Adelaida was tired.

Nothing unusual, life was always just exhausting. From her outstretched palm she shot out a twenty-foot plume of brilliant fire - first green, then red, and then slowly tracing the spectrum of light until white. A pyrotechnic showing in the middle of the night; maybe some lucky passers-by saw the flames and enjoyed the brief distraction.

She too needed a distraction. Manta Carlos was safe, but tiring as always. The voices had shut up now that she'd vented the blaze within, and now there was nothing but starlight and cold concrete keeping her company on the rooftop.

I'm not a very regular poster. As such, I'd only take a max of two other people on here, and hope they're okay with sporadic posting.

"Very nice," Bel comment simply as she stepped out onto the roof just as a plume of fire shot across the moonlighted space.

"I see someone else has also found one of the school's many coveted hidey-holes," Bel said as she sat herself down against the wall and crossed her legs comfortably, not bothering to ask if it was okay or not to interrupt the young woman's quiet contemplation.

"Oh, welcome welcome... didn't know anyone had dibs on this place, sorry. Then again, place this strange, who's there to rat to?"

Adelaida saw instantly that the sudden guest didn't particularly care for niceties, considering how quickly the space was taken up. It was nice to have those kinds of guests. The ones that didn't wear you down with endless courtesies and polite gestures before getting to the point.

"You know your fires, I'm guessing? They speak to you too, or am I swimming alone?"

"You're fine," Bel said as she leaned her back comfortably against the wall and gazed calmly at the girl. "I wouldn't say I have exclusive dibs on this place. I just come here whenever I need to decompress."

"Manta Carlos can be a bit overwhelming, sometimes," she stated unabashedly as she turned her blonde head to look across the ramparts.

"You know your fires, I'm guessing? They speak to you too, or am I swimming alone?"

"Not really," she began. "At least not in the way you obviously do." Bel had seen the girl launch the fire from her hands.

"I mean, I like fire. I am very used to being around it," she said as the memories of huge bonfires came to mind.

"So, why are you up here alone at this hour?" Bel asked the young woman curiously. "I am guessing it wasn't to practice your pyrotechnics," she grinned.

"No, no it's not. I have this thing, see, where the fires keep nagging me, saying I wanna go out and burn something will you if I don't release them regularly. Normally I'd go down the lake but I figured out here would be fine."

Adelaida could feel the itch on her burns calming down and settling in. The fires stopped complaining, having been set free to scorch the air only moments earlier.

"And you? What brings you up here at n - n - night?" Adelaida asked, words interrupted by a tired yawn.

"Stress brings me up here," Bel said with a sigh. "Way too many things going on between exams, the cheer squad, and its drama, not too mention personal stuff," she grimaced. Her and Sam had fought again. Christmas was always stressful.

Adelaida reached out with one arm, as best she could from her splayed position on the cold ground. Whatever it was she was patting gently, she had no clue, and she brought her arm back quickly after.

"I get you, I get you. I'm always tired too. Sometimes I get to that point where I wonder why I'm fighting it, you know? So tiring to keep it in, find some reason to hold on. You get it? I think you do," Adelaida rambled, letting small flames dance on the tips of her fingers.

She sat upright and looked at her company for the first time in the evening. She was striking, but she looked like she'd seen much better days.

Bel did actually get it. She had been there herself. There had been days, especially in the past, where Bel had wanted nothing more than to disappear for a while and be by herself.

"I do actually know what you mean," she admitted quietly as she watched the flames roll across the young woman's fingers in quiet fascination.

"Sometimes, and especially during the month of Samhain, I often feel like ... like, I 've been swimming all day, " Bel said, trying to find a good analogy for that tired and listless feeling she got when her powers waned to nothing and the voices were strongest. "And I just want to give in to it all so I can shut it all out," she confessed as she stared up at the sky for a long moment. It had been a while sinceBel had admitted to anyone how tiring it was having to block out the often constant din around her.

Adelaida leaned herself over the edge, taking in the view. Out here, it was distant and quiet, and the view was almost picturesque. Almost a work of art on a canvas, just waiting to burn be hung on a museum wall somewhere. She took out her phone and began snapping away while thinking of her new companion.

She had some weight of her own, of course. Sometimes, weight was hard to share with people you knew, people who might act differently once they saw what was beyond the veil.

"Here's an idea. I don't know you, you don't know me. Makes us the perfect pair of secretkeepers, don't you think? How about you lay it on me, what makes someone like you walk up to the rooftop alone at night, or anything else you can't tell your friends. Then at the end of the night... we see if we care enough about each other to exchange names."

Bel looked straight at Adelaida, discerning her in the low light of the night sky, and listened as she spoke.

"I think I'd be okay with that," Bel said after a fashion. She had never spoken with anyone about the things that troubled her, not even with Azucena, who she had become fairly good friends with. So maybe confiding in this girl would be somewhat cathartic?
