Jessie almost ignored that comment while eating that spaghetti, but heard the word 'killed.' "Hey, I've heard of that in the news. Weren't you..." she couldn't finish her question, as she thought that Jake would not want to talk about it. "Sorry." She mouthed.
Jessie just ignored Jake and again started to worry. This whole assassin conversation is making her feel uneasy, maybe even slightly sick. She asked Jake something she was afraid to ask until now: "Why didn't you quit? Why don't you quit?"
"I need the money to live..." he said quietly, "My sister took another job and turned her ways to god." he continued, "But God & the Devil are only a fragment of our imagination."
Jessie thought of what to say for a minute. She then gave up on that and finally finished the spaghetti. Well, there are a few strands left, but she decided that since Jake hasn't eaten as much that she should offer some to him. She drank her tea. Too bitter. She added milk and sugar. Much better.
Jessie looked at the menu again and pondered on what to have next. She couldn't decide, so she asked Jake "Second course, or straight to pudding? I can't decide."
