A sketchbook. A pencil. A sunny day and a drake.
Laetus hovered over a bench, looking and moving like he were sitting, but upon closer examination, he never actually touched his seat. There he sat-- er, floated, drake on his shoulder, a soda at his side, and a sketchbook in hand, with the frilled edges that remained of many carelessly torn out pages bunching up in the books ring binding. Laetus would sit there, tapping at the next blank page with his pencil to the rhythm of the music in his ears for quite a while before finally beginning to put marks on the page. For a time, all his focus would be on that page. As the picture would near completion, Laetus would groan, stop, tear the page out, and feed it to the chubby red and gold drake that sat upon his shoulder. The creature would happily consume it and burp up a fireball.
This pattern would repeat many times over as the day went on. Before he knew it, the sun was falling, the day drawing slowly to its end. Soon enough, the sky would be bathed in the red and orange glow of sunset. Laetus, however, had not seemed to notice. Even his own stomachs growling, which would normally take priority over anything, went unanswered.

Maddie ran with her dog, Bandit. She was in her most comfortable form, the coyote. She ran to and fro, sniffing out the area, but otherwise silent. Bandit wore no leash or collar; Maddie didn't know what the leash laws at the isle were, but she couldn't bear to put a collar on her poor pup. He hated such things.

As she came across the man on the bench, she halted and canted her head to the right. Maddie sat back on her haunches as if to pose for him. Bandit stopped where he was digging in some soil and glanced at the two, but they didn't hold his interest long enough to go and investigate.

For a few moments, Laetus was still lost in thought. It would be a few moments before he noticed his new model. Once he noticed, he smiled at the canine and lowered his headphones from his ears, unleashing the tune that he had drifted into.
"Oh, hi there." He would say with a smile. "Maybe a model is just what I needed. Would you stay there for a moment?" He asked. He would then start sketching.

Maddie wasn't a generally fan of such hard music, but even still she found herself wanting to dance around.

At the man's smile and tone of voice kept her still, though. She sat a little taller and positioned herself for a portrait. She didn't hold her breath, luckily, but her nose did begin to itch in the way it only could when you knew you couldn't deal with it.

Bandit looked over again; attention caught when words came from the man. He snorted and padded closer, but kept a safe radius from the two of them as he circled.

Finally and went and lay beside his master, as if he too was posing.

Laetus didn't notice the dog until he had joined the picture. By that point, he had a basic sketch already. He stopped for a moment, but seeing as it seemed he was there to stay, Laetus began erasing and editing to fit his new model in.

Bandit stayed still save for the random wag of his tail. He had laid his chin on his forepaws and was partially curled around Maddie as he stared at the man with large, soulful eyes.

Maddie felt a little odd posing for some boy she didn't know, but she wasn't nervous. She knew she would have been had she not been a coyote. She focused on the sound of his sketching as she waited for him to finish, trying to shrug off the persistent itch in her nose.

She thought it was nice out, perhaps chill to those without protection from the air, but to her it felt nice, and she could smell an array of scents. Food is what she mostly honed in on. Her stomach growled loudly, and she took the time to imagine what she would eat after this.

As he started to finish up, Laetus' smile slowly faded, changing into a crossing of focus and frustration. After a while, his hand stopped. He looked at the drawing for a moment, then began hitting the pad against his head in frustration. "Nothing's coming out right..."
He stood up, tearing the page out as he did, and feeding it to Zippo before walking over to the pair and kneeling in front of them.
"Sorry for wasting your time." He said sadly. He held out a hand, and if allowed would pat their heads. "I couldn't do justice to such lovely creatures. I guess realism just isn't my thing..."

((Sorry that took so long. I was kinda gonna draw this irl and post it... I ended up doing more or less the same thing as Laetus. XP))

Coyote Maddie and Bandit were both happy to have their head patted. Bandit so much as scooted forward and gave the man an adoring look as his tongue rolled from his mouth.

Maddie, against her nervousness, changed from her coyote to her regular form and sat crossed legged on the ground. She was lucky she was able to shift fully clothed; she'd have just died otherwise!

"I think it's just cool you can draw! I can't draw. I suck at drawing." She spoke with a nervous smile plastered on her face. "Oh, uh, my name's Maddie. I'd be happy to pose for you anytime; it's fun!" She looked off to the side, avoiding eye contact.

((It really is the artists curse :p. I just think it's cool you can draw, and it's fine that it took awhile, sometimes that happens.))

Laetus, in stunned confusion, continued to pet the girl for another moment or two. However, he quickly shook it off and smiled. Being here so long, these things don't really shock him anymore.
"Thank you, but nothing seems to be coming out right lately. Maybe I should take a break from drawing for a while." He answered with a sigh.
"Oh, I'm Laetus by the way." He told her, smiling once again. Seems he bounces back fast.
"So does your friend transform too?" He asked, pointing to Bandit.

((Heh. I've kinda been in the same situation as Laetus lately though. I just haven't had it in me lately.))

"Maddie," she said by way of greeting. Her smile grew at his; it seemed his kindness was infectious. Maddie found herself relaxing, despite that he was not only a person but a boy person.

To his question, Maddie's eyes squinted in confusion. By all rights, it wasn't an odd question, especially not here, but it never occurred to her that people might mistake Bandit for a shapeshifter too.

"No," she said when she found her voice. Her hand reached out to scratch Bandit under the chin. He gave an appreciative groan.

"Bandit is just a normal dog. A cute normal dog, but normal nonetheless." She met the boys eyes, trying to determine how old he might be. He couldn't have been much older than her, right? It seemed rude to ask, so instead she said, "What other cool stuff can you do? Do you do photography? Painting?"

((I hate it when that happens! I suffer the curse of writers block, rather than drawers block, though.))
