The beachside property of the Zoraida del Bosque, one of the witches of the Del Bosque clan and owner of Woodland Imports, had been transformed in a beautiful yet eerie gothic wonderland to celebrate the pagan festival of Allhollowstide - a four-day event that generally started on October 30th, Gate Night (the eve on which it was said the gates to the underworld started opening) til November 2nd, All Souls Day.

Normally, the whole Del Bosque family would celebrate the four days by inviting other witches, elves, and other magical guests to partake in festivities that included music and games, dancing, seances, fortune telling as well as magic and druidic rituals that dated back before early Christianity.

However, this year, due to a number of unforeseen events like the unfreezing of the Dark Crystal Academy and the people who were at the school at the time, the family has decided to cut back on the duration of the celebration to a twelve-hour event that has started October 31 and goes to the early hours of November 1st.

(This is an open thread that anyone can join. There is no posting order, so feel free to jump in whenever you want. Masks** and costumes are encouraged, but not required.

An FYI ... there is food and drink as well as music and games. There are also places to sit and small fires placed strategically along the beach using a magical fire with flames that do not burn.

**Masks were typically worn because it was believed that the spirits of dead loved ones (and not so loved) came back to the earthly realm the eve of the 31st, and so to avoid being recognized by these spirits, people would wear masks after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits.)

Dressed in a simple but fitted dark blue velvet dress with bell sleeves as she lighted the last few candles on the tables and on the veranda overlooking the ocean, Zoraida hadn't bothered with her mask. She was much more concerned with making sure everything was set up properly for the evening.

"Hey, there," Celeste said as she laid a hand on her niece's arm. "Let me help you out," she said as she looked around quite impressed at how much her niece had done to replicate their last proper Allhallowstide - which was a few years ago.

"It's okay," Zora said as she kissed her aunt on the cheek in greeting. "I am almost done anyways," she told her, noting how nice Celeste looked in the dark red fitted dress with a matching mask that she had chosen for tonight's party.

It had been long, since Serena witnessed the more classical interpretation of what became "Halloween". Her dress was something that was common for girls in villages of times now gone, a short mantle pinned to her pink dress, an apron covering the front of said dress and a yellow pouch hanging just above the ribbon tied around the waist.

Her face however had been concealed, save for her eyes and ears, by an owl-themed mask, white with light gray feathers around the eyes. Her eyes had been set on the sky the moment she had arrived. Did Serena expect to see something? Or was she thinking about something else? It was then when her heavenly blue eyes glimpsed Zora and Celeste.

"Oh, fancy meeting you here. Has been long since I have witnessed an All Hallows' Eve as I remember."

Celeste smiled at the newcomer in greeting before she pecked Zora on the cheek and excused herself. "Welcome to our Hallows Tide event. I need to make should sure everything is set for the smudging ritual," she explained before she left.

"That was my aunt," Zora explained when Celeste had left, giving Ilia a warm and welcoming smile.

"And yes, welcome. I am glad to hear you appreciate the old ways. They are dying so quickly.... the Del Bosque family makes a real effort to maintain the Samhain rituals," Zora told the young woman.

"By the way, I am Zoraida del Bosque," she said extending her hand in greeting,

"Please, inquire me if I may be of any help.", and Serena gave a deep bow to Celeste before she left the scene, and Zora has soon become the focus of her attention. "Your aunt, I see... She got quite the energy.", it is not unusual for her to see people so lively, but always was satisfying.

"It's concerning indeed, that traditions are fading to time, but as long as at least one remembered it will never be gone. So is the everlasting fate of all that can be bound to memory: to persist.", there was a hint of a joy from the past in her tone. Shaking hands with Zora, she too introduced herself "Ilia Seirín, aspiring healer. But Serena is also how I like being known."

"Celeste is all energy," Zoraida smiled at the girl's observation. "She has recently adopted three kids, teaches full time at the school, and tutors magic on the side."

"Serena, very nice to meet you," Zora said, pronouncing her name as a Spanish speaker who speaks English might.

"And you are quite right - as long as a few believe in them, traditions will never really disappear, the same with magic or anything really..." she mused, quite happy that someone else shared the family's belief.

"Would you like something to drink?" Zora offered as she leads Serena to a table of refreshments.

"That is a level of energy I have not witnessed in the outer world in my nearly century and a half period of existence! Surprising to levels I fail to describe.", there was indeed some hint of surprise to Serena's tone. Humans of the modern world seemed to not have as much energy as they used to, at least in her eyes. And since she had been learning about this island, there was so many energetic people to see...

The power of belief, and persistence of memory. Something so "mundane", yet so powerful... "And I too shall carry on the memory and belief of another. My mother's, more specifically.", perhaps this is why she chose to have an owl mask? Wisdom?

"A drink... I feel like having something that will warm me up, but not specifically hot, you can surprise me however you wish too.", an innocent giggle followed those words.

"Alright then," Zoraida said as they approached the table and explained exactly what she wanted from the person who was attending the refreshments table.

After a short fashion, they were each presented with a warm lightly alcoholic drink that was creamy, sweet and fragrant with spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg and that invoked feelings of comfort that were also slightly nostalgic.

"One of the family's own drinks, "Heart Folly"," Zora said as she handed Serena her drink. "My grandmother created it for Samhain years ago," she explained as she took a small sip of the delicious brew.

Shiro would slip in, adjusting her mask, her tail swishing a little behind her as she quickly glanced around. She loved parties, this one may of been a little different but it seemed like it'd still be fun. Her cat like eyes quickly landed on Celeste and a girl, zipping up to them she'd poke her head between them to look at the drink table.

"Heyo," she'd say with a grin, she still didn't feel great but the festivities had put her in a good mood. "That looks good," she'd say, looking at the drink.

Looking back to the table she eyed the different drinks. "Celeste, which is the strongest and which is the sweetest?"

Celeste was setting out a few baskets of freshly cut herbs and wildflowers on the table when Shiro appeared.

"Well," she said as she gazed at all the bottles of spirits on the table. "The strongest might be the Ouzo or the Orujo, both types of European liquors similar to firewater. And the sweetest might be elderberry wine," she said pointing to a rose-colored bottle.
