Annabelle 'Aurora/Anna' Blythe

♥ 15 | 16th Feb | Female | Vampire | Student (High School Freshman, Grade 9) ♥

Appearance (Non-Vampire):

  • Face-claim: Malese Jow as Annabelle 'Anna' Zhu.
  • Basic: Anna is a girl you would call 'kinda cute'. She has a heart-shaped face adorned with lustrous brown hair falling in waves at her sides when she has them down, but they are usually up in a high ponytail. Her eyes are a dark, penetrating black with a 'deep' look in them, betraying her 'innocent-homeschooled-librarian' look. Her voluptuous lips are a simple, natural pink, just like the rest of herself: simple and natural. Her olive skin - warm to touch due to all the coffee she consumes even though she's a vampire - is soft to touch and doesn't seem tanned. Her figure is tall enough (5'4) and, though she'd not be called 'skinny', calling her 'slim' won't hurt.
  • Clothing: Anna always goes for darker clothing; black is her signature color. She wears big, baggy black shirts with equally dark-colored jeans, or sometimes she pulls over hoodie with tights - but one thing is clear: she's modest when it comes to clothing. She never/very, very less lets her body show. Her fingernails - which she'd been growing into almond shape but ended up with something new and weird - are always painted black, and she never ever takes off her fancy black ring (more on it below), especially when she's in sunlight.
  • Voice: Anna has a soft voice, and she speaks English with a mild Asian accent. Anna is trilingual; she can speak English, Persian and Korean pretty fluently.
  • Other: Anna has only ear-piercings, but she almost never wears any earrings.

Appearance (Vampire):
  • Skin: Her olive skin turns pale when she's in attack mode.
  • Eyes: Though eye color remains same, the whites become blood-red, and a little of outside of eyes is affected, too.
  • Teeth: Sharp canines struck out from upper and lower jaw.
  • Touch: She becomes as cold as ice, despite all the coffee she's been drinking to normalize her body temp.
  • Voice: Her voice turns louder and scarier, and light growls are heard between her words.

Personality:
  • Calm: This is a trait Anna gained right after she completed her vampire transition. She's calm and a no-fuss girl in almost every kind of situation. Every problem can be solved, there's an eternity of time for everything. Unless she's very, very stressed, she's calm and collected.
  • Affectionate: It takes Anna a lot of time and a lot of trust to turn on her affectionate mode, but when it is turned on, she's the softest person you know. Every single word and action of hers would say that she cares for you. Until then, though. She'd be cool and would look like as if she's incapable of feeling emotions - a shrug would be the answer to everything.
  • Complex: Just when you think that you're finally starting to know Anna, she'd do something that would totally make you feel every idea you had about her was wrong. Her personality is very complicated - it takes a lot of time to get to know her. She has a favorite one day, and the same thing becomes her least favorite the next.
  • Omnivert: Before becoming a vampire, Anna was a total introvert. She was homeschooled and had a library job. She kept mostly to herself, having books and shows as her companions. She didn't make a lot of friends, but she was nice and amiable with the ones she had. That changed when she completed her vampire transition. Now, she will be extroverted in a low stimulating environment while being introverted in a high stimulating environment.
  • Creative: Not the kind of creative when one can create awesome artworks, write brilliant stories, make the best handicraft out there - but more the kind of creative where your thinking is creative. Replying to witty remarks creatively. Solving problems creatively. You get the point.
  • Predatory: Another trait which slipped in after she became a vampire. When she doesn't deem a person as her equal, she shows it (without even trying). That happens eighty-nine percent of the times.
  • Competitive: Anna starts a competition between herself and those whom she knows without even realizing.
  • Sarcastic: Self-explanatory.
  • Proud: She's proud. Of herself, her abilities. Everything. She trusts herself too much, often, because of this one particular trait.
  • Smooth, graceful: Just like a vampire. This is something Anna's forcing herself in, not something natural.
  • Stubborn: Self-explanatory.
  • Secretive: She doesn't go around telling people she's a vampire. She doesn't use her powers in public lest she'd be exposed. She never talks about her past.

Hobbies:
  • Gardening: Anna enjoys planting and taking care of plants. She likes almost all kinds of plants, except henbane, to which she's allergic (more in the weakness section). Although she greatly enjoys getting all dirty with plants, she can't take care of plants all by herself.
  • Reading: Before turning into a vampire, Anna used to enjoy science-fiction and fantasy a lot, but lately, as she tries to adjust living as a vampire, she's been reading vampire fics - not for information but for amusement. Like, who even shines in sunlight? Certainly not Anna.
  • Blogging: Anna has been writing diaries and journals since she was seven. When she turned thirteen, she realized that she's wasting a lot of paper and lead. And everytime she finishes a journal and starts a new one, she has to go all again about the introduction. So she switched to writing online, on her matte black laptop. She customized a web log and began writing on it, keeping the view public but staying anonymous by using nicknames for people and fake names for places. Over the time, she gained a lot of followers on her blog, which was totally unexpected because she never posted any useful articles or something like that. Just entries, talking about her days and feelings, and whatever she feels like writing down (including to-do lists, favorite lists, etc). When she became a vampire, she stopped writing altogether - the trauma was too much. But now that she's here at SA now, she's trying to slowly go back to her old lifestyle, and going back to blogging again.
  • Cooking: Anna doesn't particularly enjoy cooking, but she sees it as an important skill everyone (except richest people with two or three personal cooks following them around) should learn. She's not great at cooking, but she's learning, slowly slowly.

Abilities (Active)
:
  • Compulsion: With enough focus and by maintaining eye contact, Anna can compel someone to do whatever she wishes for. This includes mind reading - by asking the victim to verbalize what they have been saying. This is a common ability between vampires. Anna dislikes this very much, and never uses it, except when she's been drinking real human blood (more on it in weakness' section).
  • Protective Ring: Anna has a ring that saves her from burning in sunlight. Without it, Anna will be burned even in a heavily clouded day.

Abilities (Passive):
  • Vampire speed and strength: Anna can run like any other vampire, too fast for a mortal human to catch up. Since she's a newborn fledgling vampire, she can only run seven times faster than a regular human being, but that can be improved with practice. Her strength is weaker than a regular vampire, but better than a human's. Her strength is five times better than that of a regular human being.
  • Heightened senses: Can smell, see and hear seven times better than a regular human being. Although her sight is good enough, better than humans, Anna's hearing and smelling senses are way sharper.
  • Rapid healing: Scratches can get healed in seconds, deep cuts take about as long as a minute and and broken/fractured bones never take more than half an hour.

Weaknesses:
  • Human blood: Anna has something against human blood. When she consumes it, her way of thinking changes dramatically. She becomes dishonest, distrustful and evil. She starts using her compulsion power and other powers on innocent people just for fun. She begins to think it's okay to hurt human people - she's better than them, and being hurt is what they deserve. And usually when she starts drinking human blood, she can't stop. Even a slight scratch on someone can make her loose control. Human blood turns her bloodlust ten times higher.
  • Fire and wood: Like all other vampires, fire can do too much damage to Anna. If staked by wood, she will die, once and for all.
  • Henbane: Touching henbane can cause severe itching, blisters and pain. Inhaling can cause nausea, consuming can cause choking. Injecting it in her blood makes her instantly unconscious. Those who have henbane on them - either raw henbane, or henbane paste/liquid in some kind of jewel in accessories such as necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc - can't be affected by her compulsion.
  • Sunlight: Just like any vampire, going out in the sun causes severe burning on the skin. Going out even on a very cloudy day can burn Anna's skin badly, if she's not wearing her protective ring. Eyes are affected more than the rest of her body, so going in sun without her protective ring can blind her in minutes. Burning starts in minutes, too, and half an hour out will kill Anna by melting her down completely.

Biography:
  • Anna was born to the small Blythe family one cold winter night in Woodsville, where she lived all her human life. Her father, a fishing boat captain working for Woodsville Aquaculture Industry, died shortly after birth due to drowning in a storm when in sea. Her mother Lilia, history teacher at Woodsville High, raised Annabelle and her two-years-elder sister, Annabeth. Anna and Beth were quite close to each other as they both were homeschooled together, shared the same interests (except in books - Beth liked fantasy better) and did almost every activity together. But when Beth left homeschooling and joined Woodsville High for her junior year, Anna and Beth grew slowly apart. Anna worked in library while Beth went out for parties. Anna would write fanfictions while Beth would have movie night-outs with her friends. Anna gardened with her mother while Beth visited Horticulture Museums with her study partners. In the end, Beth became the Outgoing One, and Anna remained the Shy One. That is, until one cold night, when Anna ran into her very first vampire.
  • The night was cold and dark. Anna had just completed her shift at the library and was walking back home, admiring the cover of the new book she's borrowed. To get to her home from library, she has to pass through a park. She was passing it, and it came too fast for her to register. All she remembers is someone grabbing her from behind, holding her hard and biting into her neck. After that, she passed out. When the unfaced vampire was done sucking on Anna's blood, he grinned as an idea plopped into his head out of utter boredom. He slit his wrist open and fed Anna his blood. Then he snapped her neck and buried her. Anna woke up in her grave, hungry.
[*] Anna slid open the coffin and started scratching at the grave, digging and digging until she got out. When she was out - in the park, she was buried in the park - a surprise was waiting for her. The vampire who turned her. He was not alone. By his side stood a lady, tall and beautiful and elegant. And scary. She held the vampire's throat firmly between her fingers, and the vampire looked in pain while the lady herself was calm and collected. "My apologies, young lady." Said the woman. "For all you've been through because of a member of my coven. His misbehaviour has been noted and the punishments will follow. But the damage done cannot be reversed, I'm afraid." Anna stood up and a sob escaped her. "What's going on? Where...What happened?" A look of pure sadness was shown in the woman's eyes. "Raphael here - " she squeezed her fingers around his throat a little " - turned you intentionally. Turned you into a vampire." Anna didn't know when the weeping started, but she was scared. She was so scared. It was late at night. What happened at home? Where's mom? Where's Beth? "I'm a..." The woman shook her hand on Anna's words. "Not yet. The choice is yours, Annabelle. If you feed on human blood now, your transition will be completed and you'll turn into a vampire. If not, if you resist the bloodlust no matter how hard it comes, you'll be in pain, you'll be weak, and eventually, you'll fade away." Anna didn't know what to do. She was scared. So she ran. She ran back to her house, crying all the way. Taking out the key from her pocket, and unlocked the door and barged in - not. Her feet was stopped, as if an invisible barrier blocked her path. Her cries turned louder and louder, and she called for mom, for Beth. Mom didn't come, but Beth came. She was looking pale and worried, her hair a nest and dark circles around her hazel eyes. "Anna!" Beth came forward. She hugged Anna, sobbing. "Where were you, Anna? What happened?" And that's when it came. A monstrous hunger inside of her. It attacked. Beth was hugging her. Anna could smell her. Smell flowing blood beneath the skin. Her neck was close. So close. No, Anna thought. With all the physical force she could muster, she pushed Beth back. "What the hell - " Beth stumbled back and her head connected with the house door. Beth yelped and held her head. Smell. Of blood. Magnetic...delicious...No. Anna took steps back. "Get away from me, Beth." Beth looked pained. "Anna-" "ANNABETH!" Anna yelled, tears in her eyes. "Please," She sobbed. "Go away. Get inside. Get safe." The smell of blood was too much. Beth, without saying anything, brought down her hand from her head. It was shaded with crimson. Anna lost it. She sprung at Beth and licked one time. It was awesome. So tasty, so fulfilling. She licked again. Beth was crying, trying to push Anna away. Anna held firm and licked. Again and again. Her jaw began to hurt. Slowly, then more. She screamed and scratched at her jaw, from her she felt canines sprouting up. Canines were out, bared. Beth's throat lay bloody, bared. Anna bit. Beth screamed. Anna changed. Beth cried. Anna became a vampire. Beth became an anemia patient.
  • Anna went back to the park. The woman was still there, but the male vampire was nowhere to be seen. "I see you made your choice," The woman said. She injected Anna with henbane and took her far away, in a remote place. The woman, Diamond, taught Anna everything she needed to know. She went back to Anna's sister, Beth, and compelled her to forget everything that happened. She helped control the bloodlust a little. She helped use her powers. She was beside her all the time. She applied to Starlight Academy on Anna's behalf. "You were a good girl, Anna." She told her. "It was my fault you went through all this. You can't continue your life in misery. You need a new life. A fresh start." Before Anna left for the academy, Diamond compelled Anna to stop feeling remorse, regret and misery. "I will take it away sometime, but for now, you need it." Anna knows she's under Diamond's compulsion, and she can't help it. Diamond is an elder vampire; Anna is a fledgeling, a newborn. Anna can't fight it. So that's how Anna ended up in SA without any misery of her past clinging to her.

Resources:
Anna lives at the campus (fully funded scholarship), but for daily needs, she has a part time job at the House of Volkov as a waitress.

Other:
  • Anna never takes human blood. Not that she likes it - she craves it so bad, but due to her weakness to it, she can't take it. Also, Anna won't ever hurt a being just because of her hunger (or that's what she thinks). So here's what she uses:
[*]Synthetic Blood: Although it's not as delicious and nutritious as real blood, Anna uses it. It's affordable and easy to purchase, something she's grateful for here at Manta Carlos.
Animal Blood: It feels real and is more nutritious than synthetic blood.
Human Food: It keeps her hunger down. She uses blood just for nutrition, not to keep herself full. Human food does that job.
Coffee: Although Anna largely despises coffee, it helps keep her body warm (she never liked scaring off people because of her ice-cold touch).
[*]Chocolate: Anna doesn't like sweets too much, but it helps a lot with human/blood cravings. She always has a bar or two in her pocket.
Chamomile Tea: She has boxes and boxes of chamomile tea bags because it helps calm down her nerves when she gets one of her memory attacks (see weaknesses).
  • Memories: Vampire violence at such a young age always comes with side-effects. Triggered by something as little as a phrase or sentence related to her past, memories start to come. The dreadful ones, in slow motion. With it comes the fear - oh, the fear. If she doesn't get it in control soon (by drinking chamomile tea and forcing herself of thinking good things, happy things) she gets sucked into an abyss of memories, each scene painful and scary. She loses consciousness during the very, very bad memories, and all she sees is the memory, as if she's living in it. Sometimes, she screams and cries in real life, while her mind would be in the dream. It could be a side-effect of the violence she faced, or a side-effect of Diamond's compulsion on her (see biography).
