Acinaces Arena keeps a large staff of fighters for weekend fights. Realistically speaking, no one is ever turned down for a job at the arena, but how successful someone is and how many fights they get will vary pretty wildly.
It's important to realize that the Arena does not do prizefighting (fights where the winner gets money). Simply put, the economy couldn't manage that, and there's not enough spectators or people willing to come out to watch. Winners and losers are going to get the same amount of money, according to their contracts.
Generally speaking, what the arena wants is stories. Someone with a specific quirk is more interesting than someone who's completely serious. Someone's skill at fighting has almost no relation to how much they are paid. There are human-level fighters who are getting paid the same amount per fight as god-level fighters.
Fights are paired up based on what's the most interesting. What's going to be flashy. What will draw a crowd.
It's your showmanship and your flair that are going to get people in the seats more often than not, and it's only people with a talent for that who are going to be able to make a living on it.
