Welcome to the Alternate Universe contest, a chance to explore what your characters lives could be like in another reality. Every AU contest has a set theme, and each AU contest leads into a virtual reality sim VR game, where your character can experience that life through the space station's VR simulator. For more info on the VR Simulations, see this wiki page.
What Kind of Contest is This?
This contest has participants creating a character draft of a specified AU or theme. This is not an application, but instead a brief summary of what your character would be like in the AU. Characters should be a version of one of your (accepted) characters, but re-imagined to fit the setting.
This is not a competitive contest. There are no winners or losers, but participating in the contest will grant all participants an upgrade voucher, in addition to getting them ready to go for the VR event.

How Do I Enter?
To enter, grab the form in the second post, decide your idea, fill it out, and then POST IT IN THIS THREAD. Please do not PM it to a mod or post it elsewhere. Anyone can enter as long as they have at least one accepted character (if you're accepted during the contest period, that's fine).
Any Other Restrictions?
This contest is taking on a slightly different format from other AU contests. Players will have only five days to enter, and may only enter one entry. Depending on how the first version of this goes, this AU contest may be rerun in the second half of the month with a new set of characters. Characters can submit entries on the 27th, 28th, and 29th, but will not be eligible for the early-entry upgrade voucher reward.
You can only have one character in this AU.

Other Rules:
These apps are intended to be short and to the point. Please don't go heavily past the word count limits, as the idea is to give people who you might ICC with a chance to briefly skim over the essentials of your character. Again, please only enter one application.
July Alternate Universe Contest: Space Colony
Entries Close 23:59 PST on July 26th
Entries Close 23:59 PST on July 26th
The Colony Ship Morpheus is on year 139 of it’s 450 year journey from Earth to Terra Prime, a colony world intended to be the first of the Galactic Empire of Mankind. You are the lucky colonists, chosen because you have unique skills and training that will be useful on the fledgeling colony. You have been placed in cryostasis for the duration of the journey. You are to awaken on the last year of the journey to begin preparations for landing on Terra Prime, your new home.
However something has gone wrong. For an unknown reason, the ship's systems have woken up the occupants of a single statis bloc: You. Now it's a race against time, with no weapons, limited food and medical supplies, and a constant ticking clock to figure out what woke you up and get back to your pods before something terrible happens.
—-
All occupants of the Morpheus are normal humans, coming from an earth not unlike our own. No one has any powers, but the jobs available are what you'd expect from a near-future setting. Consider why your character might choose to be on the colony ship, as well as what kind of skills they might offer.

This event is a rerun of the earlier space colony event. The setup is the same, although the plot is different. This event will not have an on-planet day. In response to feedback, this event is going to be more strongly mystery/horror focused, and will have increased stakes. No, not everyone is going to die (probably), but there's definitely a chance that characters will die. Characters who die will immediately wake up, and get a chance to sit and watch a 'highlights reel' of the rest of the event that it happens until the simulation completes. Simulations are not run in real time, so they wouldn't be waiting long at all by the time someone wakes up.
The 'pausing' worked really well last time, so we're going to be doing it again this time around. This event will run from 9AM July 28th, and will continue into the evening. Sometime before midnight, assuming the game hasn't been completed, the game will pause, and players will be allowed to ICC as normal (With non-VR sim characters) until the game resumes at 9AM the following morning. This game might not necessarily reach two days--it hugely depends on how the mystery gets handled by players.
