Appearance Description: Avery is white, short and scrawny. Her dark green eyes look a little too big for her face, especially behind the glasses she always wears (and is constantly pushing up higher on her nose when they slip down). Her cheeks are lightly freckled, but they stand out more brightly when she blushes or flushes. Her hair is brown, and she keeps it in a tidy, thick, back-length braid with a small green bow on the end.

Personality Description: Avery is (annoyingly) inquisitive, and stubborn as a mule. She has a good grasp for logic and reasoning, for her age, but has trust issues with other people that prevent her from willingly accepting things other people tell her. She would much rather investigate for herself and come to her own conclusions about things. She is honest and brave, and also doesn't know when to keep her mouth shut or how to keep secrets. She tends to box up her stress and difficulties and try to handle them on her own, but when she finds someone she feels she can really trust she bonds with them very strongly. She has family issues that push her to seek out mother/father figures to provide structure to her life.

Write
When touching an object and thinking very strongly of an image/situation/emotion, Avery will sometimes 'write' those onto the item. Spiritually/mentally sensitive persons who scan or touch that item later will see Avery's thoughts as though they were real memories stored in the object. Powerful/professionally trained sensitives can, however, tell that these memories are fake. The thoughts can be cleansed from the object through normal cleansing ceremonies, of the sort normally used to cleanse haunted houses or objects of lingering spirits.

Project
If Avery focuses very strongly on an image or scene, it can manifest as a visual/audio/olfactory hallucination to both Avery and anyone else nearby. The images/scenes can't interact with the physical world, and simply appear to witnesses as ghostly phenomena. Psychic/spiritual sensitives can detect the link between the phenomena and Avery.

Burn
If Avery focuses very strongly on an image or sound while standing near or touching physical recording media (photographs, audio cassettes, CDs, video tapes, cameras etc.) she can alter the contents of the media to include the images/sounds from her thoughts. This can cause ghostly images to appear in photos, ghostly sounds to appear in audio recordings, and strange phenomena to appear on recorded video. The images/sounds can be exorcised from the media using normal cleansing rituals, as one would do with a haunted object.

Broadcast
Avery's thoughts are constantly being broadcast quite powerfully on psychic and spiritual wavelengths. Spiritual/psychic sensitives without training who are near her can't help but hear her thoughts and be aware of her emotions. Trained sensitives can shut her thoughts out, but will find it requires more effort than silencing the thoughts of others.

Contaminate
Avery's dreams bleed into the dreams of others sleeping nearby. The range of effect depends on the intensity of the emotions Avery feels in the dream. The effect can be as simple as a single aspect of Avery's dream appearing at random in another person's dream, or as complex as other dreams being 'pulled in' to the 'world' of Avery's dream in their own dream, and sharing the experience of the dream with Avery.

Biography: Avery was born into a world of secret handshakes and weird rituals. Her parents and entire extended family were founding members of a secret society called the Wise Owl Initiates. From birth, Avery was indoctrinated by everyone around her to believe that nothing was as it seemed, and that dark powers were pulling the strings behind every world government and institution.

Despite the more bizarre bits of her early childhood, she still got a decent education from the Wise Owls, who value logic and reasoning (as long as it doesn't undermine their beliefs). She was often praised as an intelligent and inquisitive child, though sometimes her curiosity got her in trouble when she asked too many of the wrong kinds of questions (such as: 'but if the President is an alien lizard in disguise, how come he doesn't sleep all day like other lizards do?')

If there was one thing lacking in Avery's early childhood, it was her parents. Since they were VIPs in the society, they always had things to do. Things that usually involved not being there to raise their daughter. Instead she was 'raised' by the other members of the society, which lead to her never really forming strong paternal/maternal bonds with anyone.

Other than that, things were pretty normal up until Avery began to manifest her unique powers. Around the time she became elementary-school aged (she was home-schooled, of course), Avery started to get strange feelings about certain objects. She would touch a book or family heirloom and insist that she could see the thoughts and memories of people who had once owned those objects. The society members were skeptical until many of them actually witnessed a ghostly scene described by Avery playing out before their very eyes.

From that day forward the society referred to Avery as a 'psychometer', or a person who can sense psychic information from objects and locations. They were all convinced that Avery's visions were the absolute truth, even if history books or people's own memories contradicted the things Avery would 'see' when she touched certain objects or walked into certain rooms.

Avery enjoyed the attention she got from doing these readings very much. The more the members of the society focused on her, the more wild and creative the memories she sensed became. Soon Avery was regularly calling up ghosts and phantom noises, playing out scenes from the past she insisted were real. Even her parents started paying attention to her again, which threw more fuel on Avery's fire.

Unfortunately, Avery was not the only one in the society with psychic powers. Another of the older members, who was a true psychic, started to tell everyone that Avery's visions and manifestations were fake. He said that Avery wasn't a psychometer, but instead some kind of psychic broadcaster, who could influence reality with her thoughts and emotions. In other words, Avery's psychic revelations were nothing more than her imagination taking form.

Avery stubbornly refused to believe the other psychic, especially because losing the one thing that made her special could cost her the attention of her parents. She fought back, accusing the psychic of being a liar, and the argument of who was right developed into a huge feud that almost split the Wise Owl Initiates down the center. Finally, choosing the well being of the society over their own daughter, Avery's parents decided to send her away. It was their hope that Avery could find help and truth with regards to her powers in a place where special powers were a normal thing.

So, Avery was sent to Starlight Academy, along with specific instructions that her teachers find some way to make her accept the truth about her powers. Avery, for her part, continued to stubbornly believe that her powers were a key to the truth, and that anybody who tried to tell her otherwise was obviously part of a massive conspiracy seeking to silence her.

Avery doesn't just want her visions to be true, she needs them to be true. If she could just prove that she really did have the power to see the memories of objects and places maybe her parents would take her back and pay attention to her again. All she wants is a little love and appreciation.
