Welcome to a revamped version of the Alternate Universe contest! We're going to be using a new format, which should make things a bit easier on everyone. If you have feedback or suggestions for the format, feel free to shoot Romi a PM.

What Kind of Contest is This?
​
This is a contest to create a character draft for a specified AU or theme. This is not the same thing as an application (the format is different, and it's far shorter), intended to give people an idea of what your character would be like in a given AU. Characters should be a version of one of your (already accepted character), but reimagined! Applications will be judged on creativity, faithfulness to the original character app, and the overall general concept.

For example, if the example was 'werewolf AU', and you made your half-wolf character into a werewolf, that would be faithful, but not terribly creative. If you had a character who had been attacked by an animal in the past as a significant part of their character history, and rewrote it so it was a werewolf attacking them (leading them into their career as a werewolf hunter), that would be both creative and faithful.

How Do I Enter?​

To enter, grab the form in the second post, decide your idea, fill it out, and then POST IT IN THIS THREAD: Entry Thread. Please do not post it here or PM it to Romi. Anyone can enter as long as they have at least one accepted character (if you're accepted during the contest period, that's fine), but since mods will be doing the judging, mods cannot win.

Any Other Restrictions?​

In order to give everyone time to enter, the contest period will take ten days of entries. The winners will be announced during the mid month announcements.

Other Rules:​

These apps are intended to be short and to the point. Please don't go heavily past the word count limits, as the idea is to give people who you might ICC with a chance to briefly skim over the essentials of your character.

Players can only enter only one application, but can make (and post) as many as they'd like. The first one you post is considered your entry, unless you CLEARLY mark otherwise.

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.​

Reckon Mr. Frost didn't consider we'd get both. The War left the planet scorched, only small pockets of vegetation left behind while the rest burned up and blew away. The nuclear winter hit soon after.

Lotta animals died out during those first few years. The ones that survived were tough or resourceful. Luckily, we're kind of both. Humanity kept on kickin'. For a while, it looked like we'd learned our lesson. Communities cropped up all over, using whatever resources they could and sharing alike so we all had a chance to survive. Eventually, a lot of these badlands communities naturally together.

The city of Haven. Not the most creative name, but it gets the point across. A beacon of just what we humans are capable of when we stop killing each other for five minutes. It prospered and grew, becoming a trading hub of sorts. Twenty years of peace, twenty years with some semblance of stability.

But someone always has to stir the pot. Enter the Fire Eaters. Bunch of bastards from out East, where all this cooperation stuff didn't take. It wasn't much to worry about at first. A caravan lost here, a couple of people taken on the road there. Bad, but not bad enough. Now they've got a new leader, one with her eyes set on Haven and all it has to offer. She wants a throne what ain't hers, and she'll make the rivers run red to get it.

Characters in this AU setting are entirely human with no supernatural powers. Otherwise, be whatever you want in reference to the setting given above.

The city of Haven is small compared to what we think of today, but it's the biggest settlement in the badlands. A trading hub of sorts, it caters to all kinds who can come and go at their leisure.

The Cops, the name everyone remembers of peace keepers, make sure everyone plays nice in Haven, even if that means a beating from time to time. They've been having their hands full lately trying to keep the Fire Eaters from getting a foothold inside the city wall.

Meanwhile, the Fire Eaters are closing in. A gang of raiders, they roam the badlands stealing, kidnapping, and killing. It's not all about survival though, some of them seem in it for the thrill. They sometimes pop up inside Haven. Hard to tell who's friend and who's foe when they aren't wearing their colors.​
