As the warm morning sun started to softly light up Celeste's bedroom, stray sun rays beginning to peek through the filmy curtains, Celeste stretched under the covers lazily, feeling all warm and cozy - and safe and secure too. She had slept surprisingly well last night, no strange dreams, no dreams of people she loved in weird situations, nothing. It had been a deep a restful sleep. Sitting up slowly, she glanced around the room, not quite fully awake yet. Seeing something, a heap of clothing at the foot of her bed, maybe... it took Celeste a moment to realise that Shale must have sneaked in her room at some point during the night. Smiling at this, she took a long moment to stare at him lovingly.

Shale had come into her life so very unexpectedly, at a time when she'd started to realise how badly she wanted somebody to take care of, someone who actually needed her and that she could love and protect. In a strange twist of fate, the boy had been an answer to her prayers, and now, after only a short while together, she couldn't see a life without having him somewhere in it.

"Shale... sweetheart," she said softly, "Mon chere..." she murmured in French, "Wakey, wakey...." she cooed as she tried to gently wake him up. "It's Sunday, and it's breakfast time soon..." she added, knowing he enjoyed it when she made breakfast him on Sunday. She usually made him his favourite foods then, since she had the whole day free and they could spend the time together if he wanted to.

Shale had gotten home fairly late, having been out in the city trying to socialize with more people like Celeste had suggested. In reality, though, he liked staying home with her when he could, helping around the house and just generally being present. Ever since she had summoned him here, he had just been absolutely dumbfounded by her kindness, and over the past two months became very, very attached to her. He was similarly clingy to how a dog might be, which funnily enough wasn't the only attribute of theirs he was mimicking.

The gargoyle boy had an exceedingly rough time sleeping alone in his room, as he always did, and had made an quiet excursion into Celeste's room at about one in the morning, laying at the foot of her bed so as not to disturb her and bundling up with blankets. When morning came, he was still more than half asleep when she began to attempt coaxing him awake, the words only registering to him as her usual, pleasant voice. He groaned quietly, mumbling something incoherent about needing more time, and promptly shifted his position, snuggling up to his caregiver and nestling his head into her neck.

"Ay, mon petit... ** " Celeste laughed softly giving Shale a hug and planting a soft on top of his head when he changed positions and snuggled in closer to her. She enjoyed these quiet times they shared, and she knew, almost instinctively, that he needed her gentleness, understanding and patience and found absolutely no reason to not let him curl up at the end of her bed. She knew that one day, he'd be better adjusted to his new world, home, and that he probably wouldn't need her as much.

"It's time, mon chere***, to get up and greet the day..." she told Shale softly, giving his head another tiny peck before she poked him gently in the side with her finger as she sat up all the way, letting him back onto the pillows. Looking down at him, Celeste just grinned at his sleepy face and lightly poked him again. "Come, my little Shale, up, up, up..." she teased as she tried to get him to wake up fully.

Shale was just full of grumbles at the prods Celeste was giving him, hugging her again but actually straightening out his legs as well. He was a fairly heavy sleeper, but eventually her words and gentle touches broke through, his eyes fluttering open halfway. ". . .O..h...good morning, Celeste...sorry for sneaking in again. I was really lonely." He sat up next to her, leaning on her and cuddling up once again, feeling particularly affectionate this morning for whatever reason. Perhaps it was the anxiety of having gone out to talk to new people, or simply that he wanted to be close to her.

"Your bed is nice to sleep in...I always rest better when I get to be with you. I'm sorry if that's strange, or...yeah..." He sighed gently, laying his head in her lap and almost closing his eyes again, still quite groggy. "I had a surprising amount of fun last night...I talked to two vampires. They were actually really nice. They understood that they shouldn't ask me to do things, and we got along. One was the student president, or something...but, right, anyway. Is it okay if we just...stay in bed for a little bit more? It feels nice, and, um...comforting."

"It's okay, Shale... don't worry, I understand," she told him gently, and she meant it. She didn't mind Shale sneaking in when he needed to. She totally understood his anxiety problems, and while she knew it wouldn't be a good thing to let him sleep in her room all the time, she could see no reason not to let him come in and curl up when he needed to.

When he curled up beside her and laid his head on her lap, she lightly ran her fingers through his soft hair in a comforting gesture, "No, it's not strange, hun... " she said smiling down at him softly. "It's comforting to sleep where you feel safe..."

Hearing about his night out, Celeste just nodded thoughtfully and continued to stroke his hair lovingly. It was good he was getting out. She had encouraged him to do so but didn't force him either - she didn't want him to feel she was forcing him to do something he wasn't ready for.

The only thing she worried about was him hanging out with vampires, though she knew that that couldn't be helped - the island was full of them - and had to trust that he was smart enough to know when they might try and get him to do their bidding.

"I am glad you had a good time..." she told him bending down and kissing the top of his head. "Just remember to be careful, okay, I worry about you," she said as a gentle reminder.

"And of course, we can stay a bit longer, I don't have to be anywhere... and it is Sunday..." she said with a smile, agreeing that it was quite nice here in bed. In fact, she hadn't had a proper lay in in quite a while.

Shale listened to Celeste's words with a light smile, humming quietly and contentedly along and snuggling her like his life depended on it. She simply brought on a sense of warmth and security in them that up until just recently had been entirely unknown to him, and he craved more of it all the time. More attention, more affection; everything she gave him he hoped to be able to return as best as he could. Grabbing one of her wonderfully soft blankets, he brought it up and around the pair of them, hugging his arms around her and sighing.

"Yeah...I know you worry about stuff, I'm sorry. I don't want you to feel bad because of me. I mean, you give me so much already...but I'm always careful, I promise. I would never want to hurt you." He looked up at her with the most genuine expression of blissful happiness, moving his hand to hold hers and squeezing it gently. "...I love you, mom." The gargoyle rested his head in her lap for a few more moments before abruptly sitting up and scooting away, eyes wide and a heavy blush on his cheeks. "N-no, uh, I, um...I mean Celeste. Yeah...sorry, sorry...sorry!"

"I know, you don't want to worry me, Shale..." Celeste murmured comfortingly and just hugging him closer when she felt his arms around her middle. She knew he wouldn't want to worry her. But she did, and she knew it was natural for her because she cared for him and wanted things to go well for him. She knew some of his life story and had sort of guessed the rest, and knew he had had it tough before he came to live with her and so she really wanted him to feel safe and happy.

"And I trust you, don't ever think I don't..." she added glancing down at him and smiling, "I just want you to be safe, that's all," she explained, squeezing him softly and letting the subject drop. Not wanting to harp on it.

When Shale unconsciously called her momma and told her that he loved her, Celeste felt every fibre in her melt, and she could feel a tiny lump of emotion forming in her throat, a catch in her breath. Feeling Shale pull away suddenly in shock at what he said, Celeste couldn't help but want to reassure him. Smiling tenderly at him then, she reached out and stroked his cheek, "Would you like me to be your mother, Shale?" she asked softly, blinking back little tears of happiness when she asked him the words.

"Cause I would love to be able to call you my son, if you want?" she added meeting his young uncertain gaze with a happy smile.

Shale had been more than prepared to simply play off what he had said as a slip of the tongue, to come up with some kind of excuse to assure her that is wasn't what he had meant; he was convinced that he had overstepped and she would be upset with him. The words that followed, however, were an utter shock, like time had frozen for him and him alone. He shivered at the gentle caress of his cheek, lip quivering slightly as he tried to register what she had said fully. "...Th..at...y-you...that's something that...you can do?"

He was in utter disbelief, a frothing wave of emotions crashing over his heart; his chest tightened as he tried to form the proper words to answer her. Of course he wanted that, it was one of the things he had yearned for above all else for as long as he could remember. Even in just these short couple of months, he had grown closer to Celeste than he had to anyone else he could recall, and he had dreaded a time when she would finally ask him to leave. He tried to say yes, of course, any given affirmation, but the words all stuck in his throat, and he simply resorted to a shaky few nods as he collapsed forward against her, the familiar mild stinging of tears making itself known as he began to cry against her chest, overjoyed and overwhelmed.

"Oui... that is something that I can do. And would love to do..." she confirmed with a happy smile and nodded her head, tears in her eyes when Shale asked her, shocked and surprised, if she could actually make him into her son. "Yes, I can adopt you formally, get legal guardianship... " she explained with another smile as she blinked back the tears that threatened to fall.

And when Shale hurled himself at her suddenly, knocking hers backwards a bit, and then collapsing in a heap of tears of happiness, her heart swelled, making her choke up, it was all she needed to know. He didn't need to say anymore, his actions told her everything that she needed to know.

"My beautiful, Shale..." she murmured into his hair softly, hugging him close as he wept, "I love you, my sweet boy... and I am so happy and very honoured that you want me to be your mom..." she said while choking back tears as she rocked and cuddled him against her, wanting to love and protect him like a real mother might.

Shale was putting forth massive effort to speak, to say anything at all to tell Celeste how much he appreciated this, but every time he tried he only half formed the words before losing his composure and just clinging to her tighter. He squeezed her hand weakly, his tears falling onto the sheets and making a little pattern of stains there. "Y-you...I c...an't..." To him, it felt like he was in an impossible dream, one he had never thought to see.

It was a process of several minutes, but finally, his tears slowed to an eventual halt, his cheeks wet and a little shiny from the whole ordeal. The young gargoyle stared into Celeste's eyes, an unmistakable expression of pure happiness and gratitude on his face. "Thank you, thank so you much! I don't know...what to say, it feels like my chest is gonna explode. I love you so, so much, you're just...I love you, mom!" He wrapped his arms around her again, leaning against her in a hug he hoped would never have to end.
