An afternoon off

Caitlyn had the afternoon free of classes. She walked out onto the lawn hoping to run into someone she knew. She was getting tired of being alone here. She missed her family and friends back home. However, she felt a part of everyone here. People back home were different...they considered people like Caitlyn a freak. If she was a freak, at least here she was a freak along with everyone else.

Skye didn't know what to do with the rest of the afternoon. She didn't have many friends, and the friends that she did have had classes. Then she saw Caitlyn. She hadn't really talked to her, but she'd seen her. She walked up to her and said, "Hi, I'm Skye. You may have seen me around."

"Yea I've seen you around!" Caitlyn said, happy that Skye made the first move to be friends. Caitlyn was always unsure how to do that. She didn't want people to judge her, the way they did back home.

"Is this your first year here?"

"Yep, what about you?" Skye answered. She was glad that she was finally able to talk to people here without worrying. Here, no one thought that she was weird.

"Yea, me too. When parents told me about this place there was no stopping me from getting here," Caitlyn laughed. Skye was so easy to talk to. Caitlyn was starting to feel more and more at home here.
"So, what's your power?" Caitlyn asked, "My power is based around electricity. I have horrible problems controlling it though,"

"Well, I can fly, and move things with my mind. Except, I can't control moving things...today I hit Mrs. Kinta in the head with a pine cone." Skye laughed. Back at home, she couldn't talk about things like this without people labeling her an 'outcast'.

Caitlyn laughed. "I haven't even tried my powers since I got here. I'm afraid of people laughing, I guess." Caitlyn face turned red. "I'm hoping I can learn how to controll it before using my powers," Caitlyn sighed, "But I suppose the only way to do that is to practice."

"I'm afraid too, after the whole pine cone incident." Skye said truthfully. "Maybe we can practice together."

Caitlyn hesitated. Skye was not the kind of person who would make fun of her.
"I'd like that, Caitlyn said." Skye was just like her! Caitlyn could hardly contain her excitement.
"When should we practice?"

Kaytilin bounded across the lawn, looking for Skye. Finally she saw her, sitting at a table with Caitlyn Cadbury.
"Hi, Skye!" she said.
