed to simply back down, hands folded in to cover his wound. The demon failed to make any eye contact with Rin, and he looked to almost just sinking into his seat while under his gaze. His expression appeared rueful, while he picked on the hem of his bloodied shirt.

"I panicked when I found out the knife was enchanted so I bit him. I didn't know he could still reach me after I did, okay?" he continued, his voice rose a little at the end but he quickly caught himself, backing down into his bubble.

Very rarely did Rin actually refuse to give treatment. This was more of mental punishment to whoever did something stupid and got themselves in a dangerous situation that didn't need to be there.

They moved over to where he sat, kneeling on the ground and nudging his hand away from his arm. "Okay. Don't scratch yourself." They told him with a much softer voice. While they were still annoyed, his tone showed he was genuinely apologetic even if he didn't actually apologize. "You've done well with holding the pressure and coming here. Defending yourself like that wasn't half bad either."

They nudged at his hand covering his wound, signalling they needed to see it. They dug into their supplies and brought out what they needed. Depending on the wound.. They pulled out some thread and a needle, but also some medical tape in case it was small enough. "You can sleep here tonight, I'm going to check your wound in the morning."

Valentine did as told, moving his hand away from the other, instead turning the restless scratching at the fibers of the couch. The softness of Rin's voice eased of a little of the building nervousness in him, but it didn't completely keept it away. He let out a simple low hum in response, not being able to find any other way to reply to their comment.

He was cooperative at the very least, following their instruction when he was asked to move his hand from his would, but was almost needlesly silent. Valentine only hissed when when he moved his hand away from the stab wound. Without the knife there wasn't anything to actually stop the bleeding at all. It hadn't gone too deep thankfully, but the angle it had struck him left it large enough to need some stitching.

"I-Is it bad though?" he asked, finding it in him to finally speak up again. He hadn't really seen the wound for himself. For all he knew, he could be overreacting, or completely numb to how bad it actually was.

That was probably for the best.

Rin worked on the wound, cleaning it very carefully. The alcohol would sting against the wound, and they knew it. But it was necessary to keep it clean before they stitched it up. They worked in almsot complete silence - the television only flickered with some forgotten program as they did so.

If Val cared to look around, they could take a peek into Rin's 'private' life... as boring as it was. They had little on their walls - the occasional picture that dated back years with the quality of the photograph and some of the settings. But still, they decorated their apartment with fairly plain furniture all around. All of it was kept to a fairly muted palette, with few places for company given they had little. But it was all very clean.

"It's... not good. I'm going to have to stitch you up, which is going to hurt. I've got some pain medication you can take so that you don't have to be entirely in pain afterwards." They explained, knowing there was little way to describe it any softer.

Valentine wasn't always getting stabbed by enchanted weapons so by no means were they use to wounds getting cleaned or treated. Having the wound cleaned stung like heck, the demon hissing whenever the alcohol would make contact with the wrong part of the wound, trying to keep quiet despite the fact it really did hurt.

His only distraction was starting into the near blank walls of the house but even that didn't quite help much but serve as anything else to put his attention. As the medic explained to him what was to be done, Valentine followed with a long groan. The thought of having been stabbed hurting any more that it should didn't thrill him at all but if it had to be done, it had to. By the time this was done, Valentine would have learned how to hate weapons enchanted to disrupt healing abilities and medical stitching.

"I think... I'll take up the medication offer," Valentine stated, his tone evidently appearing to be calm. He wasn't going to have a very fun time with this, he thought. Valentine would be driven to tears with how many times he needles would have to pierce his skin, hissing quietly through the whole process of stitching up the wound.

"Okay, I'll get it to you." Rin nodded, biting their lip. They tried to do the stitching as effectively as possible but as quickly as possible. It hurt and they knew it, they had had stitches several times in their lives. But it would always hurt like a son of a.. Rin shook the thoughts away.

They tied it off, gently cleaning the wound again and making sure to give it some temporary coverage for now. "We're done. Be careful moving around from here on until it's completely healed. I would venture to guess four weeks or more at a standard human rate."

"Lay down, okay? Get some rest." They cleaned off their hands and stood up. "I'll get you the meds and everything. Do you want something to eat now?"
