For those with powers, Altus was the Last Safe Place. Located in a Realm beyond the Earth, Altus Institute was where 'strange' teenagers could come to be with their own kind. Within its walls, the students of Altus were safe. That is, until an Ancient Evil awoke, beyond the school boundaries. It is everpresent, and has turned many students towards its own goal - to enter the school. For it cannot enter the school while the Crystal Gem is within its walls.
