The power class gym, was something Steven was not likely to get used to anytime soon. Dummies set up for practise of all kinds, and other students being encouraged to use their powers. Steven was no exception. He had been instructed to try and focus on the combination of his powers. To try and create a cloud of steam that only enveloped one of the dummies. Precise control of that level though was difficult, and Steven was failing. He could create the steam easily, that wasn't the problem. It was balancing the right amount of fire to ice, in order to make a cloud a certain size.

Steven was starting to grow annoyed, he had been experimenting with his power in his own time. However he had focused on using them in different way, rather then focusing on perfecting the control of what he was already able to do. His annoyance was not being help by his powers themself either. The act of creating steam, required that he used more flames then cold. So while the he found some of his emotions fading away due to using the ice, the over use of his flames was making sure that his negative mindset would not be ignored.

Steven had been underestimating the amount of power in order to pull off the task, but as his frustration grew he started to slowly amp up the amount he was using. Still trying to hold back from using to much. It was then that he heard another student laugh. He didn't even know if it was at him, but the way he powers unbalanced him, made Steven take it personally. Normally Steven would have purposely, started to over use his cyro power in order to try and balance his mind out. However this time he didn't. He didn't know why but he lashed out. Not at the person who had laughed, but at the dummy. Using to little ice, and way too much flame. The dummy ended up on fire as Steven blasted it, leaving a large charred hole in its chest area. No doubt surprising some of the other people in the class, and likely annoying the teacher.

Whoever the student laughing had been, it certainly was not Aaron. Aaron had his own issues with the powers class gym, and they had very little to do with actually controlling his powers. He wasn't actually aware of most of his powers, but the ones he was unaware of were pretty much the passive ones that weren't really covered by this class anyways. The boy agreed that he should learn to control his strange transformation power, although he also thought that it was more a matter of controlling his anger. His other form on its own wasn't really dangerous unless he attacked someone who couldn't handle it.

So, changing into a clawed, sharp-toothed form while he was furious was a problem, especially since triggering it accidentally that way meant he would already be angry enough to fight. Aaron could also voluntarily transform. And that was where his issues came in. Theoretically, he could practice staying longer in that form, get a feel for his wings, even fly, but he was so new that his only time actually using this power, aside from being an involuntary usage, had been when he had discovered those horrible things about his father and killed him. And now, just being in that form for a few seconds was enough to bring up painful memories and emotions that were almost like flashbacks in intensity.

Frazzled and somewhat nauseous from the intensity of his feelings over just attempting to hold his other form, Aaron had not been paying much attention to anyone, not even the boy attempting to shoot steam clouds at the dummy next to his. He was just working himself up for another attempt, though, when said boy launched something at the neighbouring dummy that was definitely not just steam. Feeling the heat from the flames, he moved a few steps farther away before turning to look at the boy who had shot the fire.

Aaron hadn't actually been touched by the fire, but it was still a little close for comfort, seeing as he was standing close to his dummy, and the dummy on fire wasn't more than a few feet away. Calmly, he called out to the boy, "'Ey b'y! Be careful wit' t'at dere. I'se not a bit fireproof and t'ese dummies ain't either."

Steven hadn't really been paying attention to the others in the class, and hadn't notice how close another student was to the path of his flames as it slammed into the dummy. Until the nearby boy turned calling out for him to be careful. Steven was slightly taken aback by his uncontrolled actions. He knew that his power messed with his head, and should have known to be more careful in their usage. Even more so after the last time.

Steven inhaled deeply trying to force himself to calm down. Burning the dummy had helped him, blow off some steam, pun intended. However he still was finding it hard to calm down. Walking towards the dummy as well as the other boy, he knew that while he was still frustrated he couldn't get away with letting the dummy continue to burn. Pointing a finger at the fire he procceded to put the flames out by spraying them with ice.

"Better?" He asked in a cool tone not very politely due to the lingering annoyance even as the ice started to quell the fire inside his head as well. "Not the smartest place to be standing though." He added as if he wasn't the one at fault.

Having been halted in his transformation attempt by the boy's flame, Aaron was kind of relieved at the distraction provided. He was pretty sure that his classmate had not been shooting fire at the dummy from the start, so he felt a bit of sympathy. After all, this was a class for learning control, and the boy had at least hit his target. Aaron couldn't even use his power enough for that because of the bad associations.

He was also impressed at the easy way the other boy put out the flames. Perhaps he hadn't intended to shoot fire at his dummy, but his aim was certainly good with both elements. His power certainly seemed more interesting than Aaron's too. About the only thing cool about his own power was that he thought he might be able to fly if he could remain in his other form long enough.

The other boy was pretty good-looking too, tall and slender. And also surrounded with the reddish glow Aaron had been noticing a lot more lately. At least, he'd been paying attention to it more since he figured out it might be another power. Another boy might've been jealous, but Aaron was pretty laid-back about that kind of stuff. Besides, he enjoyed looking at attractive guys, so why would he be jealous?

Aaron noticed the rude tone, but he didn't take it personally. He thought his classmate was just annoyed at himself for accidentally shooting flames. "Yep!. T'anks b'y. Yer some good wit' yer powers, at least ya 'it yer dummy." He was a little taken aback when the boy said he shouldn't be standing where he was. Everyone in the class was standing next to a dummy, closer or farther as their powers required. "'Ey, now. Not everyone's got some range on t'em. Me powers are useful close-up. Ya wasn't after tossing fire around when I got 'ere neither." He, of course, didn't mention that he hadn't even got to the point where he could use the dummy.

Steven frustrations meant that he hadn't really taken in much about the other boy at first. Though as the boy spoke more, Steven dod pick up on the thickness of his accent, he couldn't place where it was from though. Steven annoyed attitude faded a fraction as he realised he was being compliment about his control of his powers. While he felt it was untrue, he wasn't one to dismiss praise out of hand. "Well good hand-eye coodination helps in part." Steven said a small explination that it wasn't purely control of his power to allowed him to be accurate, as the outburst showed to Steven himself that he really had to be more wary of how they impacted his emotions.

When the boy rightfully deflected blame over Steven comment about being in a bad place to stand, it left Steven with a sudden curiousity. While Steven obviously hadn't been paying much attention to other during his practise. Sub-conciously Steven hadn't really seen the what the other boy had been trying to do anyway, or really use the dummy. "What are you trying to do anyway?" He asked looking back to the charred dummy he had damaged, and then over to the untouched one by Aaron.

The accuracy, while fairly impressive, was not exactly what Aaron had been complimenting the other boy on. At least, not entirely. Although the hand-eye coordination involved in hitting the target wasn't something to ignore, Aaron had been struck more by the way the boy handled the elements, even just switching to ice and casually putting out his unintentional flames. Anyways, even accidentally setting the dummy on fire was better than the complete lack of any demonstration of his own power.

The power which Aaron had been so unsuccessfully attempting to use. Of course, the fact that he was failing to hold his transformation was more an emotional problem at the moment than a lack of control. He had no idea how long he'd be able to hold it if he could just get over his sort of mental block. But dealing with memories wasn't really covered in this class, and he didn't really feel like opening up to strangers about something so personal.

He'd hoped that the boy coming over and talking to him would give him a bit of a reprieve from thinking about his abilities and their use, but it seemed he wouldn't get what he had wished for. Of course, it did make sense that the other student would be curious about Aaron's powers seeing as he had kind of brought them up by saying that his were closer range. And this was a power control class, after all, where the whole purpose was basically how to effectively use your powers.

Aaron didn't really know what to say. He didn't want to admit to his troubles, so he decided to deflect a little. "Oh! I has nar need of that dummy right t'is second. Me powers are more fer transforming, I guesses ya'd say." That part was actually completely true. He had no need to mention that he could barely hold said transformation more than a couple seconds anyways.

Steven gave Aaron a look over, in response to him saying that his powers were some kind of transformation. He didn't look any different then, Steven had seen him in passing throughout the lesson. Perhaps the transformation were internal in nature? Steven thought to himself, giving the other guy the benefit of the doubt, that he wasn't completely failing to control his powers and instead thinking of a reason there wouldn't be any outward display of them. Well it was possible, that they meant something more along the lines of transmutation when they said, transformation but Steven tossed that idea aside as having a subject to test on like the dummy would have made sense if that was the case. Something Aaron directly said he didn't need.

"Well whatever it is, got to be better then accidentally burning the place to cinders." Steven said trying to make jest of his own prior mishap. "Unless you turn into a being of fire like the human torch." He added trying to make light of the whole conversation, so that perhaps his own actions could slip by and be forgotten now that they were talking.

Aaron was relieved that his deflection seemed to have worked. Or at least the boy's joking meant he was able to talk casually about powers without getting into too much detail. His transformation was at least contained, and as the other boy pointed out offhandedly, it was definitely better than burning the building to the ground. It was small comfort that at least he had only killed one person and not discovered an even more dangerous power, but it was something to think about. It made him wonder if there were others here who had found out about this school the same way he had or who had it even worse. That was a disturbing thought and not one he was ready to voice.

But now he wondered - this boy was around his age and he could set things on fire. How had he discovered this Island? How long had he been here to learn the control he had, which was obviously not a perfect control? Had he had accidents? Aaron wasn't generally one to overstress over things, even big questions like this, but he did push them back into his mind for further consideration. At the moment, he realized that he had never gotten the other boy's name or given his. He supposed they had both been distracted by the flaming dummy.

He shook his head and smiled a bit. "No fire 'ere. What's yer name by t'way? Mine's Aaron." He had pretty much forgotten the boy's actions. He hadn't figured them to be anything more than an accident and maybe some embarrassment anyways. Plus he was appreciating the little chat they were having.

Steven chuckled at how simply the boy dismissed the fact he had no relation to fire himself, in return to his comment before asking who Steven was and then introducing himself. It was a move away from the reason they had started speaking in the first place, something Steven didn't mind moving the conversation away from due to the fact he had been at fault.

"Rosett, Steven Rosett." He introduced himself in return to Aaron, putting out his right hand for a handshake in a traditional and polite manner. "It's good to meet you Aaron." Steven added with a nod and smile. Steven couldn't deny that he was still curious about the nature, of the Aaron's abilities and nature but wasn't going to press the issue.

"How long have you been here then?" Steven asked instead, he hadn't been here too long himself but he guessed that some of the students that were in his classes must have been on the island longer then he had. He doubted that many had such violent discoveries of their power as he had.

Aaron shook the offered hand firmly, but not aggressively so, and smiled back at the other boy. "Yeah, it's nice to meet ya too." He gave a small smirk at Steven's question. He'd gotten here so recently that practically everyone on the island had been here longer than he had, and he was pretty sure it showed. But then again he had no idea how long it usually took people to get a grip on powers they hadn't even known existed, so maybe it wasn't too obvious. The boy was glad that there were other people who were humans with powers and new to the island. As cool as all the mythical beings and magic creatures were, they were even harder to handle than something that could almost be shrugged off as just a very odd genetic quirk.

"As fresh off da boat as I is, I probably still smell like fish. Nar been 'ere more t'an a week. Just found out about - well t'is 'ole t'ing." He waved his hand vaguely around indicating either the island, himself, or both. "It was a right shock, I tells ya. 'Ave you been 'ere long t'en? 'Ow long did you 'ave to practice to be able to shoot fire like dat?" Aaron didn't really want to get into why he had been sent here, but he figured maybe he wouldn't be quite so embarrassed by his lack of control if the other boy had had to be here a long time to learn his.
