When Chester finally clued in to who she actually was, Celeste smiled at him warmly. "It was a Midsommar Charity ball and it was fresh lavender that time," she said as she removed her cotton gloves and placed them in her pockets.

"Your parents were invited to one of the Del Bosque's midsummer parties. My father likes to celebrate or keep up the old ways that are sacred to druids or have a magical significance of some sort," she explained as she stared wistfully for a moment at the plants around them.

Looking at Chester again, Celeste shook her head and waved away his apology. "No need to apologise. I totally understand how controlling our families can be," she said as she gestured for him to walk with her for a bit, adding that he could call her whatever he felt most comfortable with.

"Funnily enough ... It was also my mother, Celine, who was the controlling one. She always wanted me to marry rich, become like her ... a bored socialite," Celeste reminisced as they strolled among the budding greenery.

Noting the past tense in which Celeste spoke though, he returned his curiosity, “From the sounds of it, you managed to wrestle up some freedom though. Do you like being a teacher? Or do they still order you around for ‘the family business’” He air quoted.

Strolling alongside her, he held out his hand like a child, to brush over various foliage as they walked. Giving an understanding chuckle to their shared experiences Chester shook his head of crazy hair.

“I’m glad that aside from being controlling, my family has pretty much written me off. Being the youngest, and … well the least in health, I’m pretty sure I don’t see betrothal anywhere in my future. For the most part I’m left to my devices.” Counting it among one of his more edged blessings, he elaborated minimally.

“Aside from having to agree to basically having a babysitter and go where I’m told, I at least get to do as I please. As long as it’s not embarrassing them or hurting anyone. Any family business responsibilities have mostly been divvied between Lizzy and Arthur. I basically get an allowance so long as I keep quiet and behave.”

Feeling that bitterness return to his tongue, he paused long enough to admire some nice buds on the verge of blooming. Their scene already pretty fragrant.

Here Celeste nodded at Chester's astute observation. "Yes... I did finally rebel and break away. Unfortunately, I did what many girls do. I ran off and got married the first chance I had," Celeste confessed as she looked at Chester before continuing.

"It was a complete disaster as you can guess... My first husband found out I was a witch and divorced me almost on the spot..." she said with a sigh remembering what a disaster that had been.

"After that, my mother kinda stopped speaking to me because I had chosen to tie myself down to a man who was beneath me," she explained, her tone somewhat bitter.

"Luckily, my father was more understanding, and he opened his arms wide to me and helped me find a teaching job in France," she explained as they walked under a trellis.

"And no. My family doesn't order me around. I came here to check up on you because I wanted to., not because I was ordered to..." she confessed as she tucked a lock of stray hair behind her ear, the fire opal in her engagement ring catching the light as she did so.

"In fact, I have little to do with the family business actually. All that now falls on my niece, Zoraida. She's the one who has that to contend with all the stress of maintaining the family reputation," she explained as she looked at Chester with compassion, understanding his plight.

Sitting down on a wooden bench. "Why do you say they have written you off? Now you can marry who you want if you want to... and do whatever you want without having to be worried about family," Celeste reasoned.

As Celeste took a seat, Chester found himself entering very tepid waters with the subject centered to all his insecurities. It was an extremely touchy subject that was both controversial and complicated in nature. Slowing his pace to a full stop and hanging back, he crossed one arm, gripping the other. Downcast eyes, he felt his jaw tightening and his stomach churning, his throat closing up the moment he tried to form words.

Immediately his walls began throwing themselves up as his instinct was to either snidely laugh it off or rudely snub the topic. But as this was both a family friend and a professor, both actions seemed inappropriate. So he stood suspended in silence struggling for the next action. Etiquette successfully trapping him. She was kind and seemed quite sincere but even if they had met before, not even his therapist could make him talk.

“I….I….” He licked his lips trying to moisten his throat.

“Thank you.” He spoke slowly and carefully, trying to steady his turbulent emotions. “For the uh… treats, tour and t-talk. Uhm… I’m sorry. I uhhh hhhhhave homework.”

Nodding and sucking in a deep breath he turned away, “I-I’ll see you in class. Ms. F. uhm… G-Good Afternoon.”

Then he did what he always did, and made his escape. Shuffling along hurried, hoping to get back to his room as quickly as possible with as little resistance.
