Qing had a point. He could have just not went out to an open space. He'd crossed out the city just because he was getting tired of the cityscape. The woods was just as part of nature as the park but with the bonus of shade from the trees. He didn't have to make excuses if he'd just gone to those places, right? Quincy didn't have a proper answer, so the most he could offer was an awkward laugh.

"Change of pace? Some places get tiring to look at so a walk in the park is a refreshing sight," Quincy answered, turning to face the water, trying to look at his reflection. "Even though it sometimes gets a bit too bright. But I like changing stuff around every now and then; it keeps the mood up, you know?"

"I tried sunscreen -- doesn't really work. Actually, I don't understand how it's supposed to work, but the old-fashioned umbrella does the job anyway," he continued, appearing to be unconcerned if he was boring Qing.

"So wait, do you just practice here everyday? Or do you go to other areas?"

The water glittered in the sunlight. It was rather enchanting, Qing thought, and immediately wondered if it was blinding Quincy. He wondered if the light, reflecting off the water, was "a bit too bright" for the boy. But, given how the kid was still trying to make out... whatever it was in the water, it musn't be bothering him. Qing shrugged.

"Huh. Okay, kid. Whatever you say." He certainly wasn't going to question the kid's claim. "Nah. I gotta work. But when I can make it, I come, often in the evenings. It's nice to have the water. And when the sun sets in the distance, and it turns the pond into a blazing pool..."

His voice trailed off. Nostalgia winked in the god's eyes. He felt himself transported back to a simpler time, when mortals worshipped the old gods, and he was free to watch a million sunsets on a million different days.

"Blazing pool..." Quincy echoed. He'd always wanted to watch the sunset just because, but he always wondered what it looked like to other people. To him, he could only barely watch it until the sun fully set in the horizon; must be nice, he thought. Quincy eventually turned his gaze away from the water, seeing a bit of the after images once he'd looked at a cooler surface. He waited for it to subside a bit before glancing towards Qing, who looked to have a kind of wistful look on his face. Almost as if any other part of Qing's reply went over his head he asked curiously, "Is there something about the water that's important to you?"

"Mm," hummed the god, absently. He continued staring out at the water's edge, memory of one of his past's sunsets superimposed in shimmering gold onto the pond's surface. He was lost in his mind's eye, thinking back to when he was younger, and the world was simpler, and he flowed with it as water did. "Important?" Qing mused to Quincy then, "There is nothing more important to me."

It was his domain, firstly. Qing was a dragon god; a water-bringer, a storm-chaser, a life-giver, among other things. Water was the very reason for his existence; water did not define him so rigidly, but it was the hallmark of his being. He dipped his hand into the pond and drew it out. Hovering above his palm was a round sphere of clear fluid, a small fish swimming in endless circles around the ball. Qing cupped it with his hand, then with the other, he traced a line around its outside. The sphere spun with lazy rotations.

Inside the sphere, he could sense impurities -- bacteria, small particles of dirt and grime, (harmless) chemicals that had seeped into the pool... To him, it felt like he was holding not a seemingly pure ball of water, but a sphere that had been dipped into oil and pulled out soaking.

He turned to face Quincy, and slowly brought a finger to the surface of the wobbling sphere. With one touch, he could feel the things that were not-water being expelled from it, evaporating into thin air. The fish, thankfully, stayed.

"Water," said Qing to Quincy, with an almost adoring look in his eyes, "Is everything. What is your everything?"

Quincy watched Qing with curiosity. He would have spoken again after his first statement. Nothing is more important. Quincy didn't get it; he wanted to ask what made it important, but he saw Qing draw out water from the pond, shaped into a sphere into the palm of his hand almost as if it was any solid he could simply pick up. He found himself speechless, watching the fish in the ball of water swim around, seemingly trying to get out of it. He scrunched his nose a bit, feeling bad for the confused fish that probably wanted to swim away. But Qing turned to him, and the shadow on his face was gone just as quickly as it appeared. Qing's expression was so soft it surprised Quincy enough to keep him quiet. And then he was asked a question. What is your everything? Quincy opened his mouth to answer, only to realize he didn't have one. "I..." he began, trying to search his thoughts. He wondered what was Qing actually asking him. The question was probably simple -- it probably was, but seeing Qing's expression made him think. The boy gave Qing a reserved smile. It probably didn't look right on his face. "I'm really not sure." He turned away from Qing, looking towards the greener parts of the park. From the side, it almost seemed like his more usual smile was back on his face. "Never thought of it, actually. What does make something everything anyway?"

"Well," said Qing, smiling, "I'm the god of water." Qing ignored the odd smile on Quincy's face -- it seemed he'd hit a sensitive, or at least soft, spot, and he didn't want to prod further. It was only their first meeting, after all. He lowered his hand to the surface of the pond, and the water melded back into its original body. The fish bubbled away, darting off into a group of other fish. "Heh, kid, it's okay if you don't know what your everything is yet." He couldn't help it. Qing fell back into his habit of addressing whoever looked remotely like a kid, as "kid".

"Me? I'm literally affiliated to water. It doesn't define me, but it's where I'm most at home." His voice was fond. Qing made a pulling motion with the fingers of one hand, and a small sphere of water coalesced out of the air. He mimicked pulling at the sphere, and a miniature figure of Quincy appeared. "I do a bunch of things with water. Freezing it, melting it, evaporating it, you name it, I probably can do it."

"But you, kiddo, that's what you gotta figure out on your own." Qing smiled softly. "You find something that means anything to you, and then slowly, gradually, it becomes a part of you."

Quincy turned to Qing at his answer, a slight bit of curiosity marking his features as he did so. Quincy's gaze followed Qing's gaze that was towards the water and found the fish from earlier rejoining his fish friends. A sigh came out of the teen as he watched it swim away with the group, almost unable to hear Qing's words. When he turned his gaze back to Qing, Quincy found him with another ball of water, and for a moment, he wondered where it had come from, but the thought quickly vanished as the water formed into a new shape. Quincy stared with awe as Qing continued to talk. There was part of Quincy that felt a bit lonely, but hearing Qing's words made him think. "Where you're most at home, huh?" he echoed thoughtfully. Quincy chuckled softly, almost to himself as if he'd thought of something interesting before looking down below him, picking on the grass by his shoes. He smiled to himself. "You know, talking to you somehow made me feel a little better about stuff." A pause. "But, hey... you said you're the god of water, right? What's that like?"
