It had been almost a week since the last night of the tree lighting. Almost a week since she had drank from Phaedra, the girl everyone talked about. She didn't know why she had done it. It had just happened. She had been so thirsty, and then... on cloud nine. Holy hell her heart had swelled whenever she looked at the spider girl. Thought about her laugh or her scent.
And then an hour after, it all came crashing down. Alma had only ever been so depressed when she found out that she was half lust demon. Her heart was heavy. None of it had been real, but it felt real. So real. She had barely eaten in the past week, and barely drank enough blood to keep her alive. She wanted to cry but she had no more tears left. Why had Phaedra ignored her? Gone off with her boyfriend like she didn't even exist.
Iggy had been supportive, but there was no filling that void that Phaedra had left in her heart. Each day was a little better, but she couldn't help but feel like it would never go away. And everywhere around her, she could smell the same blood as Phaedra. Children of Asmodeus. In fact... she smelled one right now. It gave her a queasy combination of joy and anger.
Leaping down from her hiding spot on the roof, Alma glided towards the ground. She could barely fly right now, so being in the air was dangerous. But that weird sense of urging she had been feeling lately caused her to throw caution to the wind. She had to find out where that scent was coming from. Her eyes scanned the courtyard, looking for the source.
Ah, there he was.
