Kane hated life right now. No, really, he hated it. He'd come to the forest for a short while just to avoid this catastrophe- and while he had seen.. strange, strange things on his way here, forest areas always calmed him. It was something about the trees, how their thickness shielded him from the rest of the world. It made him feel safer than he usually world. Regardless, it didn't do much to lift his mood.

He was going to have to redo at least one year of highschool, and was stuck in this miserable world with no one he knew and no real way of getting back, unless the technology was made to do so. He felt that was grounds to be pissed. He might have even snapped at a few people prior to coming here- and now that he thought about it, he felt bad for doing so. They didn't deserve it.

Regardless, he was here now. He might as well make the most of it until his potential ways out of this mess became more transparent. A long sigh left him as he simply leaned up against a tree, closing his eyes and allowing himself to simply.. relax. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad after all, especially if they had trees like this all over the place. He'd need to look more when he was done here.

Herman pranced about in the forest, smacking trees on accident with his giant shell. "Now..." Herman remarked gleefully, "Da beach sure was excitin', but dis is a whole new world!" The hermit crab man continued to scuttle across the forest floor grabbing nearby trees - remarking about how much they felt like coral back home. Sometimes grabbing especially nice pieces of bark that he later planned to attach to his shell.

Soon enough, he happened upon Kane, a mysterious man, but sure to be a friend he just hadn't met yet. Herman made an excited shriek at the sight of a new person. Quickly rushing over to greet the man, and destroying, by accident, a few trees in his wake. He stopped about a yard's distance from the man before explaining himself, "Ahhh, a human - dis is splendid! Ah - ah, but just a moment!" Herman quickly reached behind him to fix up his shell, wanting to look his best.

"Da name's Herman, Herman Shellfoster - nice to meet cha." He extended his human like hand to the man, bending his crab lower body enough that the man could easily accept the handshake if he so wished.

Kane's peace lasted but just a moment as he was interrupted by.. someone prancing about. He wanted to snap at them almost immediately, but then he actually laid eyes on who- or what- caused this commotion and he was genuinely at a loss for words. It was a.. crab? A man? What? He had seen many things in his world, even centaurs, but this had to be the first time he had seen someone who was part crab. He wasn't exactly sure how to feel.

To make matters worse, he was a loud crab. Who was destroying trees. And, his biggest offense yet, he was loud. Initial shock wore off after a moment, though he still stared pointedly at the man as he approached, clearly bewildered and a bit wary of this individual. Friendly seeming or not, he was big. He could be dangerous.

It took a long moment of that hard staring and crossed arms for him to eventually, with a small sigh, reach out to shake the hand, muttering, "Uh-- heyyy.. Herman. The name's Kane. What're you doin' out here, huh?"

'When you could clearly be out there, leaving me alone,' came to mind, but he wouldn't say such things. At least, not yet. He huffed as he added, "Where's Ariel? She dump ya?"

The cold reception of Herman was completely disregarded, drowned out in ignorance. He gave a curious glance at Kane when he brought up Ariel. "How did ya know about my second girlfriend? Looker she was, but das old news." While Herman wondered how he might know about his past like that - he was already planning about his future with Kane. "Ah!" Herman remarked, "'scuse me, but I'm out here lookin' for a goodtime!"

Herman quickly began to shake his shell back and forth as he approached Kane, "Now dat I found ya, perhaps I can begin!" He began to scrape pieces of bark together while he beat his shell against two trees to form a beat that he would use to begin serenading the lone man. No way anybody could resist the charms of 'ol Herman the hermit crab!

The activities of Herman began to devolve into an amazingly voiced rendition of "Y.M.C.A". The performance lacked the hand gestures accompanied with the song, as Herman had never actually /seen/ the dance performed. Still, he did his best with the memory he had of the song from the radio.

Kane stared, owl-eyed for a good moment before immediately clapping a hand to his mouth to hide a few poorly controlled snickers. "I-I--... I was joking, it was just a coincidence. I don't know your girlfriend." That said, it was a beautiful coincidence. So beautiful, Kane almost didn't regret coming here to essentially be talked to by a weird crab guy.

His laughter was even less poorly contained the more Herman continued. Was he on drugs? Was this real life? He'd been sure of it until this point, but now he was beginning to have doubts. It took a moment, but he managed to calm himself, moving closer and giving a sympathetic pat to the man's shoulder.

"Herman," He said in a soft, but resolved tone as he shook his head. "You're not gonna get a good time outta me. I'm a angry old fuck with no fun left in 'im. You're better off using that talent on someone else." He paused, before murmuring, "And if you're gonna do Y.M.C.A., you should include the dance, next time. People might even join in on it, if you do it in public. It's pretty iconic."

Herman was confused at the male human. It was impossible that somebody was unable to have a good time. This would do no good - no good at all. This was truly a difficult quest ahead of him. For now, it was his personal mission to figure out how to get Kane into a happy mood. Yes - it had to be done. Not for the sake of Herman or Kane, but for the whole human world! No human could go unhappy - truly this was his character arc! Nine more seasons! - wait, what.

The hermit crab gently set his shell onto the ground nearby, grabbing two large branches from the forest floor that had fallen to the ground long ago. He quickly began beating up a rhythm to accompany his song to the man.

"Now Kane, I see ya gloom." Herman said sympathetically in his sing-song tune, "But give a chance and a smile might bloom!" He now began to dance along with the beating of the shell. "The sensation may seem wild - but take a chance and we might rile! - " Herman transferred the sticks to two of his lower appendages and continued his beatings while wrapping an arm around Kane's shoulder. "If just a while! - " Herman gave a soft pinch of Kane's cheek to try and pull it into a smile, "A smile in you!" The beating continued, but the singing left a pause for Kane to respond.

Kane had been hoping turning the crab down would make him leave. Unfortunately for him, that didn't seem to be part of Herman's plan- and it became obvious with the removal of the shell. 'Wait-- that comes off?' He mused quietly to himself as he stared.

His features fell into a state expressing clear disbelief at the following tune, his brow furrowing. He actually began taking slow, deliberate steps back- but was interrupted by the arm draped around him. Flailing and writhing followed in futile attempts to escape the half-hold. "Herman- I said that's not how this is gonna wo-..." He tried to complain, but was interrupted by the pinch. Eyes shooting wide open, he went rigid a moment in surprise... and it was followed by a very weak grin, though it wasn't one of happiness.

"I swear to god if you ever try to pinch my face into a smile like this again, your face is gonna meet my fist. Understood?" He tried to sound threatening, with his face partly smushed due to the pinch it was hard to. In fact, forming words was hard, it made his voice sound quite ridiculous. "Now, please, let me just go. This isn't gonna work. You can go use your songs to win some.. nice crab ladies or some shit."

Reluctantly Herman let go of Kane's pinched face. Giving the man a bit of distance. Truly this man must've been deprived of some quality entertainment for far too long in his life. In fact, Herman had only remembered one other person so hell bent on his own deepening dissatisfaction.

Herman glanced back at his shell, the beating had stopped a short while ago, and focused on some dew that had most likely fallen out of a tree and pooled in a crevice on his shell. He momentarily gazed at the reflection of himself before tightly balling his hand into a fist - no way he'd leave Kane so sad!

He quickly began up another beat against his shell, much more solemn this time, "Kane, life must sometimes feel down - " he began to sing in a low voice, " - like a heavy crown upon ya head."

Herman quickly showered a sincere smile at Kane, "But take it from me now - that's no way to be now. There's always a way ahead." A quick drum solo followed before he continued, "Let's be clear now - Let's hear from ya, "Wow!" - better than soul be so dead!"

Another obnoxious drum solo gave a pause in Herman's activities for poor 'ol Kane to respond.

Honestly, Kane was a bit surprised Herman had actually listened. He took advantage of this space, though, stepping back once and rubbing his arm lightly. "Um- thanks." He honestly felt bad for the guy, in a sense, for having to deal with him. Anyone else probably would've been happy to sing along with Herman, more than likely. He just.. wasn't that kind of guy anymore. A flash of guilt invaded his expression momentarily before he looked back up to his current company.

He was almost concerned he'd upset the poor crab as he noticed the lack of beat, but soon noticed it'd been picked up again and shook his head, sighing. He stared on in silence, his expression unreadable for a good moment as he studied the words and beat. It was.. quite rhythmic. But as stubborn as Herman was, Kane was too. And wouldn't bend so easily.

However, by the end of it.. a tiny grin had come to him, even a small chuckle. "Herman.. you're such a goofy kid. You know that?" He reached to pat his shoulder once more, whispering, "And that's a good thing. You have... so much determination, and so much potential ahead of you. I.. had that potential already. Had my life already. And it was always down."

He looked away after saying this, sighing heavily. He looked tired, more than anything. Of what, could be left to one's imagination. "What I'm saying is, it's too late for me. That's why I'm telling you, right now.. go out into the world. Spread this light you have with other people. They'll benefit from it. It's not too late for them."
