Daniel did not have much to do when Selia was in classess, he could not go with her and he did not want to stay in the dorm room all the time. So he took the times when she was busy to go on adventures of his own, find his way around his new home and of course try to not be noticed. It had gone very well and not many payed much attention to the little boy as he walked though the school during the days. He had just been to the library and borrowed some nice books he found there, childrensbooks of course with nice pictures and such. Daniel could not read very well. In fact he had never really learned to read at all. But the pictures was nice alright.

He was now in search for a calm place where he could read, he had walked to a part of the school where he had never been before. But it seemed as if not to many of the others went to this part. The kid arrived to a pair of large doors and of course they made him curious and Daniel slowly walked over to them and slowly opened one of the doors and peeked inside. His eyes widened as he saw what he saw. It was the most amazing room he had ever seen in his entier life. It was so large and....large. He hestitated for a moment but then he pulled the door open and quickly slipped into the room. He began to cross the floor and his eyes glanced from left to right as he tried to get as much as possible from the room he was in. It was amazing! He hugged the book he was holding as he walked further and the only sound he made was the once created from when his shoes hit the floor and echoed of the walls.

Alex snuck into the ball room from the second floor walkway. She had her English textbook tucked under her arm and was humming a random tune, in a rather smooth soprano voice she was still getting used to. She had repeatedly over the last few days tried to find a small quite isolated place around campus that she could read the reading for next week’s class and for one reason or another she could never seem to pull that off. She paused for a moment as she entered the ballroom. It was her first time in here since coming to school, she and avoided every dance and social event that had taken place in here so far, she didn’t want to face the awkward problems that would come up with having to wear a dress or dance with a boy.

As she walked down the stairs to get to the ground floor she froze for a moment on the middle of the staircase as she realized she wasn’t alone, those footsteps weren’t an echo of her footsteps; they were too light and too small. Scanning the room she found him a little boy walking on the dance floor, looking rather out of place here. How old was he six, seven? She didn’t know there were any students here that young. She opened her mouth to say something but stopped what was she suppose to say? She had no idea.

“H-hello?” She finally managed to say before adding. “Are you lost?”

Danile that was very busy with his own thoughts was not ready for the fact that someone might be there so when he heard the voice he quickly looked that was and almost dropped the book he was holding in his arms, his heart began to beat a little faster then before. He noticed Alex and looked at the girl with big eyes, he was not afraid really, no not at all more to the surprised really. He heard her questions but did not really know what he would reply to them. He thought about it for a few seconds and then he slowly shook his head a little. "N-no miss" he said politly to the woman.

Daniel took a deep breath before he continued. "I am...not lost....and Hello." his face turned a little red as he noticed her first replied to her question and then said Hello, that was a little weird really. This was the first person he had really talked to since he meet Selia in the tower. But he had started to become a little more sure that people around the school was not going to attack him.

Miss? She chuckled that was the first time someone ever called her that. Alex might have been upset about it I fit was someone else, but this was just a kid putting to fear of god in him really wouldn’t do any good this kid seems to be rather uncomfortable right now anyway and she didn’t want to be the person who makes a seven year old boy cry. “Well,” She said grinning warmly. “If you aren’t lost thennn… Do you have a class in here?” She asked already knowing the answer to that question, but she really had no idea what to say. She wasn’t very good with kids and had no idea what to do. “My name’s Alex.” She added. “What is your name?”

IT was rather unusually for her to be this upfront with people she just met. Alex normally played info about herself pretty close to the chest, making people work to find out anything about her. But… this was just a kid and she was just trying to make conversation and try not to scare him off and make him feel more comfortable.

Daniel listened to her words as the girl was talking, he shook his head slightly at her question. "No miss, I do not have any classes here. I am...to small. I-I live with Selia in the...well....in a place" he replied slowly and hugged the book he was holding, of course he did not want to say that he lived with her in the girls dorm...if the school owners found out about that they might try and force him to move out or something like that. If she would look att it she would see the title of the book, Winnie the Pooh, on the cover, and a pretty picture of the bear to of course. Daniel continued to look at Alex and he smiled a little as she told her name. "Nice to meet you Alex he said, his voice did sound a little stronger now and he did not seem at all as afraid as he had been a moment ago,

My name is Daniel, and t-this is Lezlo." he made a gesture to his backpack where the head of the teddy bear was visible. "He is also happy to meet you" being alone most of his life without any real friends it was only natural for a little boy in his age to have imaginary friends, Lezlo had been the only one that had always been there for him at all times. "I did not know anyone was going to be here, I can leave if you want me to....I was just....going to practice my reading." this was not really true since he did not know how to read but only a few words so far.

Selia? Alex thought as she scratched the back of her head. She heard that name before she thought maybe it was one of the girls in the dorm, but Alex didn’t think they had ever met. Maybe she lived on a different floor or something. But if that was true, does that mean he lives in the girls dorms too? That would be odd and she figured she would have heard about that from someone else eventually. Unless it’s a secret.

“It’s nice to meet you Daniel.” She said trying not to sound cross or rude, but she thought she came off as some overly sugary children’s educational show host. “And Lezlo too.” She added catching a glance of a teddy bear’s visible behind Daniel. “Yeah that’s why I’m in here too…” She said sighing and clenching her book in her and glanced down at the book in Daniel’s hand and smiled. “Winnie the Pooh. That’s a good book to practice on. “

Daniel listened to her, so she was here to read to? Well that was very nice....he looked towards the book she was holding but it did not look like a book he would find very interesting, in fact he could guess he would not be able to understand half of the words used in that book. As she talked about the book Daniel had the boy looked at it and then he looked back at her with a bright smile. "Yeah, I like Winnie the Pooh" he said and the voice was rather happy as he said these words.

"M-m-mom used to read it to me when I was three, she did it a little now and then later to when she was not drinking." he sighed a little and looked at the book again, leting a hand softly stroke the cover. "I like Piglet most, he is cute and...fun. I wish I could read it myself....now I can just look at the pictures and....well read a few words." his face turned a little red as he said this part, his guess was that most children would have to know how to read when they where in his age. Yet he could not....people would think him stupid.

Alex’s smile faded mention at the mention of his mom drinking. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize what he meant by his mom drinking, and what that implied. She couldn’t help but wonder what his mother did while she was drinking, and she knew all she would have to do is take a few seconds of searching his mind to find out. But the notion of doing that was extremely distasteful, and she really didn’t want those kinds of memories in her head too. “Yeah I like Winnie the Pooh.” She said with a smile as she walked closer to the boy. “My mom used to read me these stories when I was a little bo-” She stopped before finishing saying boy, then continued. “When I was a little girl. I always liked the books.”

“Ye-yeah I liked Piglet too.” She said. “Though I am starting to starting to feel more like a Eeyore with every passing day.” She added under her breath.

She raised an eyebrow when he said he didn’t know how to read. How could that be he’s at least five he should have learned by now? “Really?” She said in a reflexively surprised tone. “Why’s that?”

Daniel smiled at Alex as she said that her mom used to read it to her to. Well that was nice actually, Winnie the Pooh was such a nice book and in fact it was the only object besides Lezlo that Daniel gotten from his parents. He tilted his head to the side as she said she was more of an Eeyore for every passing day. "Why?" he asked, but then he quickly looked down into the floor. "Sorry....that was rude of me to ask...sorry" he added and scratched himself in the back of the head.

Then the question came, Daniel did not say anything at first and he closed his eyes for a moment. He had started to talk so he had to finish it. He raised his eyes so that he looked at the girl. "Dad said I was not smart enough for that, so he said it was a waste of time for me to....try." he replied with a low voice. "When I continued to ask....he....beat me up with his belt. S-so I gave up on trying to learn to read. I guess I am to stupid...." he lowered the gaze again and sighed a little as he hugged the book he was holding, the memories was still fresh in his mind and it was such a pain to think about them.

Alex wasn’t sure what to say for a moment as she asked her why she was feeling more and more like an Eeyore person with each passing day. Really telling a kid her ordeals on the year would be tantamount to abuse. “Well…” She trailed off still trying to figure out what to say. “It’s girl stuff.” She finally said, and that was mostly true. “And don’t be sorry you should never be sorry for asking questions. That’s a good thing.”

Alex felt like she was punched in the gut after Daniel told her about the abuse. She suspected as much, what with her mother drinking, and the amazingly social ineptness this kid displayed. “I-” She started before stopping she didn’t know what to say. “I’m sorry.” She finally said before taking a deep breath and forcing another grin onto her considering. Considering how guilty this kid got by simply asking her a question he thought was rude, she didn’t want him thinking he had really upset her. “We should do something do something about this.” She said as bubbly as she could muster. “Who did you say you lived with now?”
