Are you really a... student?

The city was crowded; although it was not as crowded as the New York city itself it was still pretty crowded. This place was fairly new to him so it was right for him to get familiar before going around and search for the students with powers. John would begin his education tomorrow, and his background was altered so that he was nothing more than a new transfer student from some other place than an agent working for the government. His outfit allowed him to blend in with his surroundings, a camouflage of the ‘world’ so he would call it. He wore a pair of leather shoes, a pair of jeans, a white shirt and over it a black jacket indeed this was the perfect casual outfit any other outfit… John refused. Within his pocket he may seemed to have been carrying an MP3 player, but the earphones were his actually communication device for receiving information. Of course, John could talk into it, but it was best for him not to for the sake of looking ‘normal’.

“A restaurant at north east, twenty-five yards away.” His sharp brown eyes scanned around his surroundings actively, he muttered to himself so that he himself could hear it. John was quickly absorbing his surroundings like a sponge; this place was easier to remember than he had thought it would be, “Public library at west, fifteen-blocks away.”

His pair of sharp brown eyes gave people piercing gaze like a spear through their heart, probably you wouldn’t want that kind of stare from someone so it was natural to look away and keep doing what you were doing. He turned up his Mp3 player listening to classical music, John sat down on an empty wooden bench with an urge to pull out his pistol, disassemble and clean it… because he’s been doing that a lot lately it became a habit. This place was sure peaceful, there was no need for him to pull out any of his weapons actively… it was like as if he was on a vacation, not that it was bad or anything. “Agent John, we’ve got an update for your mission. Your time has been reduced until the end of the school year; by that time you must bring back one of the students. Use necessary force if must.”

John face palmed by the news, and he thought he had a year and a half now it was reduced to this school year… boy was the government impatient to get their hands one of the students. “Understood.” The agent whispered and stood up, if he could just meet one of the students out here that’d be convenient this would not only allow him to gain intel on what kind of powers that he or she has, but as well as about the school and the rules so that he can get around it. John against strolled himself around the streets with his hands in his pocket, and again he repeated the same words over and over: “Duty comes first, duty comes first, duty comes first….”

Alex sighed as she inelegantly walked down the sidewalk of the street. This, like so many days lately it seemed, was one of those bad days she wished she just stayed in her room curled up in a fetal position on her bed. These kinds of days were becoming so regular lately she was wondering if she was ever going to have a nice relaxing day ever again. At that moment, however, she couldn’t worry about that right now; all her attention was focused on two things. The first keeping the random thought noise of the crowded city street out of her head. Secondly, and most importantly for her dignity, was not falling flat on her face.

Today Alex was looking for a job. That wasn’t something she looked forward to by at all but with money from her parents becoming less and less frequent she knew she had to get a job. That was fine with her, Alex was never bothered by a little hard work, and it was what she had to wear as she went to interviews and fill out application. She was wearing a white button up dress shirt, a skirt that went to just above her knees, a pair of nude colored pantyhose and pair of six inch high heeled pumps. It was bras were bad enough, but Alex had quickly realized they were a necessity, skirts and hosiery, she could put up when absolutely necessary, but a high heeled shoe that she didn’t think she could ever get used to. Wearing them was like have to learn to walk all over again and more than a few times when wearing them before she had fallen on her butt and the longer she wore them the sorer her feet and ankles would become.

Alex had been out for most of the day from, going from one store to another to another restaurant just filling out applications anywhere a help wanted sign was out and in some places they don’t. Now her feet were reminding her of this long trek around town, they were throbbing and swollen in her shoes and every step was beginning to feel like she was stepping on landmines. She needed to sit down somewhere for just a few minutes to rest her feet.

She stopped dead in her tracks and smiled when she saw the wooden bench. Strolling slowly and deliberately, thinking with every footstep doing everything she could to not slip and fall. Sitting down at the bench she reminded herself to cross her legs and took a deep sigh of relief as she, that hard wooden bench felt like the most comfortable softest of thrones anyone had ever made. That’s when she noticed a boy sitting there already mumbling to himself. She didn’t care though, she wasn’t sure she could get up and leave right now even if he was barking mad insane.
