ABC is easy as Punching Ye

Straga's home was about what one would expect. It was definitely lived in, however it had very sparse decor. That said, his home was an ideal place for studying with little to no distractions. And so Destra opted to take Ferret here to study. He knew this would probably be an uphill battle considering she'd only just arrived on the island a few days ago. Destra was making a point of teaching this garbage rat how to read as quickly as possible if only for the sake of starting her on a path to independence here in her new home.

He had a feeling this would make his hair turn whiter.

He took a seat at a table on their back deck. Straga was home, just in his room napping. Hopefully this wouldn't be as unpleasant as pulling teeth. He pulled out a children's alphabet book. "Alright, if you can manage to memorize these letters I'll get you something nice," he sighed.

And there was her response, as expected something nice wasn't quite enough to get her to sit down and shut up. Destra sighed and shook his head, "Of course it's not. It's food, now hurry up and get to it."

Ferret still hadn't grasped the notion that being able to read would give her more access to food on her own. There was also the issue of money. She still didn't understand the point of it. Reading would help with that too. And that would hopefully curb any need she had to steal things.

"Great job you're the best, keep it going. You've got twenty five left," Destra sighed as he whipped out his phone and began playing a game rather idly. He was of course keeping an attentive eye on Ferret. He reached into his pocket and tossed her a Jolly Rancher. Basically extra incentive for her to keep going.

There was a brief moment where he considered telling her that people generally suck on them, but when did she ever listen to him? Except that time he scruffed her in her garbage pile.

And there it was. Destra had expected this a little sooner, but keeping candy and treats on hand seemed like a pretty decent way to keep her on track. Like a dog. It was time to probably take a short break of sorts. Keep her learning words and letters. The good news was she spoke well enough, she just needed to learn the letters to plug in for writing.

"Alright, how about I show you how to spell your name?" he offered. She probably would take that as a decent starter. It did pertain directly to her after all. Destra picked up the book and sat down next to her.

It didn't work, unfortunately Destra had a lot more in common with Ferret than he'd like to admit. The leader of the Barathos clan was hilariously small compared to his fellow clansmen. Yet he'd managed to instill a high level of respect in them. Ferret didn't really care about that. A more rational Destra would understand learning this stuff is very frustrating.

The area began to darken like a bad storm was about to roll in.

"If you don't want to be treated like a child stop throwing tantrums like one. You're not an infant I didn't bring you back here because I felt sorry for you, I brought you here to show you an easier way of living," his voice was more a snarl than anything else. "This is a place where you can thrive if you give it the chance. You're just mad because it's hard right now. When things get difficult ask for help."
