Nathan had brought up that he liked rats and wouldn't mind having one of a pet. Next thing he knew Amber had taken his hand was dragging him through the city towards a pet store she knew. "So..uh...a pet store?" he'd ask as they made their way through the city, "you seem to like small animals a lot."

The vampire would look up as the neared the store, he'd stop outside a moment to look through the large window before being dragged in. "There's a lot of them," he'd say, his red eyes looking over the large number of pets in the store.

"You're gonna try and pet them all aren't you?" he'd ask, looking at her with a small chuckle.

"Well were else are we going to find you a new pet?" responded Amber, as if that wasn't the most obvious thing in the world "And yeah I just... I just love animals okay? Especially the fluffy ones because they are cute."

When Nathan asked her about petting each animal, she just grimaced and looked at all of the cages.

"I... as much as I would like too. I don't think the store would allow me. That and most animals tend to be... scared of me for some reason." said Amber. As to demonstrate, she had her hand brush against one of the cages and the small hamster creature inside darts into plastic castle. Amber just frowns for this is the reaction she came to expect out of most animals it seems.

"Huh," he'd watch as the animals ran from her, "well let's pick one that's calm around you." He'd clear his throat, "you're at my dorm a lot, so I want something that'll like you too." He'd walk a bit further into the pet store, his eyes looking over the different animals, from the birds, to the reptiles, there was a lot here.

"So what's your favorite animal?" he'd ask, before smirking a tiny bit, "or is it just all of them?" He'd wiggle a finger at a bird which preceeded to try and bite him through the cage before moving to the other side of the cage, "looks like some aren't fond of me either."

He'd approach the rate cage, with him motioning her to follow him, the rats ran back, except for a albino rat that looked up at them curiously. "Huh, look at this one," he'd wiggle a finger at it and it would lean its paws against the cage, sniffing his finger.

Amber winces at the aggression the bird displayed at Nathan. The foul fowl seemed to cackle as it waddles away in the far back of the cage. Honestly she just suspected that this particular bird was just... a jerk.

"I don't think that bird likes anyone." comforted Amber, trying to shift the fault from Nathan to the bird. "But... anyway... I like almost all animals but if I had to pick a favorite, I think it would have to be turtles because I have a pet turtle named at Waddles back at home."

Speaking so fondly of Waddles, Amber considered having Nathan look at the pet turtles. Before she could suggest this idea, he pointed out a curious rat that had seemed to have taken interest in them.

"OH? I think they like you~" noted Amber, bending to to smile at the small fuzzy critter as seems to reach out to Nathan "I think this might be a sign don't you think?"

"Maaaaaybe," he'd wiggle his finger at the rat a little more. "A pair of wings and he'd almost look like my bat form," he'd lean in a bit to see how it would react, said rat would continue to look up at them curiously, pawing at the glass as if he wanted out to check the pair out.

Slowly the vampire would smile. "Well......let's take a closer look," stepping away he'd get the store clerk to open the rat cage, Nathan would reach in, slowly and gently lifting the small animal. "Playful thing," he'd say as the rat ran up his arm to sit on his shoulder, then quickly ran between his shoulders before sliding down and disappearing into Nathan's pocket.

"Uh....," before Nathan could retrieve him.the rat would pop back out, looking over at Amber curiously. "Wanna hold him?" he'd ask his friend with a tiny chuckle.

"Well bats are just one evolutionary step away from bats?" said Amber thought even as she made this remark she wasn't sure if that was exactly true or not. Now it was something she was going to have to read up on. Last thing she wants is to be a source of misinformation.

When the clerk picked up the rat, Amber couldn't help but be in awe of how quick the rat had taken to Nathan, acting like he has been his lifelong pet despite this being their first interaction. When the rat snuggled itself into Nathan's pocket she was practically dying from the cuteness.

"Awwww... she likes you... or... he likes you." gushed Amber, smiling at the sight before Nathan offered for her to hold them.

At first she was hesitant at the idea in fear of rejection. Yet she holds out her hand out to the rat, which to her surprise and delight, it didn't go back into hiding in Nathan's pocket.

"Awww... you... you think s-so?" asked Amber, wanting to make sure that Nathan thinks this is good idea, still holding her hand out to hold onto the rat.

Nathan would offer a smile. "Yeah I guess he does," he'd gently run his finger over the rats head, he'd reply with a series of happy squeaks. "Guess he made the choice for me," he was already really happy with the energetic rat, he seemed friendly, despite his potential owner being biologically a predator.

"Yeah go ahead," he'd gently hold the rat out, if Amber went to hold him the rat would scurry up her arm, sitting on her shoulder and leaning his paws on her cheek as he sniffed her curiously. "Looks like he likes you too," Nathan would say with a tiny chuckle.

"Well.....guess we better get him a home now, and some food and all that," he'd say with a small smile. "And I'll need to think of a name I guess."

There was gasp from Amber as the rat skittered up the length of her arm, followed by her body going stiff so not the startle the creature. But as the rat looked comfortable on her shoulder she in turn began to relax.

"... aww... they really do like me." cooed Amber as they gently rub the the rat's head, smiling as the little fuzzball was receptive of their affections. When Nathan talked about finding a home for the rat Amber couldn't help but agree "Yeah... we should get them a new home... and name. Did you have any names in mind?"

The vampire would step over to the cages and began looking them over. "Names....no not really," he'd scratch the back of his head. "I could just call him rat?" he'd say, obviously joking as he picked up one of the cages to look over. "I'm not super great at naming things."

Setting the cage down he'd hold his hand out to the rat, who proceeded to run up his arm and sit on his shoulder. "How does Izzy sound to you?" he'd ask Amber, looking at her, his hand gently petting the rat. "Is that a girl's name? Sorta sounded gender neutral to me."

"Which cage do you like?" he'd ask, looking them over. "And.....thank you for taking me here," he'd tell her, still try to look grumpy, but mostly failing, even smiling a little.

"What? No!" protested Amber whom didn't quite catch on that Nathan was merely joking "You can't just name your new pet after what they are. Besides, how do we know if he is her? I mean... did you check that first?"

Amber couldn't help but feel a little weird wondering how it is they even... check the rat's gender. Maybe ask an employee? As Amber pondered, Nathan suggested the name Izzy which sort of circumnavigates the the whole gender issue for now.

"Oh Izzy? I mean... it can be a girl's name thought usually short for something like Isabella. But... I think Izzy is a great name! Better than just rat... as for the cage... hrrmmm..." Amber then perused the line of cages, eyeing each one for solid second before deciding on one of the larger and more colorful ones on display "... how about this one? Its got everything a rat would ever need more! Oh and thank you for bringing me along! This has been quite fun hee hee~"
