Awkward Birthday Party

Hazel hummed to herself, setting up the last of the decorations. It wasn't anything too fancy, just a few balloons and some streamers and whatnot. It was looking pretty good though, so she was satisfied. At least, she was certain that Seven would like it.

However, that wasn't exactly her concern for this. She wanted to keep it small, specifically to family. However, she hasn't exactly told Lorencia or Haru about her adopting Seven. Hell, she didn't remember if Lorry or Haru even met yet. This was also a way to get everyone to meet up. She felt bad for doing this to Seven, but it was gonna happen at the first place. Although she did mention that they should get a birthday gift for a 10 year old boy, so that might be a hint.

Whatever, now wasn't the time to think about that, she smoothed her skirt out, going to the kitchen to check on the food. Afterword she walked back to the living room, looking toward the hallway. "Seven, dear! It's almost time, if you aren't dressed now's the time to do it!" Afterword, she sat at the table, waiting for the guest to come by.

Seven

Seven woke up in his bed, the sun streaming onto his face. He was in his room. His first month or so on the island was quite eventful. He had come to to the island beaten, tired, and alone for the most part. That being said he now saw the disparity from which he originated to his life now. Within a couple months he went from having a family, to losing his family, to apparently gaining a family member. If he were to be completely honest with himself he was not at all sure how to approach the kindness that Hazel showed him. His adoption was not only a seemingly large gift from above, but it was just in time for him to have a family on his birthday.

He wasn't expecting anything big, in fact he was grateful if he had gotten any acknowledgement of his birthday at all, well, that and a name. He then slid out of bed and looked at himself in a small mirror he had in his room and flexed his arm a little in the mirror in an attempt to show himself a bit of growth. His arm, as always, was well defined and well muscled for someone for his age due to the fact that he dragged his hammer everywhere around with him and used it quite a bit.

He slept without a shirt on and when he heard Hazel ask him to get dressed, he quickly opened one of his drawers and threw on a black t-shirt and white shorts. His hair was quite messed up, but he didn't care. He then dragged his 4 foot hammer out of the bed, it landed on the ground with a thud.

He then opened his door and walked into the rest of the house. He was amazed by the decorations. They weren't anything too complicated, yet that made him feel more at home in this new house. He walked over to Hazel after hefting his hammer over his shoulder. He then hurriedly took his seat next across from hazel while smiling.

A gift... gift... What would a 10-year old like? That was the question Lorencia had buzzing in her mind. Back in the void, wands that sparkle and fire off harmless spells was the best thing. It helped trained magic, or at least that's how they felt when she had one. Would it still work though? That was an interesting question. Oh, hold on, she was buying for a boy, wasn't she? In that case, she had the perfect alternative! Boys liked swords, guns, cars, motorcycles, but unlike most of the ones she immediately thought of, swords were the easier ones to get a hold of. And it were safer too. Because she didn't know how make it properly, she just winged it. She made a slim sword from rolls of aluminum foil she reshaped in her realm around a wooden skeleton. The end product looked like a genuine sword, or at least a replica. It wasn't sharp at all, but it was weighty enough to make it feel kind of like the real thing. She then infused it with some focusing crystals from home, had them line the length of the sword and made some patterns that she thought looked cool. The crystals had the same color as obsidian, but if it ever shattered it wouldn't have made any sharp edges. So what made this special? Aside from the care put into it (care used loosely), because of the focusing crystal, it allowed Lorencia to funnel her magic into it without negatively affecting the sword itself. It sounded dangerous. What if the boy she was giving it to had magic powers of his own? Well, she did keep in mind that this was going to be a toy, or a fancy prop to show off, so she only used the low-grade crystals in forging it. She was worried however if the crystals wouldn't work at all. So she added a little something in it, so at the very least, when someone holds it, it would make this black-ish, purple-ish trail. If someone swung it, it made it look like they were cutting through to another world for a split second. Just some visual thing she thought was neat. With it packed in its own sheath and then wrapped around a silky cloth before being tied together with ribbons, Lorencia opened a portal straight to Hazel's house. "I'm here! And brought the present!" she'd happily announce, hugging the gift.

Why did Hazel need a present for a young child? Was she pregnant? That seemed like a far stretch considering the age but with this island, one could never be too sure. Instead not only did she need a gift she needed to find someone to cover he paper work. Luckily that was just a simple phone call to Calypso. Her friend could cover her work until the week started again. That only left her with the mysterious party.

Her attire wasn't going to be anything special since Hazel hadn't made it sound like a high-class event. She wore a causal t-shirt and shorts. Both were black with her shirt reading "You're already dead" a joke from a video she had seen a while back while on lunch break.

After feeling presentable the rest of her day involved going around her office and asking her employees with children about some toys that any child would like. Most of them seemed generic such as teddy bears, games, sports equipment. All of them sounded nice but Haru guessed that this was special since she received forewarning about it from Hazel. After digging through her old things and desk drawers she found an old knife from her service days. It wasn't anything special and she had several more so parting with it didn't sting at all.

The knife was a switch activated monoblade. It had cut a number of throats and got her out of many sticky situations. It highly sharp and glowing edge could cut through most materials when activated and it was a serious threat to be waving around. For that reason alone she removed its ability to activate and only left the switch function available. Maybe once she had a better stock of the recipient she would return its ability to activate. For now, it was just a cool looking alien knife.

After having it wrapped and placed in a nice box she had her driver take her to Hazels house, being as punctual to the time set as possible with a watch counting down to the party start time. Pulling up in front she stepped out and gave three simple knocks on the door.

Hazel smirked, waving to Seven as he took the seat down at the table. It was great to see him excited for his little party, as it was a rather important day. Not just for him, but for herself as well, but those were for other reasons of course. Much more nerve wracking reasons.

"Sorry it isn't much, but Happy Birthday dear." She wanted to find more of his friends to bring here, but she honestly didn't know who to ask. So, Hazel's acquaintances would hopefully do for this. Which, judging by the time, was going to be rather soon.

And sure enough, a familiar portal opened up with a bubbly voidling. Hazel herself would stand up, walking over with a bit less limp then usually and give her a quick hug. "Glad you can make it. Lorry, this is Seven, Seven, Lorry." That was a rather large present. But she had no clue what could be in there. Probably related to Lorry's heritage.

Hazel would then hurry off, going to a familiar 3 knocks on the door and opening it for Haru, once again giving her a hug. "Hello Haru. Please, come on in." She was smiling and trying to remain as calm as she could, guiding everyone to their table. Oh dear, it was time and everyone was here. "So, take a seat, and please, everyone here give an introduction and a little bit about yourself, as I have a fair bit of explaining to do...." Oh boy, yes she did.

Seven

Seven smiled at Hazel as she had actually apologized for the completely optional party that she had taken the effort to set up. He actually was quite surprised that she would actually have apologized as he saw nothing wrong with a birthday like this. To him this was already a lot to be thankful of and had no compunction to act otherwise. He looked at Hazel and with a smiling face made sure to assert his position.

"Hazel, please do not apologize for a party that you spent time and energy for me! This is amazing! I feel even more at home with this! This is amazing!"

Seven's eyes then snapped to the portal that seemed to appear out of thin air. He saw the activation and was actually quite confused. He acknowledged who had casted it, but to be honest he had no idea where the portal could have led, so when he saw Lorencia step through it he was as intrigued as any now- ten year old would be when in the presence of the unknown. He smiled radiantly at Lorencia, but brought his hammer closer to him. Oddly enough he was quite..... nervous. This was a friend of his adopted parent, he could not afford to mess up. He could not afford to lose someone like Hazel. He hugged the handle like a child would hug a teddy bear as he acknowledged Lorencia after Hazel introduced her.

"Hello Ms. Lorry nice to meet you! I appreciate the fact that you came!"

His eyes drifted to the package and was surprised that she had brought what seemed to be a gift, not that he expected it to be, and sized it up. He looked at the size and his mind went straight to things that it could have been. His mind which had been acquainted with blacksmithing from a very young age actually went to smithing equipment. Tongs maybe? Maybe a smithing hammer of some sort? He was completely clueless other than the fact that it seemed around the size of a longsword.

His eyes turned to the door that was knocked on and as the door was opened he looked at the person on the outside. He saw the lady outside and tilted his head a little, smiling nonetheless. He had no idea how to deal with the person outside, Haru she was called, much like how he was unsure of how to deal with Lorencia. His eyes then drifted from her face to her shirt. He didn't get why it read that he was already dead, but didn't question it as it probably made sense to Haru. He gave an enthusiastic nod to Haru as Hazel brought Haru in.

When everyone was in a relatively decent position he took the initiative to be the first to introduce himself.

"Hello all! I am Seven! As of today I am ten years old! So that you don't guess that I am a dwarf due to the giant hammer, I am actually a soulbound! Nice to meet you all! Thank you for coming and attending! I appreciate it, and the fact that you came already makes me happy!"

Lorencia squeezed Hazel with a hug and danced around slightly. The warmth and scent of her lover made her heart pump just a bit faster. With Hazel running off to get the door after introducing the young lad and Lorencia, the latter took her full attention and put it all on Seven. "Ahh! You must be the birthday boy!" Zooming over to the boy she practically picked him up and spun the both of them a bit, using her magic to keep the hammer he had from falling over if he dropped it. After putting him down, Lorencia stepped back and examined the boy and his hammer. "That's a pretty big hammer! I think I got you the wrong thing then, but I hope you like it all the same!" A little while later, Hazel ushered her, the birthday boy, and another woman to the table. Seven took the first spot at introduction. He was a soulbound? What did that mean? Lorencia would have to ask him or Hazel about that later, but right now, she couldn't detract the introductions. "I'm Lorencia Hel'Sarie! I'm a Void Walker and a Realm Master in training! Glad to meet you!"

Haru took the hug softly, trying her best not to squeeze the young girl to death. It was nice to hug Hazel. Something about it always brought a small smile to her face....well a bigger smile than she usually had to go. Maybe it was the closeness she shared or that Hazel was one of the more level-headed normal people on the island, and considering she went and lost her leg that meant something.

When she stepped into the house she immediately locked her eyes on the small boy moving around, Maybe she was right and through the magic of Manta Carlos, the girl had had herself a kid. That or maybe a relative, who knew? Her mind was curious, to say the least. Then there was this other person who was also a new face.

Haru took a seat after giving some polite nods to everyone. She listened as everyone went around introducing themselves before finally it was her turn. "Well, I'm Haru, a Praxian who moved from Mes to set up a life here. I own a business and used to be the personal maid of Hazel. I like tea......that's about it." She was rather lackluster but it didn't bother her as most grandiose story anywhere else were just another drop in the bucket here.

Hazel waited patiently for everyone to finish there little introductions. Besides Haru, no one else really mentioned why they knew Hazel. Which was fair, and now up to Hazel to help fill in a few gaps. It'd be helpful for them if a few gaps were filled in.

"And, well, all of you know me, so I'll skip my introductions. So anyway, as for other introductions. Lorencia and I are currently dating, coming up to a year in early September. As for Seven, I am his legal guardian and he just moved in earlier this week. Adoption, by the way. So.... Food's almost ready, and I'll get some drinks out soon."

Seven

Seven beamed at those at the table. They seemed to be kind enough from their demeanors, but the fact that he knew who they were didn't actually help him understand how to deal with them. He didn't know much about hat either of the two guests had said. Haru had mentioned that she was a Praxian. While he had heard about them though contact with people at the M3C, he still had no real idea what that meant other than she was from off planet. And Lorencia was a... Void walker? Realm Master? Those two names made no practical sense to him. It actually had a more occult feel to him that it probably should have, but being good at plastering a smile on his face that was what he did.

"Yeah! I will be living with Hazel from now on! Wow, a Praxian and a Void Walker! You both sound so interesting, though I have no idea what either of those words actually mean! I apologize, but I am more than happy to learn!"

He directed a more sincere smile to Hazel and gave her a small and thankful nod before turning his inquisitive eyes to the other two in the house.
