Fehralyn was a warrior. She had been up against countless enemies and made all of them bleed. She had been before thousands of soldiers and struck both fear, respect and inspiration in their hearts. She had shaped young minds and taught them the way of war and conflict. She had read all the books in the imperial library, half of them twice.
Fehralyn was nothing but qualified to teach a classroom full of teens, both ready and not ready to learn.
But despite all that why was she unsure?

Naturally Fehralyn didn't show her nervousness, as she made her way down the hall in the academy. She knew better than to show weakness before those that had all the power to judge her and crush her spirit. But inside she was going through her course plan like it was a battle tactic, analyzing weak spots and putting in different scenarious and seeing how flexible it was. Fehralyn's plan was, to her opinion, perfect. Perhaps it had slightly too many details, but they were there to assure she was ready for anything.
Now Fehr only needed to find the classroom.

Fehralyn kept her eyes on the doors and signs above them, that indicated the numbers of the rooms. Fehralyn's class was 1306. Her class wasn't in another few hours, but she had checked that the class was empty. Fehr wanted to scout the battlefield, so to say, and check the positions of the seats and from what part of the room her voice carried best. Basic things, really.
Out of ever developing habit Fehr moved her hand to cover her stomach, when someone accidentally bumped into her and apologized.

Fehr arrived on the door to classroom 1306, and she opened the door without reservations. Only to find a foreign older gentleman by the teacher's desk. Fehr frowned slightly, leaned to check the room number and saw it indeed was 1306.
"Excuse me, this is room 1306, am I correct?"
Fehr asked the older man, she distantly remembered her from her first briefing, he was a teacher as well.

Noel Sinterklass, a teacher of ancient mythology, was just tidying up after his last class. Placing props and costumes in a large cardboard box. His class had been studying life in ancient Mesopotamia and how it affected people's beliefs. In fact, the class had become so interested in the concept that they had decided to attempt some roleplaying with props and the like.

An activity that had engrossed everybody, even the ones who were quiet and rarely participated in group discussions. Everybody had played their parts well, traded their views and sold their wares and basically had fun while learning... And because of this, the class had ended up running right to the buzzer with no time to clean or put stuff away.

Not wanting to spoil the good mood or get anyone in trouble by being late for their next class, Noel had offered to tidy up the classroom himself. Besides, he had a free period afterward and knew the class would be empty for the next hour or two. There was time to put everything away - or so he believed.

As he placed an item away, he heard a young woman's voice asking about the room. Glancing then at her, taking in her silver hair and noting it was the new teacher on staff, he smiled at her warmly.

"Miss Daidel, hello. How are you this fine day?" he said as he greeted her politely, "And, yes, you do have the right room. Though I didn't think your classes started until later this afternoon?" he said, knowing that the two of them would often share classrooms since their subjects were both humanities related.

Miss Daidel. Was Fehr going to have to get used to being called that? She didn't enjoy being called miss, or missus, or ma'am or anything of the sort.
"Please, call me Fehralyn or Fehr. We are colleagues, after all."
Fehr said and stepped properly into the room and took a quick look around. It was smaller than she had expected.
"And I'm fine, thank you. You are...Mr. Noel Sinterklaas, correct? You teach ancient mythology. It's nice to properly meet you."
Fehr walked closer to Noel and offered her hand for a handshake.
"I'm sorry if I interrupted anything, I merely wanted to see the classroom and set up before my first class."

"A pleasure to meet you, Fehralyn, and please, do call me Noel," the old god remarked pleasantly as he shook her hand warmly and greeted her. "Mr. Sinterklaas, well, he wasn't my father," Noel smiled, his eyes twinkling, "But I am sure there is one somewhere, and he'd be very surprised if he were related to me," he joked.

"Last names, they are a funny thing, aren't they?" he said he said to Fehr, "It's just an addon to a name to help people identify them better. In fact, in old times, my times, people didn't have last names... they were just Noel, the baker's boy, or Sara the banker's wife..." he said as he packed up his box.

"Actually, not at all, I was just cleaning up. So definitely not interrupting anything," he stated as he looked at her, noticing now her slight belly and cocked an eyebrow curiously, not sure if he should ask the obvious questions or not. He didn't want to offend her if she didn't want others to know or talk about it.

This man was friendly, very friendly and warm, as was his handshake. Fehr could've almost described him as jolly, and she automatically answered his smile. Although when Noel started talking about father's and...him(?) Fehr looked at him with a confused expression. But she lost her chance to ask what he meant before he started explaining about last names. That moved the conversation away from Fehr's confusion, at least for now.
"I have never dwelled in the intricacies of surnames, but I do know they are necessary. Without them history would have countless Johns or Marks or Davids that left their mark in developing the current way we know the world, but we would have no ways to give them credit."
For a moment Fehr wondered why she was debating surnames.

Fehr did not miss the eyebrow, and she could see the shade of curiosity in Noel's energy as he looked at Fehr's stomach. She sighed internally, she was appreciative of the tact people had around the subject. But Fehr was eventually starting to grow tired of people treating her and her pregnancy like they were made of porcelain. Fehr was a soldier, or she used to be, and she was anything but fragile. Both body and mind.
"Can I help you with that? Like you said, I still have some time before my class, I'm in no hurry."
Fehr asked, although she was quite sure that Noel was going to refuse her. That wouldn't hurt Fehr's pride, and it could also give Noel the chance to make assumptions about her being pregnant. Fehr had considered just outright saying it, but she wanted to avoid being rude to a colleague.

Noel just smiled kindly at Fehralyn and shrugged almost imperceptibly. He had lived long enough that he had seen time erase the names of even the greatest people of their era; seen them disappear into the realm nothingness where they and their names were forgotten by those that came after them. Time was a cruel entity,

"Maybe, who knows Fehralyn.." he said, not wanting to quarrel or seem like he was being impolite, "I have lived way too long, perhaps," Noel remarked.

When she asked if he could help him, Noel glanced around the room. Everything was almost cleaned up except for a few odds and ends. "Maybe you could clean off the blackboard for me or put those books on the shelf over there?" he suggested politely as he continued to put things in a box.

Fehr couldn't say she wasn't surprised, when Noel did give her the chance to assist him. Well, she couldn't say if it counted as assisting, but Fehr would do any small task if she was the first one to offer help. Especially since these days no one let her help with anything slightly physical because of her...state.
"Gladly."
Was all Fehr answered before getting to work. She went to the blackboard and wiped it clean with efficient, long movements. Her stomach bumped against the board when Fehr reached up to wipe the very top of the blackboard, leaving a white stain on his black shirt where her stomach was.

Next Fehr went on and put the books on the shelf as asked. That she finished quickly, since the books were in a simple alphabetical order by the author's last name.
"There we go, all done. You are welcome."
Fehr turned and sent a small nod and smile at him.
"Also, just so it can stop bothering me, yes, I am pregnant."
Fehr said suddenly as she approached Noel again.

"I do apologize," Noel had the good graces to say, "I am never quite sure what to say sometimes. Some women are more than happy to talk about their pregnancy while others become offended if you ask," he explained sheepishly, although relieved and very glad to know that she wasn't in the latter group.

"When are you due?" Noel asked her politely, genuinely interested in knowing a little bit more about Fehralyn and her unborn child.

Upon Noel's apology Fehr shook her head and set her own equipment on the teacher's desk.
"There is no need for you to apologize, when you were simply being considerate. My pregnancy is just a fact, soon enough it will be so clear people won't need to even ask anymore."
Fehr smiled slightly and opened her battle pla-, I mean, course plan, which was a folder that was thicker than any law book.

"I'm due sometime in next year's May or June. Although I cannot be entirely sure."
Fehr answered. She was 5 months pregnant, but her kind usually carried their offspring about a year compared to the 9 months humans carried. Although Fehr's child was half god, thus the uncertainty.

"So you still have a ways to go yet," Noel said as he mentally counted off the months, realising then she'd not be due for at least another five, even six months or so.

"Do you know if it's a boy or a girl? And have you chosen any names yet?" he asked curiously, always a bit fascinated by how people came up with names for their children. Before, he had just assumed people named their children something they liked or because they wanted to carry on a family name, but now, there seemed to be a whole thing behind naming conventions that hadn't existed decades ago.
