Whisk into the night with the full moon flaunting its cool light. The wind was subtle, not a leaf shimmered or rustled. No ringlets or ripples disturbed the waters, at least not until excited feet trampled through the mossy grass and hardened sands!

Where night was once tranquil and transparent, its atmosphere burgeoned with passion and life! Ah! a girl shrieked as Autumn’s chill nipped at her barren limbs. It’s cold! In the meantime, boys and girls worked together to set up a fire. Some gathered wood and another would ignite it with his power. Embers shimmered – practically growling – as smoke danced to the starry sky.

It was a signal that the party had started.

About twenty minutes after its start, an achromatic youth – void of much colour – ducked his way through a maze of twigs and branches and logs and rocks till he, too, found his way out by the loch. By this time, there a few who were sitting around the fire atop of strategically placed logs whilst others splashed and giggled and flirted within the lake’s embrace. At first this one was wary, but the glinting bottles in his peers’ hands suggested that there may be nothing to worry… So he sat next to another boy who was practically contrast: smooth black hair that reflected both the warmth of the fire and the chill of nighttime.

At first there was nothing to say. This one simply rested his elbows atop his knees whilst twiddling his thumbs and staring at the flickering fire. At last, his voice murmured a casual greeting: “I didn’t expect you to be here.” After all, water was near.

Shinji sat by as the party went on. the stars in the night lit up the sky in a spectacular greeting that met the horizon line and almost made the ivory moon jealous. He watched the smoke rise higher and higher while hearing the splashes of water behind him and the cheers of his fellow students out in his forward direction. The sounds, every one of them from bottles clanging against one another to the yelling students, bounced from tree to tree that stood outside the lake's elegant area. Everyone displayed their powers in one way or another but not Shinji, not this time.

Within a decent amount of time, Shinji had nothing much to do since he barely knew anyone at the school. He was new of course and had met a few people but at the same time, he had so many others to meet. Though this was true, Shinji had no real desire to talk to any of those that were loud and obnoxiously playing around. Soon enough, though, another student had came to him without Shinji even really noticing until he spoke. Listening to him and slowly turning his head, Shinji returned the favor by replying. "I thought I would check it out. Can't be too antisocial, can I?" Shinji turned back to look at the fire just after saying such a thing. He wasn't nervous to talk, just a little down that he wasn't having too much fun nor was there much to do at the moment.

“You’re that kid who’s like an electric eel, right?” Rumours – they were everywhere about practically everyone. One didn’t even have to open his ears to hear all the squawking girls and boys buzz about in the hallways or mess hall, especially about “the new guy” or “the new girl.” As a tired breath escaped his gaping mouth, this one continued: “you know you can go into the water? So long as I’m around, you won’t be able to electrocute anyone – not even yourself. You and everyone else won’t be able to use their powers no matter hard you or they concentrate… not that they can in their states anyway.

“Why not give it a try? You look like shit just sitting here. I’ll even go in with ya.”

"I didn't realize that it was so apparent who I was, not to mention what my power was. That's rather odd to me. he explained as he looked at the other student who, in fact, he had never seen before in his life. Shinji continued to listen to what the student had to say. His explanation of his own power was extremely different. Shinji was surprised to hear of someone that could really nullify another person's abilities. Shinji thought for a moment before he could respond to such an offer. For all he knew, this kid could be setting him up for failure.

"I don't really know about that..." Shinji started to say as he gazed at the fire. He ringed his hands together in thought and continued not too much later. "I don't know if I can really believe that right now sine I don't really even know you. Maybe I should give this a test try and see if I really can't use my powers?" Shinji suggested as he talked to the student. The reason he mentioned this idea to him now is because usually when someone is lying and they can be proven guilty, their whole demeanor changes and they seem to get a little nervous or they back off. It was Shinji's plan to see if this kids nonchalant attitude pays off. Shinji wasn't just going to jump into the water unknowingly.

“Information,” a droll smile began to coo, “is everything… You could say I’ve been keeping my eye out on you... At least, for a little while. Till you lost my interest.” As that wry grin of his cracked and burgeoned – bearing all teeth whilst eyes remained unmoved, this one shifted within his ‘seat.’ Leaning back with his head lolling betwixt a pair of hunching shoulders. For a moment (as his sober companion continued to speak), bland eyes captured the sky’s scape. Like him – in a world full of colour and contrast, the stairs and moon remained achromatic with subtle hues.

He was nearly lost in thought…

…Until the other’s speculation recaptured his capricious attention: “Why bother verbalising when you could just try it? Go on, Electric Eel: do it.” Meanwhile, this salt-white lad sat back up with his eyes blandly scanning the other, waiting expectantly.

Shinji looked at the boy in the weirdest of ways. His eyes were wide open yet he could barely see without the everlasting flames of the fire. His eyebrows, tweaked to the side, now stood high above his eyelids without moving. There seemed to be something off about this guy, but what? Shinji didn't really have a life time to really try and figure it out especially since it was night. He sat for minutes after the boy almost provoked him to attempt to use his powers. He sat in thought of what he could really do, what was the other student going to do. So many questions, but not enough time nor energy to even try and answer each one.

"Give me a sec." Shinji said reluctantly as the student seemed to stare at him. Holding out his palm ever so calmly, he begins to think and concentrate hard on being able to form the electricity. One spark, one mere spark came from his palm, nothing more. After which he tried again, and again once more. Nothing at all. It was ridiculous to see that he was unable to use his powers. "Now then, I see you pose no bluff about your abilities. But that wont convince me to just get into the water, not really my thing, regardless." Shinji stated. He began to think of what the student decided to brand him as, an eel. It was an extremely inaccurate thing to call him since eels can only survive in water, whereas Shinji hates water in its purist of forms. Sure they both had that 'electric' personality but it was still both irrelevant and a nuisance.

Interesting, that one little spark was interesting. As a brow lowered from its quizzical and (dare say) astonished perch, this fellow averted his gaze from the other to stare off into the enigmatic distance. ‘He has great potential but he’s not willing to take risks’- he thought to himself-‘What a shame. Power is nothing without risk. Potential is greatly hindered.’

“Fine,” he finalised. “I understand. You’re not an eel after all, you’re just... an outlet.

“So, Outlet,”–he shifted–“what’s your name? I’m Makoto but most call me by my surname: ‘Inoue.’”

"My name is Shinji, and if you don't mind, I would rather you didn't call me names that don't belong to me." He said in a slightly snappy tone. He wasn't very fond of someone calling him out of his name but even so, he was unable to use his powers and he has yet to learn martial arts. Given that Makoto doesn't have a real use for his powers in direct combat, he may be good at fighting in other ways. Who knows, maybe he can't defend himself at all. But either way it didn't matter, Shinji wasn't planning to get into a fight anyhow since he wasn't feeling up to it, and not to mention he would be a great disadvantage.

A scoff and a snort erupted from Makoto’s inflating chest. His grin – once wry – had not softened to a mild smirk. “Well, now that I know your name… That shouldn’t be a problem.” In the meantime, this one launched himself into contrapposto. First he lingered (mesmerised by the now weakened flames) and then he turned – back to the fire whilst another splashed booze to make it erupt.

Hiccups soon growled in the background: “someone go get more wood! It needs s’more wood!” To which Makoto looked at the ground in thought. He continued:

“Why don’t you and I get some tinder? I wouldn’t mind getting to know you better.” Upon this suggestion, a pallid palm reached out to Shinji.
