As Chloe spoke, Dorito's expression changed, shifting from vindictive to disbelieving with each passing second. Chloe's story was the complete play-by-play, the truth as she remembered it happening with no room for omitted and fabricated details. Her grip on Chloe's hair had already started to loosen, and she just let go of her hair when asked, hand flopping uselessly down at her side. She stared for a few seconds, mouth hanging open slightly and eyes wide, before she carefully lowered herself down from the table and started to fiddle with the ropes.

As Dorito untied Chloe her voice was almost a wimper. "I... well.. you see... I... S-sorry..." She stuttered and mumbled in a way much more befitting of Cheeto than of herself as she began to loosen up the ropes and unwind them from around Chloe. It seemed now it was this little goblin's turn to be immeasurably awkward with Chloe as she struggled to find the proper words to at least try to justify her actions.

As she muttered and pleaded, she quickly and meekly gathered the rope as she removed it from Chloe and stuffed it back into her backpack. Dorito's posture spoke volumes, her shoulders drawn in and her head hung. The way she slouched and couldn't bring herself to look at anything but the floor, one of her hands rubbing her arm slightly. "I just... It was... I... They said... uhh... Well... I..." Admittedly this was the most embarrassed Dorito had been in a long, long time, how could she even begin to apologize for this?

When Chloe’s arms were free, she began to help Dorito get rid of the ropes. Dorito stammered an apology. Chloe remained silent. What could she say? She’d been tied to a chair and had her mind violated. It would be hard to forgive something like that so quickly. But nothing truly awful had come of it, and Dorito knew that she had messed up.

When the rope was all removed, Chloe stayed seated, staring at the goblin. Her face was relaxed and inscrutable as she watched the goblin’s feeble attempts to explain herself.

“…You meant well, I’m sure,” she said. “If I had a sister I wouldn’t want anyone doing stuff to her, either.” Though her words were conciliatory, she couldn’t hide the anger in her voice.

Dorito froze in place, visibly wincing at Chloe's tone. Her hangs gripped tight at the rope and she couldn't bring herself to look at Chloe. "She's... She's pretty special, yeah." Just as Chloe couldn't hide her anger, Dorito very clearly couldn't hide her guilt, her regret, her embarrassment. "I mean... I heard around the school about how you were... summoned." Dorito seemed detached as she spoke, fidgeting with the rope in her hand as she stared at a strangely specific patch of floor to Chloe's left. "I just got... I didn't... I just..." She slowly looked up at Chloe, eyes pleading, uncertain. This was the most vulnerable anyone had ever seen Dorito, even if Chloe did not immediately know it.

Dorito looked like she was about to speak again, to continue trying to apologize, when there came a sudden rush of air and a "POOF" of swirling, earthy smoke. As the smoke cleared unnaturally quickly, Cheeto was standing there, next to her sister. Her hands were on her hips as she stared daggers at Dorito, her voice came like a whip's lash. "Well?" Dorito simply shrank away, arms dropping weakly to her side as she failed to look her sister in the eye. Cheeto stepped towards Dorito and spoke again, raising her voice. "Well?"

Chloe’s expression didn’t change. On an intellectual level, she knew where Dorito was coming from. This didn’t change the fact that Dorito had tied her up and telepathically violated her, but Chloe knew where Dorito was coming from. She opened her mouth to speak.

Poof.

Chloe blinked. She stared at Cheeto. Did Cheeto just teleport into her room?

“…Cheeto just teleported into my room,” Chloe said. She made a conscious effort not to sound too surprised; things like this shouldn’t have surprised her anymore. “Right. Um… hi, Cheeto. Dorito, uh, tied me to a chair and mind-control-interrogated me. And you probably already knew that.” Cheeto definitely knew that; she looked furious.

Chloe kept forgetting that the two goblins shared a mind. Sort of. Except when they didn’t, apparently.

Cheeto seemed to slowly soften as Chloe explained the situation. Her anger dissipated when she looked at Chloe, something about the way she was seemingly remaining so collected in this situation doused whatever fire was lit under Cheeto. Dorito seemed to slump away, even more shamed that this person she was so horrible to was explaining this situation in such away, when she couldn't even find the words to apologize to Cheeto. "Chloe." Cheeto almost choked on the word as she ran over to her friend and wrapped her arms around Chloe, almost throwing herself onto the girl as she clung tight to her. Cheeto was a mix of anger, horror, and fear. She was mortified at what Dorito had done and clearly seething with rage for her sister, but something compelled her to make sure Chloe was okay first and foremost, hugging tightly to her.

Dorito slumped against the bed and slowly slid down until she was sitting on the floor, staring at them. She seemed to only be able to mouth "I'm Sorry" over and over again, visibly fighting back tears as she tried to catch Chloe's attention long enough to somehow let her know.

The hug surprised Chloe, but she was quick to reciprocate. She wrapped her arms around Cheeto. The room was quiet for a while, save for Dorito’s sobbing. And as angry as Chloe was, she didn’t feel like it was that bad.

Chloe was the first to break the silence. “I’m fine.” She patted Cheeto a few times on the back, then released the hug.

“Dorito.” She said, loud enough for the orange-haired goblin to hear. “I’m super pissed off at you, don’t get me wrong. But this is the least shitty thing someone with mind control has done to me, and you were trying to protect your sister. So…” She sighed. Dorito made herself suffer more than enough already. “I forgive you.” Her tone was still angry, still matter-of-fact. “Just," her tail slapped against her desk. "never do that to me again.”

Cheeto was a little slower to release the hug, and she gave Dorito a disapproving scowl. When Chloe started to speak, Dorito winced as though she was about to be struck. However, both she and Cheeto looked very surprised at Chloe forgiving Dorito. The tail-slap on the desk put that jolt of fear back in Dorito though. She simply nodded and moved, grabbing up her backpack and wiping away tears before they could form. Cheeto simply stared at her sister as Dorito hastily moved to the door and broke into a run, her footsteps vanishing down the dorm hallway.

A few seconds after Dorito was gone, Cheeto turned back with a worried yet apologetic look. "I am SOOOOOOO sorry! I had no idea until she- Well... when..." Cheeto started to sputter and stammer, her hands squeezing tightly onto Chloe's as she stared pleadingly into her eyes, as though this was somehow her fault. "She kept that from me... That she felt what I felt. She never talked to me or I'd have told her what happened. I never would've, I should've known, I should've stopped her, I..." Cheeto went from stuttering nervously to rambling in a small panic, going a mile a minute trying to explain... something!

“Shhh…” Chloe held a finger to Cheeto’s mouth. “That was Dorito’s fault, not yours.” She managed a short, reassuring smile. “And I’ll get over it. She knew that what she did was stupid, and it wasn’t even that bad.” Chloe seemed worried for a second; she stared at a specific part of the wall behind Cheeto. “That probably says something messed up about how bad mind control has to get before I think it’s really bad, now that I think of it.”

She shrugged. “Whatever. More importantly: holy shit, you can teleport! That’s kind of awesome.” Chloe was already ready to not talk about what Dorito did.

Cheeto looked like she was about to say something regarding Chloe's opinions on mental abilities and the scaling severity of mind control when suddenly she was reminded that she could teleport. It was something that, in retrospect, Cheeto had always taken for granted. "Huh, I guess I can." You'd expect a statement like that to be sarcastic but it sounded more like an epiphany. She moved over to the bed and sat down, tilting her head a little and looking at Chloe.

"Me and my sister, it's part of our link." Cheeto began, kicking her feet a little as she spoke. "Its like that mental link of ours, if we can feel the other, we can just... be where the other is." She gave a small, humourless giggle. "We got so good at it we became able to trade places, but... Me and her, when we started keeping secrets from each other stuff like this started to happen." Cheeto's demeanor started to crack, it was growing apparent that this had shaken her much more than she had let on.

Chloe watched Cheeto, worried. “I… have no idea what that would be like,” she said, “growing up so close to someone you can literally share your thoughts with her, and then… growing apart from her. And then this kind of thing.”

She tilted her head a little, mirroring Cheeto’s posture. Cheeto’s sister had just done something really bad to her, and here she was trying to comfort Cheeto. The irony wasn’t lost on her, but she felt more relieved than wronged. Dorito didn’t make her do anything bad, or embarrassing, or public. Dorito didn’t enjoy watching people suffer.

Dorito was okay in Chloe’s book, relatively speaking.
