![]() Aithne is a woman standing at 5'5" and with Egyptian features. Her skin is on the darker side, but notably her hair is a bright mixture of red, orange, and shimmering gold. Each strand is tipped with a subtle purple hue. Paired with orange eyes, this has gotten Aithne plenty of attention in her homeland. In the normie world, it is believed that she dyes her hair and wears contacts. Aithne's eyes are boxed and angled upward; she has thin eyebrows that arch, high cheek bones, and a swooping nose that is most noticeable when looking at her profile. While they're often overlooked, Aithne does have a light dust of freckles along her face, neck, and chest. Her hair is long, falling to her mid-back, and curls naturally. It becomes redder, with specks of shining golden, when she is more emotional, but naturally, falls on the side of orange any other time. Aithne's hair is her pride and joy, and as such she keeps it well maintained. Soft as silk, always smelling clean, and very shiny. Aithne is pleasantly warm to the touch, as though she has just crawled out of a hot bed, her hair is hotter than the rest of her. Despite this, Aithne can usually be seen in thick winter wear, even in the midst of summer. She particularly fancies feather and fur shawls. Under the clothing, Aithne would not usually be defined as slender. Her curves are prominent, and her body is on the thicker side. This gives her that full hourglass figure, with large hips and a large bust. Like the rest of her, Aithne's voice is strong and rich, falling on the end of the alto scale. She always smells like the fresh embers of a campfire -- smoke, forest, and burning branches. ![]() Without a dense coat of flame igniting her, Aithne's Phoenix form (the one she considers to be more real) is comprised of black and deep purple plumage. There are feathers on her tail longer than the rest, and they move like one might imagine streamers to do so. While many say the Phoenix is similar in appearance to an eagle, Aithne resembles a swan more than anything. From her body shape to her long neck. She has a few spines on her head, and her eyes retain their orange color. Surprisingly, the inside of her mouth is orange as well. Aithne remains 5'5" even when in this form, with a wingspan of approximately 8ft. When she burst into flame, she has an outer glow of purple. FLAME FORM![]() “Forget what we became, what matters is what we've become, and our potentials to overcome.”

![]() Aithne is direct and somewhat nosy. She likes to help people, but she struggles to empathize with most mortal problems. She was never mortal, and therefore cannot understand most of their struggles. Her advice can come off brutal. She's the type of woman that would tell you to do something difficult as though it were the simplest thing in the world. If you care to dig beneath the strange apathy she's forced to give off to keep her powers in check; it becomes apparent that Aithne is genuinely a kind person. She derives joy from helping other people. All that said, Aithne gets just as much pleasure from destroying her enemies. Her freedom is more important to her than anything else in the world and for those who attempt to steal it, she shows no mercy to them. While she may come off reserved, Aithne loves to have fun. She loves playing and running around. Exploring is by far one of her favorite activities. At her heart, she is an adventurer -- someone who adores seeing everything the world has to offer and is willing to try everything at least once. She is always on the move, mentally, emotionally, and physically. It's hard to keep her dedicated to one thing for any extended period, and this translates to near everything in her life. Stable sources are rare and somewhat uncomfortable to Aithne. She treasures all forms of creative expression and is commonly in the park or school courtyard playing a tune or dancing. For someone with such a love of people and crowded places, Aithne prefers to do things on her own. She'd rather go to the theater or a local event without any company or group to talk to. While she is capable of multi-tasking, she doesn't prefer to, especially no when she's on an adventure. Aithne takes her job very seriously and is always finding enjoyable ways to spice it up without breaking the rules. She wouldn't consider herself a rule breaking or follower, but then, Aithne wouldn't describe herself with any label. She just is as she is and finding words that describe her is something she has long since deemed impossible and a waste of time. She can't understand why people need to quantify everything or why humans wish to make everything simple, to understand it fully. She can't see why someone would fear something in the unknown. These are mortal things, and Aithne finds them quite laughable, and sometimes she even says as much. For the most part, Aithne could be considered outspoken, but she only says as much as she thinks is worth giving. If she feels someone won't listen, or she can't offer them the help they need, she will move onto other things. After all, her time is precious and why should she waste it? Or their's, for that matter? Generally speaking, making an enemy of Aithne is as hard as making friends with her. She's never quite grown up past the stage where children play next to each other, rather than with each other. She is easily irritated when disturbed and has the tendency to be testy without meaning to. Close friendships are a bit of a bother to her, so she abstains from creating them. There is no direct reason for this, as Aithne doesn't fear vulnerability or love, she just feels there is no stock in it. It's an adventure she has yet to assume an interested in. “When all things seem to fail, stand on your inner strength, shovel today's challenges for your tomorrow's freedom.”

![]() PHOENIX FLAMESBird of Flame: Being a Phoenix, one of Aithne's most used and known abilities to the world is the capability to ignite herself into flame. Of course, during this, she is extremely weak to water of all kinds. Mist or spray won't do much but sting, but things like rain, large bodies of water, etc. will instantaneously knock her unconscious if they find her during this form. Aithne can ignite herself in a body of fire almost instantly, but letting the flames die down takes anywhere from ten to fifteen seconds.Note, Aithne can ignite only her hands or hair if she so chooses, as well. When her hair is on fire, water will still make her pass out, or at least dot her vision from the sheer pain. Water touching her in this form is the closest thing Aithne could feel to what it's like for others to burn. While this ability is active, Aithne can control whether she burns a person or not if they are to touch her. The heat that emanates from her body can be merely warm and soothing, or scalding and insufferable. To control this, however, she must be clear of mind and at a muted emotional state. (Further described in the weaknesses section). Fan of Fire: With a terrible shriek, Aithne can let loose a fan of flame with the flap of her wings or from her mouth. This burst of flame spreads three yards in front of Aithne in a cone and lasts no more than five seconds. She can only do this attack every other minute (every other post). PHOENIX PHYSIOLOGYHealing Tears: Aithne's tears, when genuinely compassionate, can heal open wounds, poison, and venom. For this to work, her tears have to make direct contact with whatever she wishes to treat, whether that be the wound, a bite mark (for venom), or a syringe mark (for poison). This ability doesn't work on emotional and mental injuries and can't fix diseases and sicknesses. The tears must come from Aithne herself, meaning she cannot bottle them and hand them out. Because they activate when feeling sincere sympathy for those she wishes to attend, her healing abilities will not work if she is tearing up because she is sad, because of a substance (such as smoke, etc.), or because of pain. Unfortunately, Aithne cannot fix herself using this ability. Aithne cannot bring people back to life with this power, no matter how short a time they've been dead. Mental Freedom: Aithne's mind may never be subdued. By nature, the Phoenix is a symbol of freedom, hope, and renewal. More correctly, there is a part of Aithne's mind that will always remain intact. That part that makes her her. The part of us all that keeps us as an individual. The same isn't said about her body. Things like mind control and other magic that is meant to control a person still work on Aithne, but nothing can make her a mindless slave, or strip her of her internal thought. She is always free to think as she always has. In short, things that attempt to change her morality, long-term emotions, or personality, are futile against her. But she is still affected by things that control the body or create illusions/mess with memories. This includes mind control, though, again, Aithne may never be made into a mindless servant. Even as her body is forced to obey commands, she will perpetually maintain her mental individuality. What she thinks, in the long run, may not be tampered with. SPECIES ABILITIESAs a bird born of fire, Aithne's average body temperature is abnormally high. Feeling her forehead would suggest she has a lethal fever, but this is normal for her. Don't worry about it raising, fear what will happen to her when it lowers. Her temperature gives her both a quick metabolism and resistance to sicknesses. Note that she is not immune to diseases, it is solely that her fever like heat helps her immune system go into overdrive to fight things off. She is still capable of getting the nastier diseases and what not. Because of her high metabolism, Aithne requires more calories each day to help her body function. She eats a lot, basically. Being a bird, Aithne also has the powers of flight and a hollow skeleton. She can fly only when she has transformed and cannot put wings on her human form. No matter which form she is in, she is much lighter than she appears, making her quicker and agiler than most would suspect. Unfortunately, her bones are also prone to breaking much easier than the average humans. By far, though, Aithne's most prestigious ability as a Phoenix is her resurrection through ash. Aithne's immortality isn't what most would expect. She does not live endlessly, and she is not unkillable. Rather, Aithne can be murdered by almost any normal means (excluding fire), but she will be born again from her ashes, which she bursts into once killed. Aithne can live up to five hundred years, and her body doesn't age, maintaining it's youthful appearance. One day, she will burst into ash when her time is up. Once Aithne turns to ash, that's when things get more interesting. Rather than being renewed as she is at the time, she is restored almost immediately (fifteen seconds) as a young girl of eight or ten. She has no memory of her previous life, at least, not in concrete detail. At most, Aithne can get a sense of deja vu in regards to people she knew well in a previous life. The same is said with skills; she will be quicker at picking up skills she was proficient at, but will not recall things that require personal or bodily experience. In her child form, Aithne can come off older than she really is, by the look in her eyes. She may understand concepts without knowledge as to why she understands them or have a subliminal understanding of complicated things she has experienced before. Unfortunately, she still loses her skill sets and must relearn them again. Luckily, with every death, she gets a little quicker at learning the skills she knew beforehand. Once Aithne is reborn from fire and ash, things like missing limbs and other permanent damage on her body will be reverted. Until then, though, she is forced to live with any maiming or scarring that occurs on her body, like anyone else. Aithne ages at an advanced right to adulthood. It takes her no more than three months to reach adulthood once she has been reborn. One month as a child, one as a pre-teen, and one as a teenager. WEAKNESSESCold: To Aithne anything under 85 degrees (29 Celsius) is just too cold. Throughout most of the year, it's common for Aithne to wear heavy winter wear, such as fur shawls or other fur/feather outfits. Her body can cool down and freeze like the average person, and you don't want her hair to cease glowing. Her hair is a good indication of how close she is to death. For Aithne, think of anything below 57 Fahrenheit (13 Celsius) as below freezing to her. She can't stay outside for long periods and definitely not without some intense winter wear. You'll almost never catch her wearing Summer clothing because she just can't. Emotional State: Aithne's fire magic, particularly when she ignites herself, is determined by her emotional state. Not just anger, but intense anything can burn a person. Passion, love, anger, sadness. Aithne has to be careful how much she allows herself to feel. Otherwise, she might accidently trigger her powers, and her body or hair will burst into flame. During times of heightened emotion, Aithne can't help but burn those who touch her. She has no control over the heat her fire is emanating. This is why Aithne spends plenty of her free time meditating and attempting a level of distance from her emotional state at all times. Even good emotions can be dangerous. Selective Apathy: Being born with immortality and having never been even remotely human, there are many things about mortals Aithne just can't understand. There a delicacy to them that baffles and intrigues her. Because of this, Aithne can struggle to feel suitably sympathetic toward them for problems she deems insignificant or cannot possibly understand. The best example of this is her lack of understanding of death or permanent loss. These are complete abstract fears to Aithne and so she cannot feel the same level of mourning that a mortal might. It's far too easy for the Phoenix to move on or leave things behind. The same can be said for her idea of home. Simply put, Aithne does not believe in the concept of a home. She is always moving, as are her people. Settling down doesn't occur to her the same way it might to a mortal. In reality, some of Aithne's emotions may be felt similarly to how a mortal feels them, but none of them are the same. Because of this, Aithne will never empathize with mortals, even if she is to sympathize with them. She can come off cold and cruel because of this apathy. Faithless: Aithne's powers are tied to her faith in herself. The Phoenix cannot name a time she has not believed in her capabilities, but if it were ever to happen, her power would be zapped away, and she would truly die. This is one of the two known methods ultimately killing her. Ash: The other known method of indefinitely killing Aithne would be to destroy her ashes before she was to return. Usually, that would mean spreading them in the ocean or another large body of water. The process of her rebirth can also be lengthed from fifteen seconds to thirty seconds by putting her ash in a container. Note, however, that the ash is what rebuilds her body and therefore has the same volume as she would. “If there's a single lesson that life teaches us, it's that wishing doesn't make it so.”

![]() Aithne was born in Egypt, near the Nile. Perhaps a seemingly strange place for a bird of fire, but rain was rare, and the land was fertile and booming with life. She spent all of her actual childhood in the form of a bird, feeding on snakes, hackling crocodiles, and other such creatures of the Nile. Aithne had three brothers and a sister. Two of her brothers did not survive to adulthood, while her other brother and sister lived with her even after their parents left them. Common for their subset of Phoenixes. Their parents left them to fend for themselves once they were too large for the nest. It was at this time that Aithne and her siblings had their first experiences with the human world. They donned their human forms and made way for the nearest civilization. Until they reached complete maturity, she and her siblings worked together to survive. Aithne set out on her own once she could protect herself, traveling the world and experiencing as much of the world as she could. That was how the Phoenix had first found herself on Manta Carlos. During the mid-1600's, Aithne had searched out this magical island with a clairvoyant travel partner. The woman didn't stay in Manta Carlos, but she visited every few decades, waiting for a change that seemed promising. That change came in the form of Cordelia Moor and her school. Late 1800's, bordering the 1900's, Aithne had been experiencing America when she heard news of Starlight Academy and thought it was an opportunity worth investigating. “If there's a single lesson that life teaches us, it's that wishing doesn't make it so.”
― Lev Grossman, The Magicians
♦ Has a heart shaped necklace that glows with a burning Phoenix feather inside. Given to her by her parents and meant to be offered to her future life-partner. Culturally significant.
“People tend to complicate their own lives, as if living weren't already complicated enough.”
― Carlos Ruiz Zafón, The Shadow of the Wind
Aithne is known well enough around Starlight Academy. Her hair and nosy attitude help her to stand out. What is primarily known about her is her solitary attitude and blunt, sometimes cold, advice. She has a love for the violin and is often heard playing it near the lake or in the courtyard.
