Thiul had not known what kind of person the one she had slept with had been, but she had known that she had a better taste than to sleep with an asshole, even if Thiul had been drunk. And Odette was a reasonable and seemingly kind, of not somehow timid person. Thiul, all in all, was glad it had been Odette she had ended up sleeping with.
When she asked what Hal was like Thiul frowned slightly in thought. She couldn't find the right words, he was too many things and few words could describe them. But Thiul tried.
"He is...smart, and cares about others and their opinions too much when you consider how smart he is. Charges into things, happy, surrounded by people."
As Thiul described her son she smiled, it was a proud smile, but she went serious soon after and looked Odette in the eyes.
"And he is open, as much so as me. So I know he will not reject you."

Odette wasn't always so timid, but pretty women flustered her at the best of times, and this situation with Thiul was beyond awkward to begin with. For some reason, she'd always had trouble with conversation, just sitting still and talking. Her risks were for more physical things, adventure, and travel. Those also happened to be things where she wasn't so confronted with being born in the wrong body.

"He sounds like a bright young man... with a good mother." Odette let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding when Thiul said he would accept her. "I do value your acceptance.. And his. The world is not so open."

She hesitated then. From the way Thiul talked about Halcyon, it seemed he was doing well, and Odette didn't know anything about dragon physiology. Not much about her own either, except for whatever bits of writing had been left by distant basilisk relatives. "Basilisks are quite rare... Even in my bloodline I have never met another. But we do have poison in our blood... If there is anything you need to know about that, just ask me."

Yes, the world is not that open. Thiul agreed with that, and so did Hal and everyone the two of them were close to. But...
"I raised Hal to be an open person, even more so than I am."
Thiul wasn't even sure how that was possible, but on many aspects Hal was much better of a person than she was.

Thiul tensed, when Odette brought up basilisk physique and biology out of nowhere. Well, it was lucky for Thiul, now she didn't need to start the topic. She straightened her back, this was a topic Thiul was good at.
"I wanted to dicuss that with you. Hal has...a condition. The poison of a basilisk he inherited from you, it's too powerful for his body, which is more dragon-like when it comes to genetic makeup. The poison, if not subdued by medicine, leaks out and kills Hal and everyone surrounding him. I have created a thinning agent, that has kept his condition under control thus far. But the poison is still getting stronger. And I need your help to find a solution and safe Hal's life. You...you are the only person I can count on."
