"Put you in your place? My concerns about your organization were legitimate. I've seen too many with good intentions get buried by those with bad ones. And, you might remember, you entered my home to tell me how I was perceived by the community that I worked for decades to help."

Pietro circled Natasha slowly, his every movement unnaturally graceful to the point that even the swaying of the loose sleeves of his coat seemed intentional. His smile never faltered as he came around in front of her again, stopping to lock eyes with her. "I have to say, that hurt quite a bit. Being told that despite all my best efforts, apparently everyone spoke ill of me behind my back."

Leaning forward, Pietro invaded Natasha's personal space to the point that their noses were nearly touching. This wasn't too strange however, as many people were dancing close or whispering to one another intimately. "And even if I had wanted to put you in your place, Miss Lockwood, where exactly is your place, hm?"

"As I do recall, I said, "some people" and not "everyone," Natasha remarked coolly, her tone defensive when Pietro made a point of reminding her of the huge disaster that had been their very first meeting.

"And I did not mean to offend you," she told him, immobile. "It's certainly not my fault that you prefer to act behind the scenes and any investigation I did surrounding island policies your name rarely came up," she continued rather indignantly, now watching Pietro like a hawk as he circled and locked eyes with her.

Natasha was now guarded, her whole body alert. She instinctively knew that Pietro was, despite his charming smile, most likely pissed off with her and an angry vampire was not something she wanted to contend with this evening. Especially since she prided herself on knowing men well, and she was sure Pietro was not one who forgave and forgot easily.

"I have no idea what you mean, Mr. Popov," Natasha stated very stiffly, her cheeks a very pale pink, as she deliberately pretended to not to understand what he was hinting at even though it was quite clear what he meant.

"My place is where I chose it to be," she retorted quietly as she defiantly held Pietro's gaze, noticing that he was standing way too close to her than what she would consider friendly or comfortable.

Pietro bit his lower lip as he watched Natasha grow pink in the cheeks, making a soft, satisfied grunt at the mild warm scent of blood that flared up with the blush. What a lovely color she was wearing all of a sudden. "My my, Miss Lockwood. You seem to be getting a bit flustered."

Pietro fluttered his eyelashes bashfully at her, looking every bit the cherubic virgin he had been turned into a vampire to maintain. Not even his age charm could hide that. "You're not afraid of little old me, are you?"

"Even so," he continued, still close enough that she could definitely smell the cinnamon and cloves on his breath, a means to cut through the pure coppery scent of the blood he was drinking, "you are correct. Your place is wherever you choose to be. And you chose to be here, in my establishment. I'm flattered that you apparently think of me highly enough to visit."

"I am not afraid of you, Mr Popov," Natasha said, her eyes flashing with defiant anger, annoyed that he would presume that she was.

"And I am here not because I think as highly of yourself as you obviously do..." she replied haughtily. Pietro's attitude and the way he could read her, obviously flustering her more than she wanted to admit.

"I came because I was curious," she admitted as she tried to take a step backward. She desperately needed some distance between them; Pietro's closeness was affecting her more than she'd like to admit.

"Nothing more than that," she lied. Natasha had come because yes, she was curious but also, she had intended to congratulate the ex-minister on his endeavor, wish him luck, and try to mend fences.

"Curious?" Pietro grinned softly as Natasha stepped back, pleased that he still had the ability to get under people's skin like that. "What are you curious about, Natasha?" He let her name roll off of his tongue, side stepping closer to her again to keep up the subtle pressure and discomfort he was giving her.

"Has your curiosity been sated? Is there any way I can help clear up whatever you're wondering about?" Coy and coquettish, he took one last, long drink of his snifter and set it down on a passing serving tray.

"Dammit, Pietro," Natasha swore in Russian, frustrated as she took another step, this time to the side as she tried to keep some distance between them. "You are infuriating, and so bloody full of yourself," she told him, her hackles up.

"I was curious about the club, not about you or anything else you think I should be curious about," she told him quite pointedly as she coolly and angrily raked her gaze over him dismissively.

"I didn't say you had to be curious about me, Natasha," Pietro quipped back with his teasing tone. "This club is mine, so I am fully capable of answering any questions you have about it."

He kept his distance this time, letting her breathe for a moment. Instead he gestured out to the high vaulted ceiling and blacked out stained glass windows. "This was a cathedral made in the French Gothic style. I had the entire place scrubbed of religious iconography and had the main chapel thoroughly desecrated to ensure that it no longer serves it's original purpose. For all intents, this is just any other building. I did keep the organ, moving it upstairs. It's a nice centerpiece for one of the private rooms."

Natasha just shot Pietro an exasperated and rather baleful look. She was just now realising that the bastard was enjoying himself thoroughly by deliberately taunting and toying with her. Making it seem like she misunderstood any lewd or loaded comment that he threw her way.

"I am very aware that you had to scrub the cathedral and remove any religious iconography association with it," she stated. "The MCSS is in an old 16th-century church remember?" she pointed out as she glanced up at the ceiling.

"Although just getting the place unconsecrated would have allowed you to keep the frescoes and the stained glass," she stated as she quickly snatched a glass of blood from a passing waiter and took a much needed sip. Lord, she really needed a drink, the wine was not cutting it. Not if she had to deal with Pietro, the very grown up L'Enfant terrible, any longer tonight.

"Ah that's true, but keeping the stained glass windows would have offended my sense of taste. I plan on having them replaced with something more sensual, but still done in the original style. They'll be double paned with an internal block to keep out actual sunlight to keep my patrons safe."

Pietro noticed Natasha grabbing a glass of blood and smiled softly at her. His thumbs slid into his pants pockets as he looked around at the windows. "The Catholics have style, but I couldn't in good conscience keep the images of Saints overlooking a den of... you said self indulgence and sybaritic pleasure, I believe?"

Natasha, who had, funnily enough, grown up in a time of religious tolerance, just shrugged indifferently. She had no real feelings on the subject. Catherine's court had seemed almost devoid of piousness compared to Europe. Her empress had been more of a woman of the sciences and great learning than bowing to priests.

"The Catholics did have style, but I don't see why angels and cherubs looking down upon you should be a problem in a "den of sin"... unless of course, you are the devil yourself, Mr. Popov," Natasha quipped, her tone mirthful as she looked at Pietro innocently.
