And let it flow...

Darren had said no.

Darien refused to listen.

So, that's why they found themselves outside, lost; a Chance with uncontrollable powers.

It was nearing midnight, the elder twin identified, raising his head to watch the eerie clouds pass over the silky crescent moon. The cold, biting air felt almost below freezing; but it was fall, of course it would be. Breezes were close to non-existent, Darien closed his eyes, completely silent, completely calm.

He liked the dark; it was serene, almost soothing on his nerves. It wasn't like the daylight, where the sun reveals all, all your funny secrets. Not only that, but it was colder at night, and his icy eyes accepted the ethereal glow of the moon warmly.

Still, Darren had argued: they would be putting themselves into danger going out at night. Who knew what kind of people might come- might meet them? The younger twin hadn't chosen a side of the war, and while he wasn't frightened of the Rebels (or Angels for that matter), he wanted to avoid any and all chances of death. After all, how would you survive?

But, Darien needed practice; and where better place to go than the lake, where the waters could freeze solid anyway (it would eventually). Darren reluctutantly agreed to guide him through a short practice session. But afterwards, they were going back to their dorm.

His shoes padded softly, quietly, as the breeze rustled the low trimmed grass. He treaded slowly to the watery surface.

'First, try to create a thin sheet of ice over the lake, the water would melt it even if you mess up.'

Darien nodded, kneeling, his hand brushing against the thin surface of the water.

Calm, calm, calm, calm, he repeated, eyes closed. Maybe if he released his energy just a little at a time...

'Darien, stop.' He stopped, freezing in his act. He could feel his brother shaking his head in annoyance, 'Did it occur to you that you can create ice from water and air? Don't just "let your energy flow." It'll mess up.'

'I'm not going to ask how you know so much about my powers...' Darien sighed heavily, closing his eyes again in concentration.

From air or water? Probably water-

'No- not probably. Water, from water. Don't be so indecisive. It'll get confused.'

Darien simply nodded to himself; alright, from water, let the energy flow.

'Like water,' he noted, amusedly.
