ART OF AMIA BY PUDDINGZZ
species info
Indigo Children are a race of humanoids who are born with a genetic modification granting them supernatural abilities. Their defining feature is a mark similar to a bruise in size and color somewhere on their body, hence the name "indigo children". Almost any ability is possible, but the they have divided them into classes amongst themselves (https://sta.sh/0stoi9qdww7). Said abilities will usually begin to show themselves at around ages 8 - 13 due to the rise of hormones, although some may show earlier or later depending on the person. Indigo Children are discriminated against due to their abilities, and very often grow up in abusive homes because of this.

appearance
Amia usually looks very thin and malnourished, most likely due to her forgetting or downright refusing to eat or drink often. She's very lanky, with long arms and legs besides this. Her face is small and round, and her skin is very pale, to the point of porcelain. Her nose is small and flat, and her eyes are a piercing bright shade of ice blue. Her hair is snow white and extremely long, almost to her knees by now (around four feet of hair). She's learned overtime how to throw the whole thing up into a messy bun, but sometimes Eva will braid it for her. She has a very wide amount of scars; long dark lines criss crossing her limbs, torso and neck after 4 years of experimentation. She hates these for the reminders they bring up. Her indigo mark is behind her left ear.

personality
Amia is an extremely energetic and lively person, with a vivid and often overactive imagination. She tends to be very emotional about everything (but a lack of voice inflection may make this seem fake), and to have very strong and detailed opinions about things she considers important, even though these opinions can change in an instant. However, she tends to have trouble fully processing said emotions and expressing her opinions. She carries a deep love of learning, and can almost always be found writing or carrying around a new book. Animals are especially a favorite topic, and they bring her a great deal of comfort. She is truthfully much wiser than she at first comes off as, after 8 years of therapy and learning as much as possible. If she can form the words, she can give rather profound advice if prompted. She's grown very good at acting overtime, and can put up amazing emotional facades if she wants to defend herself. Her endurance levels are very high, and while she's not too adaptable she's very high in stamina, pain tolerance and agility. She also knows how to be extremely sneaky and good at lies if need be, which feeds a bit of a mischievous streak in her. Exploring is something she does quite a lot in her free time, and she genuinely loves to just run out to a new part of the world and get herself utterly lost.

Amia struggles with sudden, unforeseen mood swings as well as violent impulses and sudden bursts of anger. These have gotten better overtime with help, but they still occur and impair. She has trust issues and an intense fear of abandonment, as well as a fear of being touched and stared at. Because of these combined with her social impairments, she has a tendency to shut down completely in the presence of strangers or large groups. Despite her energy she displays a complete lack of interest in any form of socializing, and is heavily withdrawn. Eva and Jackie are her only friends. She experiences delusions of being able to see into and create other worlds, and that her knowledge is a portal to them. Oftentimes she won't eat because she thinks creatures from these worlds poisoned her food. Her sense of identity is practically nonexistent, and she tends to see herself as a monster unworthy of human interaction. Unfortunately she is very blunt, and has very little restraint when it comes to speaking her mind. While after 8 years of therapy it has improved significantly, Amia still will switch when exposed to stressful situations, including but not limited to extensive talk about her father, gore/violence, and prolonged exposure to children.

abilities
ACTIVE:
N/A

PASSIVE:
Amia’s ability allows her to morph her features (ears, hands, feet, mouth, eyes, nose, and often a tail) to look like any animal she wishes. Once she’s seen an animal, their image is imprinted into her mind, and she can use their features whenever desired. This includes gaining whatever advantages this animal may have such as increased strength, new metabolism, etc. However, at the moment said ability is extremely unstable. What animal she changes to depends very highly on her mood, and she tends to switch constantly throughout the day. Carnivorous changes can also have bad effects on her impulses and anger if she isn’t careful. It’s increasingly more difficult to transform the more complex the animal gets, and making physical contact with said animals makes it far easier to change and hold control. Her level of energy will also greatly effect her ability to transform and hold control. She does have a "default" form, aka a form that is most comfortable for her to remain in, and it is that of a black cat.

biography
(Warning for child abuse and torture)

Amia was the only child of Aiko and Harold Hart. Aiko was a caring woman, who sought to give her child as good of a home as she possibly could. Amy was born while Aiko was visiting family in Japan. However, she was ill at the time, and went into labor far before she was supposed to. Amia was born prematurely, and Aiko died in the process of birthing due to the aforementioned illness. Amy was left motherless, and her father was rushed over from another country.

Harold was a far different person from his wife. He was cold, cruel and sarcastic, with a tendency to care for himself over anyone else. But even worse, he was the head of an experimental facility attempting to test on and harm the Indigo Children. He had hoped for a boy and blamed Amy for Aiko’s death, so in the beginning he neglected her constantly and thought of her like a useless pest. But when she began to display traits of her ability at an extremely young age, Harold recognized what it must mean and started to see her as something more: a subject. He began to nurture her far more, planning to make her stable enough to perform tests.

Once Amia turned five not suspecting a thing, Harold decided he could begin. He packed a select few things, mostly clothing and a stuffed dog she wouldn’t let go of, and took her away to his private lab. From there, it began. Amy was put through horribly strenuous mental, emotional, and physical tests in order to stretch her ability’s development and see how much she could be forced to endure compared to normal humans. She was horrified, but whenever she attempted to fight back she was punished. Her raven black hair turned pale white, and her deep brown eyes lightened to an icy blue.

For three years Amy was under his care, forced into being an obedient test subject, and all while being told he loved her. His abuse and surveillance caused her to develop DID and scopophobia among other things. An alter in the system existed to protect, and their influence caused the eventual escape. Sometimes there were extended periods in which there were no tests, and the longest yet of these was during the month before her eighth birthday. During this month she forced herself to gain her bearings, hoping it would finally be over. When Harold final came in saying he had developed a new test for her birthday, Amia completely panicked. A persecutory alter fronted, her ability activated and she attacked him with everything she had, her features morphing to that of a lion’s. She had gone into a blind rage, and by time she stopped it was too late. Using pure power and anger, she had killed Harold.

Harold had managed to press a button on his phone to call for help before dying. Two hours later, three of his colleagues arrived to find a terrified Amia curled up on the ground by his body. They immediately captured her since she was now too dizzy to fight back, and kept her locked down in solitary confinement before deciding what to do with her. The scenario soon ended up reaching the Indigo Children Society (a group dedicated to rescuing abused indigos), who immediately took up a battle to rescue her. After a year of this they at last succeeded, and she was taken under their care

At last, life began to get better for Amia. At first she was terrified, and wouldn’t let anyone touch her or talk to her without lashing out. But, the caretakers slowly eased her into their presence and assured her she was safe now. They began to take care of her, and she started communicating more with them. As time slowly moved on they began to talk with her, identify different alters, and help control her impulses and mood swings. Amia eventually discovered she was allowed much freedom here, and could learn so much more about the world she was never allowed to know. She developed an extreme thirst for learning, absorbing as much information as she possibly could. She began learning more about using her ability as well, and developed extreme interest in both her own and those around her. At age 17 she received a letter from the island, and left the ICS to come live there. However, having received her education at the ICS and being accompanied by two friends, she did not apply at the academy. She is much happier with her life by now, and is a healthier, more functional person than she once was.

resources
Amia has access to housing, food, clothing, and a montly allowance due to it being provided by the ICS.

additional info
Having DID, Amia has a total of 4 alters she might switch to when triggered. "Amy" herself is the host alter and handles the majority of daily life, but there is also Josiah (a persecutory alter who protects the others through violence), Mei (a child alter who holds traumatic memories), and Leila (a caretaker who cares for other alters when they're vulnerable).
