"Don't forget to put your things away before going to bed, okay?" Celeste said to Shale, ruffling his hair lovingly and giving the top of his head a quick kiss. "And no sneaking out tonight either, okay, promise me?" she said, regarding him now very seriously, not wanting him to slip out after she had gone to bed. Celeste knew that Shale sometimes went out for a walk at night, but with all the weird stuff going on lately, she had put her foot down about going out after dark and by himself.

When Shale promised he would stay in, Celeste smiled at him, gave him a quick hug, and left, closing his bedroom door after her. As soon as she shut the door though, she heard Shale turn on the music loudly in his room, and had to smile. Teenagers.

Heading down the stairs in bare feet, a fitted t-shirt and jeans, Celeste stopped to make sure the front door was locked, and then went to the kitchen, opened a bottle of wine and poured herself a glass of wine before heading into the front room to curl up on the sofa with a book, a murder mystery from a well-known author living on the island.

Roldan was spooked. This dirty cop stuff had shaken him up pretty bad, all things considered. And it had just been one guy punch after the other this week, with the mirror pool and then Narraine just showing up at his house with Iesha. Of course he was happy to take her in. Adopt her. But it was all sudden and it had dredged up a lot of feelings that he had tried hard to bury.

So you could forgive him if he let Iesha stay the night with a friend to... he wasn't even sure to be honest. Getting off of his shift, he'd gone home to play games and it had just been unsatisfying. And at the edge of his mind, the fear of those people going back and hurting Ms. Forestier or her son was tapping at him.

That was why he'd all the way to her house. Spent fifteen minutes or so patrolling from the air. Taking note of which officers were in the squad car. And why he was now knocking on her front door. Just a wellness check. He'd see that she was doing fine and it'd put his mind at ease.

Turning the page of her book, Celeste took a sip of her wine, a very nice Bordeaux that her niece had given her as part of her housewarming gifts. Hearing a knock at the front door, Celeste looked at the time. It was a little after nine. Late, but not super late. She wondered who it could be. Placing her glass on the table, she set her book on the sofa and wandered over to the front door. Peeking through the window first. There she saw the outline of a man standing there lit by the porch light, gazing curiously at him, she noticed the red hair and found herself smiling.

"One moment..." Celeste called out as she hurried over to unlock the front door and opening it wide. "Officer Roldan, I mean Drakenhardt." she said with a smile as she gazed at him wondering what he was doing at her front door at this hour, "Is everything okay?" she added as she glanced around just to be sure.

Roldan smiled and relaxed a bit when he saw that Celeste was okay. Seemed like she was relaxing, actually. "Evening, Miss Forestier. No, ah. Nothing's wrong. I just got off shift not too long ago. But I'm a worrier, so I figured I'd settle my own nerves and come see how you're doing."

He held up his hands, open palms, in a non-threatening way. "Unofficially, of course. Just a concerned citizen. Not a cop right now."

Celeste smiled at that, briefly looking over the officer, who was now in jeans and a t-shirt, and found herself nodding towards the house, "Why not come in for a bit? Roldan, was it?" she said standing aside and gesturing for him to come inside.

"I was just reading and enjoying a glass of wine. As you can hear, Shale is upstairs," she grinned as the music thumped in the background. "Oh, and please, call me Celeste, only my students or their parents call me, Miss Forestier." she said with a smile.

Roldan looked back over his shoulder, still wary but confidenc that nothing bad was happening. "I'd love to, if it's no problem."

Once inside, he nodded at the mention of Shale upstairs and stood near the doorway of the room she walked into, hands in his pockets. "Celeste, then. How have you been since the other day? Everything good out here, I assume?"

He assumed anyway, since she hadn't called. But his thoughts went back to the discussion he and Angelo had had before. About the possibility of dirty cops on her patrol route not reporting things.

Celeste shut the door behind Roldan, and walked into the kitchen living room area. "I have been well, uneasy still if I'm honest, but a little better than I was before I talked to you and Officer Genovese..." she told him as she walked over and picked up her wine glass of the coffee table.

"Sometimes though, I still think I hear things at night, somewhere outside or near the wooded area in the backyard, but, that's probably just me acting a little bit paranoid," she confessed, taking a small sip of her wine and looking at Roldan thoughtfully, "Can I get you a glass of wine, or I can make you some tea if you prefer?" she offered, remembering the last time he had visited.

He nodded, leaning more against the doorway and watching her. "Well I'm glad we could at least partially set your mind at ease. And wine would be great, actually."

He tentatively took a seat once he had his drink, kind of glancing around the house now that he could look at it in a less formal setting.

"What do you teach? I don't think I actually asked that before." It hadn't dawned on him that there was the distinct possibility that Celeste might be one of Iesha's teachers.

Opening a kitchen cupboard, Celeste got a wine glass down, inspected it to make sure it was clean - Shale often did the dishes - and sometimes things weren't as clean as they should be. Satisfied the glass was clean, Celeste poured Roldan a glass of red wine. Walking over to where he was sitting, she handed him the glass and stepped back to curl herself comfortably into the armchair across from him, her own wine glass in hand as she did so.

"Believe it or not, I teach Home Economics," Celeste said with a wide grin at his question, "which I know is somewhat ironic on an island where half of the students can basically just wave a hand and a soufflé appears out of mid-air."

Sipping from his glass gratefully, Roldan smiled and gave a nod off approval and thanks for the drink. "Cooking is an important skill. My oldest brother is a really good cook, so I took classes back in high school and college to try and keep up with him."

He smiled a bit wider and shrugged. "It helps out. Can't always rely on your powers for everything. Like my girl, she has special dietary requirements. Least I can do is make the food tastes good."
