Regina blinked a few times, as though processing something. "Right, you need to eat more than just cake! I'll go with you." She grinned up at him. Even if the food she brought wasn't enough for him, sitting down to eat with Jackal would be great. Then they would get a chance to know each other, and she could ask him about everything.

"I really like your tail, by the way. It looks really cool in person." She had stared at it a couple of times throughout their conversation so far. It didn't look anything like he had a giant centipede up his butt, and it didn't move like one either, which was a huge relief to Regina.

Yes, yes he definitely needed to eat more than cake. In fact, the cake was going to do almost nothing for him. He was a meat eater more than anything, a carnivore by necessity, and most of what he ate was meat.

"Thanks," he said, sparing a brief look at his tail. Hillariously, they had almost the exact same thought, only Jackal went so far as to voice it. "It's not too much like a centipede, right? People keep saying that, but aside from the fact that it's got legs and armor, it's not like that at all."

"Mhm!" Regina nodded in satisfied agreement. It was like they were on the same wavelength. "I totally agree! There's a lot of things with armor and little legs like that. And yours are way better-looking than a centipede's. Centipedes are kinda nasty."

Soon, they would be making their way through the teleporter pads. On the other side, Regina would transform, sprouting her wings and her extra arms, then flying up to a support cross-beam higher up in the building. This was where she had hidden the cake. It probably didn't hurt, in Regina's mind, that flying up here would let Jackal see up her skirt. Visible through the clear plastic covering, it had white frosting, with the words "WELCOME HOME JACKAL" written on in blue. She showed it to him and smiled.

"By the way, you said earlier you were just doing your job when you saved me. What is your job, anyway?" Was it being a superhero? Regina didn't think that was allowed here, but it fit better than anything else she could think of.

It didn't take much for Jackal to realize that Regina was not a fan of her mom. That was good. Really good, considering that he was none too happy with Regina's mother. Nasci was a real piece of work, and Jackal wouldn't hesitate to put her down if she did... well, pretty much anything.

Jackal did, in fact, see up her skirt. Not intentionally, but how was he supposed to know? He looked away after a moment, wondering if she'd done that intentionally. She wasn't, right? She was like... a month old. Tops.

Jackal squinted at the cake, which was... alright. Too much sugar for him, but he'd still have a slice and call it a day. Gotta be nice to her, even if she was starting to border on a little bit clingy.

"Not that kind of job," he said. "Duty, I guess? Something like that. I don't like assholes around, and I'm not going to let her kill a bunch of kids."

Eggs at that point. Not even kids. But the idea was there.

So Jackal just killed Nasci because she was an asshole, and she was going to kill kids. It wasn't his job or anything. Regina spent a moment just looking up at him, processing this. "...you're basically a superhero vigilante. Like in the movies." With the way Regina was grinning, she clearly thought that was really cool. It was perfect, actually.

Regina would keep following him, and it would occur to her - she didn't actually know what Nasci did to make Jackal think she was an asshole. There were a lot of obvious things it could have been, but maybe the real reason wasn't any of those. "What'd my mom do to make you think she was an asshole?" The more Regina knew about his reasons for killing, the better.

A superhero vigilante? No no no, he wasn't anything like that. Only explaining things was... confusing. How was he supposed to explain any of this? How was he supposed to answer her question?

"Well, for one," Jackal said, "she picked a fight and like, stalked Malara or something. And don't get me wrong, Malara can be a bit of an asshole, but she keeps to herself and doesn't really bother anyone."

Well, didn't really bother anyone anymore.

"Either way, it's kind of confusing, but basically I've got a god-given-mission to make things as frustrating as possible for assholes. So it's kind of like that. Not really vigilantism, except by the standards of the island."

Regina nodded. "Well, I guess I'd better not become an asshole, then!"

Regina had heard of Malara, when she was figuring out where Jackal had gone. She learned that Malara was in charge of Theia, that she was really strong, and that the weird teen mom in charge of the demon club was her girlfriend or something. That last piece of information had done a lot to soothe her fears - she wouldn't need to compete with a rich superwoman for Jackal's affection. Jackal calling her an asshole just confirmed it.

Carrying the cake, Regina would follow closely, letting Jackal guide the way to this restaurant he liked.

The restaurant wasn't far--which was intentional--and Jackal slipped into a counter seat. No booth for him, not with his tail, and it seemed a bit more fair, and a bit more public. Jackal was aware of how he looked, and he was aware that even on the island, most people's first impression tended towards this man is a shady motherfucker. He actively went out of his way to dissuade people of that notion, and part of that meant being very up front with things.

"I eat meat, for the record," Jackal said as he slid onto his own seat. "Like, I can eat other things, but wanted to point it out in case it bothered you that I'm going to eat like... a stack of meat." He liked it blue, and a lotta people got weirded out by that.

"I'm part gluttony demon, hun. There's not many things you could eat that would make me uncomfortable." Regina smiled.

Regina didn't have a the money to pay for her own food very often. She just ordered a glass of sweet tea, and when it came, Regina started mixing the contents of several sugar packets into it.

"I wish there was a way you could have gotten rid of Nasci for good. I think she's going to come back and try to eat me again." She stared at the dissolving sugar in her cup, uncharacteristically somber.

Oh. Gluttony demon. Right. That made a lot of sense, considering her mother, and Jackal ordered himself a big 'ol steak, cooked blue, before noting the whole sweet tea thing.

"You want to order? Or just happy with that." She was... what, a bee? No, wasp. Pretty sure she was a wasp, and didn't those drink sugar or something?

It was hard not to notice how she'd gone from upbeat to... not.

"You don't have to worry about it," Jackal said. "Nasci's not going to do anything, and if she does, I'm going to just repeat the process."
