It was after lessons had ended for the day, and Steven was still in one of the classrooms of the school. One of the alchemy classrooms in particular. He knew that his academic knowledge was only something that would be able to take him so far. Reading books on alchemy would do little to make him better at using it, unless he spent time experiment. It was for that reason he was in the classroom even after classes had finished for the day. Sitting at a table, different mixture of substance in front of him. Trying to recreate a simple elixir to stave off sleep, he had read about. Something simple enough, but also useful if he managed to pull it off.
Mixing the contents of two vials, in to a larger metal beaker. Steven picked it, carefully smiling when it didn't immediately start smoking or explode. All there was left to do, was heat and mix it. Steven pointed his hand towards the beaker and created a small flame. Using his powers, to avoid having to set up a burner to heat the beaker and doing it directly himself. Mixing the combination of liquids, quickly with small clean metal rod with his other hand.
It was at this point Steven satisfaction of getting up to this point fell away. As he mixed and heated the substance, it suddenly started to react much faster then he had been expecting from the heat. Bubbling from to still to boil quickly enough that the beaker toppled over to side. "Oh shit." Steven yelled out, leaping back from the table and falling from his stool. Hitting the ground with a thud but managing to avoid being covered in boiling liquid. "God damn it." He groan, thumping the floor beside him and moving to climb back to his feet. Intending to clean up the mess he had made.
