"Same old. Same old," Shay responded. "Something about not knowing why. I can't actually remember. He was puppy sad. Mostly because he wanted to be invited to my wedding, which I said suuuure to, but that you probably wouldn't like it. I expect you both to behave anyway. If I'm willing to kick him out, I'll do the same to you."

Then, Shay pointed at him and grinned. "Saying you didn't smuggle it in is making me think you did. Do you have a double life Fluffy?" She gasped and slapped a hand on each of her cheeks. "Are you really a secret agent? A spy? Or maybe you have a dark side? Are you going all Batman on us?"

She was walking backward now, beckoning him with her as the sound of the oven beeped. "I need to get the bread out if you don't want it to burn, Batman."

When they got to the kitchen, Shay grabbed an oven mitt to set the bread out to cool and began making Angelo a plate of food. "So, what's the thing do anyway? Besides shoot people, that is."

Angelo didn't deign most of Shay's wild speculation with an answer. He wasn't batman, and he didn't have a secret life. The most he said about it was, after securing the safe door and headed after her, one brief comment.

"If I had time to have a secret life between work and all the kids, that would be truly impressive," Angelo said, grabbing a seat in the kitchen.

It was kind of nice having someone cooking for him, even if Angelo had a growing suspicion that something was wrong. It was just very.. convenient. Unusual, for sure. It wasn't that Shay never visited, or never cooked, but normally there was some kind of reason behind it.

"Shuts down magic, basically. Gives me time to clear the distance."

"How do you know it actually works and you weren't ripped off?" Shay asked, which was just a long-winded way of asking if he'd tested it.

After she set out Angelo's plate for him, Shay made one for herself and stood across from him, rolling a scoop of spaghetti with her fork and shoving it in her mouth.

"Man, everyone gets cooler Scythes than me. At this rate, I'm going to have to find whatever divine force is deciding this and punch 'em right in the face."

Shay couldn't be certain this was Angelo's Scythe, but it felt the same way to her that Regis' had and a gun with weird magical properties? If she could have an umbrella why couldn't Angelo have a gun? Seemed a logical thing.

Angelo rolled his eyes at her obvious fishing for information.

"'Course I tested it. Pulled a magical artifact slated for destruction, filled out the paperwork, and tested it that way. But I don't think it's my scythe," Angelo said, entirely incorrectly, "Just something I bought so that I wouldn't be caught flat footed against a mage."

Shay snorted. "Okay. Fine. Suuuure. Friggin' Super Cop over here." Shay set her fork down and leaned forward on the counter, watching him wearily.

Shay could never determine if she liked Angelo's company or not. She'd always liked the normalcy of it but never felt she fit in amongst it. Maybe that was why she felt like she always needed an excuse when she met up with him.

God, going to a therapist was making her an introspective little shit, huh?

"Soooooo... I need advice. You might be happy to know, for once, it is completely normal advice. So don't give me that pained expression."

Angelo was skeptical. Really skeptical. But he watched Shay anyway, wondering what the hell she was going to ask about, because boy he sure didn't know the answer.

"Just in case you're expecting too much," Angelo pointed out. "I'm really only normal by comparison to the rest of the island. If I was in New York, I'd pretty much be the definition of not normal, so scale your expectations," Angelo said.

Really, if something was serious enough to ask him, Angelo felt... less than confident. What would she even want advice about? Relationships? Because if so, Angelo was fucked.

Well, that settled it. Angelo was fucked.

Shay smiled sheepishly at him. "I'm really nervous about all this wedding stuff. Nothing supernatural just..." She thought about the right method of putting it. "We both know I'm a fuck up. I guess I just don't see how I could have this, y'know?"

He really should have seen that coming. He'd been worried it was going to be about the gun, or Charlie, or who the hell knew what else, and instead he was getting asked relationship advice.

"Shay," Angelo said. "You're worrying too much. If you aren't certain, you can always pump the breaks and wait, but if you're just convinced something's going to go wrong because it always goes wrong, then... don't."

"Just don't? Maaaan, Fluffy, you might actually be worse at advice giving than me," Shay said slightly, poking at her food with little interest in eating any of it.

"I'm trying not to," she said more seriously. "You ever just felt like someone was so far outta your league you wonder why they ever stopped to take the time to even look at you?"

Angelo got up, stopping beside Shay as he tried to reassure her. No, he wasn't good at advice for things like this, but he could at least try, right?

"Shay, the guy I dated was a literal angel, so yeah, I know what you mean." A fallen angel, but that didn't really count in Angelo's mind. He had been pretty damned angelic.

"You deserve this, Shay. You've been through a lot, and now you're done - you're through. So you deserve this happiness."
