It was late afternoon when Aurum had some free time. The kids were all out with their friends and Aurum was home alone. Rubbing the back of his neck as he stood up from being down on his one knee and praying. Even though his time in war was over. He wasn't going to break some his habits. His chants seemed more like songs as he kept muttering under his breath. Moving to the kitchen to prepare himself some tea.

His eyes were on the kettle as his eyes started to turn blue, then blazed a blue flame that the kettle moved to the sink as he turned the tap to use the hot water. The water filling the kettle as he turned off the tap, then grasped the handle. Placing it on the stove as he put a burner on full blast. Then moved to his bed room to get out his meditation clothes. Which was just a tapestry he had created that was large enough to wrap around his body like a toga.

Into something interesting. He wore a set of suit pants and shirt. Which was almost all of his wardrobe besides some tactical gear and his sparing clothes. Realizing no one was around to help him with the tie so he didn't bother. His bulky hands weren't small enough to tie it so he just dealt with it as he saw fit. Which meant not even looking at them.

He then heard someone knock on his door. He raised an eyebrow as the sound of his foot steps were light on the carpeted floor, but were audible once he hit the wood tile of his place. Opening the door revealing his living room of Gothic architecture. Lowering his eyebrow he looked at who had knocked.

"Good day. How may I help you? Or are you lost?"

Lei thought she was fine on her own, but she'd been visiting the school counselor lately. She confided in her what happened during those three days and the month of November, and every week, they worked through her issues. Lei expressed her problems about not feeling safe in Manta Carlos anymore. The topic of Legal Guardians came up, and Aurum Hyperion was one of the most recommended guardians when it came to protection, mostly because he was an indestructible tank.

That sounded like a good idea to her. Sid and Clarence were pretty sturdy by themselves, but she wasn't so shameless that she'd depend on them for safety. They had already done enough for her during November. It was time to take this issue up with the proper authorities.

When she went to the designated area and the door was answered... Whoa. She didn't realize that was Aurum. He was huge and scary. She felt her cheeks flush and her knees tremble, nervous and suddenly very uncertain of this course of action. She hugged her chest and made herself very tiny and nonthreatening, keeping her gaze to the ground to maintain politeness.

"Mr. Hyperion... right? Um. My name is Lei Feng and. T-the guidance counselor told me I should... see you about being my legal guardian? I've been having some issues with bad people that want to hurt me. If... If you're interested, I can elaborate on it more inside —" It was very cold out. She'd rather not keep standing here, if she could help it. "— It's ok if you're not, h-honestly."

Aurum had looked at the girl who stood before him. Almost cowering at the door as his frightful presence. Though it was true that Aurum was a very intimidating man to start. Due to his size and his always serious stern looks. He was a good person most people would say. Even though some people didn't know him that well.

He blanked a few times as he heard her speak. He then realized it was cold out and grabbed one of his jackets and placed it over her shoulders and guided her into the apartment that was carefully concealed in the on site clock tower.

"Indeed I am Aurum Hyperion. Legal Guardian? I see." He knew Guidance wasn't a big fan of him. So he decided to listen to this girls plea for help. "Please, you must have been out for a while at this rate. Sit down and take some time to yourself. I am making tea if you wish some."

Aurum moved to guide her to sit down on the sofa and padded the pillows. Removing his jacket to hand her a thin blanket. "It is not warm, but it is all I have out here currently. Wa-" He went to speak as he heard the kettle roar. Moving to the kitchen to get two cups, one large coffee mug for him and tea cup for Lei. Then putting the tea bags into it cups before filling them with water. He walked over to the coffee table in front of sofa and close to a reclining chair as he put the small cup in front of Lei and his he held in his hand and took a drink. Not minding how hot it is since it just came out.

"Lei.. Feng right?" He asked. "Please, Call me Aurum. I am no teacher here."

He wanted to get into the nitty and gritty. He needed to know what ailed this girl. He felt like.. he had to. Looking at Lei it reminded him of someone he used to know. He couldn't put his finger on it. That was the issue. That was the problem. Who was in his past that looked like her... Someone...

Someone....

"Please Lei. Speak freely. I wish to know more."

At this point.. Aurum had already made his decision. He just wanted to make sure that he was going to do this for the right reasons. So he sat silently.

Lei picked up the cup and cooled the tea down to a more drinkable warm. She took a few sips as she observed Aurum.

One of the harsh lessons she learned with Deith was that she shouldn't trust people so easily, but Aurum had a respectable reputation and two daughters that seemed to be happy with him because of the program. As scary as his appearance was, he was gentle with her, and with a man that strong she felt like she could feel safe for once.

She was silent as he asked her, psyching herself up to relay the story. It... wasn't a pleasant recollection. But if she was going to convince him to adopt her, she needed him to understand why. She hugged the blanket around her and stared at her feet, sighing, voice shaky as the words came out.

"I... um. I met this boy, Deith Rosenn, last March and after a while we started dating. I was convinced we were in love and it was, um, it was perfect, you know? He was really nice to me. He gave me lots of nice stuff and he promised he'd protect me. But um." Aw. Fuck. The tears were coming in. She wiped the incoming tears away with the blanket and laughed, a bit bitterly. "S-sorry. Last November. It was just last month, you know, so um. Last November, I went to his house, and I saw him fucking another girl and we argued and it turned out... He was fucking a corpse."

It all sounded so ridiculous, saying it like this, but it was true. Being in that situation, having it affect her like that... Jesus. She was silent, for a bit, as she tried to get her shaking in control. She was okay. She was okay. "So then, I called him a freak, b-because it was fucked up, you know? Knowing your boyfriend is some sort of dirty corpse fucker? And then he told me this sob story about how everybody leaving him, or whatever, and I told him I was gonna leave him because what if he kills me to fuck my corpse, too. He told me — he told me that I couldn't leave. He tried to kill me so he could make me his weird corpse bride. I-I don't really feel safe going out or being alone anymore because, I keep thinking, what if he comes for me in my sleep? I-I told the school counselor about this, and she said that it might be good to have you as my legal guardian. Please... please help."

Aurum had listened to the story. It had seemed very similar to something in his past. Something that he never wanted brought up, but... Something he will bring up to her in time. This was just to understand her plight as he got up to look out the window. Checking around to see if anything was around. He had taken the time to listen to Lei.

"I am sorry that it was not a pleasant story for you to recall. I appreciate the fact you could instead of bottling it up and awaiting for it to destroy you. Lei." He said walking over to her. Kneeling down as he placed his hands on her shoulder. His eye and bionic eye looking into hers as he pulled her in and hugged her rather loosely. Remembering that he was stronger than most people on this island.

"Listen.. This.. Deith Rosenn? Should he EVER be in the same room as him I will be there. I will ensure he does not harm you. Even if I have to spend days following you where ever you go."

He held the hug for a bit longer as he rubbed her back with his hands. Moving his left hand to the back of her head just to let her cry into his shoulder if she wanted. Just to let her know that she was safe with him, that he was there for her.

"I will be your guardian.. My name is Aurum, not Mister Hyperion.."

Lei returned the hug and tried to steady herself. Right. Right. She'd shaken off the bulk of the trauma last November, but the wound was still fresh and sore. She hated breaking in front of people like this. It was like a shameless display of weakness, soft spots for people to poke at. But damage to her dignity aside, she'd convinced Aurum, at least. In that, she felt a little safer. Friends were nice, and Sid and Clarence were very loving, but parental figures were secure. Lei felt safe under a higher power watching over her.

"Ok." She nodded, uncertain. "Aurum. Dad. That's what... guardianship means, right? Is t-that all right, or." Her cheeks flushed for a moment. Damn it, maybe that was too forward. "I-If it's just Aurum, that's ok too." As she pulled out of the hug, she smiled at him weakly. Man, that probably looked a bit gross, with her crying and all, but the sentiment was there. "Thank you, sir. You don't know how much this means to me. I-I, um..."

She pulled out some paperwork from her jacket and weakly offered it to Aurum. "T-the usual paperwork and. Stuff. Um, my contact info and junk is there too. How does this work exactly?"

"Dad can do fine if you are comfortable with that. if not Aurum works best. Do what makes you feel comfortable Lei." He said. Messing up her hair. Trying to reassure her when she was smiling weakly. Aurum had seen this a lot from kids he had met in his time. Telling tales that most people thought were lies. Since he was only a myth. A shadow in the dark. He pulled out a tissue from the box on the coffee table and handed it to her. "There is a washroom in your room you could use to clean yourself up should you wish." he said. he didn't mind watch someone cry. In the past.. It never bothered him. Now. kids, students. People made him more human. he sighed happily.

Aurum took the paper and began to read it over. A small skull floated in the air around Aurum. Almost landing on his shoulder as it made a light whirring noise. "Do not mind Yggs. The Servo Skull has a mind of it's own and tends to follow Aeon and Honey around... Your sisters now.' he said. Pulling out a pen as he started to put in his own contact information. Leaving a lot blank. he had no email.. Home phone.. Even his cellphone he didn't like giving out to people who weren't close to him. He preferred it that way.

"Once I finish signing I will take this to the Administration Office tomorrow morning. Please. Make yourself at home. Should you need any furnishing or require something to eat please tell me and I will ensure you get what you need to feel safe and secure." He said. Sitting back in his chair. Filling out the paper work and occasionally scratching his chin while reading.

Lei took the tissue with a small, grateful, "Thanks" and stood up to the bathroom. En route to her destination, the skull appeared, which made Lei's insides jump at fright and send her back reeling to the couch. Upon being informed that it was, however, a Servo Skull, that meant... uh. She didn't know what that was but that meant it wasn't bad, right?

Okay.

She circled Aurum to go to the bathroom. Except, it wasn't the bathroom, it was someone's bedroom! Um! That was embarrassing. She shut the door politely, thankful nobody was inside, and entered the real bathroom.

She washed her face, and looked at herself in the mirror.

As much as she wanted a guardian and tears could very much win a person over, this overblown reaction was... It was real. At times like this, when she was done crying, she ruminated how surreal it felt to be broken so badly the recollection of an event brought her to the brink of tears. It didn't feel good. She didn't feel like a whole person. She felt like she got dropped on the ground and broken into pieces and she superglued herself back together, but it wasn't good as new, it was very obvious that she was just put together and at times her trauma would whistle through the holes and cracks.

Fucked up. She was fucked up. Broken and never okay.

But... but better.

She dried her face off and entered the living room again. "I don't think I'll be able to stay here full time..." she told Aurum weakly. "But weekends, and some weekdays. I'll tell you wherever I'm going and when I get back and if I don't get back..." She swallowed. "Please look for me. I don't want to disappear one day. I really don't."
