The Week of August 20-24, 2018

Roldan brought in the last of the boxes off of the moving truck, setting it down inside the spacious living room. Things had been... strange lately. Being on leave and back on the job. The girl who he was pretty sure he'd been trying to get in his pants. That party he had had to patrol around. And most recently.

He still hadn't been able to believe it when Narraine's had shown up at his door. His heart had been in his throat for that entire conversation. And what she'd asked had been even more jarring. Iesha. She couldn't take care of her anymore. Working. Going to school.

Of course Roldan had said yes. On the condition of course that he be allowed custody of Iesha. If she couldn't take care of the girl now,cot wasn't fair to jerk her around from home to home all the time.

Iesha was, maybe in her room? He hadn't taken down the bed yet, so that was one less thing to deal with setting up, at least. Roldan stepped into the hallway and poked his head into Iesha's room.

"Hey... how ya doing in here?"

Iesha was laid in the middle of the bed, inking floral patterns on a drawing pad. The whole emotional exchange of Miss Narraine being unable to care for her for reasons she didn't entirely understand, the awkwardness of moving back in Roldan's home, her talk with Dalia about... everything. It was all... shocking to her with everything that happened recently. As Roldan called out to her, Iesha jerked her head to the door and slammed down her drawing pad to keep her illustrations hidden.

"O-ooohhh! U-umm... m-mister Roldan! I-I'm... u-uuhh..." Iesha looks away for a moment, unsure what she was feeling at the moment. After brief consideration she turned back, forcing a smile on her pretending that everything is alright.

"I... I am okey... yesss. Okey. Just-" she looks down to her drawing pad, then looks back to Roldan "...s-sssketching... umm... d-did... did you need anything? H-help with a-anything?"

"No, no. I got the last box in. We can unpack everything as you think we need to. I'm just..." He stopped in the doorway, leaning on his hand against the door frame. He wasn't a detective, but he knew enough to know Iesha was feeling pretty down. And probably confused. "Can I come in? Just... wanna talk a bit if that's okay."

Assuming she let him in, Roldan would sit cross legged on the floor and look at her briefly before he looked a little past her. Not wanting to intimidate or upset her anymore than she likely already was.
"I just wanted to make sure you're okay. And let you know that you can always talk to me about stuff."

Iesha stared, unblinking, at Roldan for several seconds. We was... unsure and honestly just wanted to be left along but she didn't to be rude Roldan. Not after taking her in like this even though he didn't have to. It was still.... very awkward given everything that transpired but considering what could have been... she was glad it was Roldan whom took her in.

"... y-yesss... y-you can c-come it. I-its... it isss you h-house... so... yesss." softly spoke Iesha, her eyes follow Roldan as he enters the room and takes a seat. He asked her if she was okey... question that she was sure the both of them both already suspected knowing.

"I... I t-think I will be... alright. I... I just wish I could... u-understand isss all."

"I- I get that. I mean. Narraine talked to me about it. She really does love you, Iesha. She just..." Roldan sighed. He couldn't explain it in a way that was satisfactory. She loved you, but she couldn't take care of you. And we would not get back together because the relationship was. Unsalvageable? Yeah, that was the best word for it.

"She loves you a lot, Iesha. And she did what she thought was best to make sure you're taken care of. I know it might not feel that way right now, but..."
But what? It'd get better with time? Roldan knew that was true, but their hearts we're both broken right now and it would take a long time for both of them to be normal.

"If you need time to yourself, I can go get stuff ready for dinner. I, uh. Still keep camel around. It's pretty good. I hadn't ever considered it before you moved in." Roldan smiled just a bit, hoping that a good meal might make Iesha feel even the teensiest bit better.

"O-oh the... the r-roahsted camel? You... you still sssome? Th-thanks." thanked Iesha, somewhat surprised but appreciating of Roldan. She could use some comfort food right about now as her mind returns to Narraine. The irony of Narraine loving her yet abandoning her was not lost on her. She understood that Narraine had to legitimate reasons but part of her can't help but feel that if Narraine really cared about her she would have found a way to still include her in her life. Not that she harbored ill feelings to Narraine but... it hurt that the first person that she became close to is not longer going to be part of her life now.

"I-I... I know t-that Missss Narraine l-loves and cares for me... b-but your right... it d-doesn't feel t-that way at the moment." spoke Iesha, letting out a dishearten sigh. "Umm... s-sssorry... I'll be d-down in a few minutes f-for dinner. A f-few minutes isss okey y-yesss?"

"Yeah," Roldan said, standing up. "You take as long as you need, Iesha. I'll let you know when food is ready."

Roldan slipped out of her room, partially shutting the door behind him. In the kitchen he poured himself just a little whiskey and got to work. A stew, maybe? That'd be simple enough, he figured. And it'd keep for a few days.

Cooking for someone else was good. It let him focus on it. Normally his mind would be wandering to the times he and Narraine had cooked together. Or the dates they'd gone on. Or... oh, he was doing it again. Roldan went back to dicing the meat and putting it into the pot to brown before he added in everything else.

He felt the tears coming, and he was ready for them. It wasn't the first time he'd cried since she left. And it probably wouldn't be the last. He wiped his eyes, trying once again to focus on the task in front of him.

It was few minutes that Iesha remained in her room after Roland left. Or at least she think it was a few minutes... she was bit unsure how long she decided to stay in her room but figured now was the time to join Roldan for dinner. Before she made him worried for her again. So she quietly slithered her way down to the kitchen. As she peered inside, she was taken aback by Roland wiping away his tears. She never saw Roland, a tough fire-breathing dragon, cry ever. Was it because of her somehow? Memories of Miss Narraine? Or... maybe he was just finished cutting onions. Whatever the reason she wasn't sure if it was her place to ask why Roland was crying...

"U-um... h-hi Roldan... d-dinner isss almost ready?" inquired Iesha, now making her presence known to Roldan while trying not to draw attention to Roldan's tears.

Steeling himself at the sound of Iesha's voice, Roldan turned and gave her a tight smile. "Hey, Iesha. Yeah, it's nearly finished. If you want, you can go ahead and sit at the table. I'll bring you a drink."

The table in question was large and low to the ground, with large, thin cushions that a lamia could easily coil up on to sit comfortably.

When the food was ready, he brought out a bowl of the stew for Iesha, and one for himself. Sitting across from her, he smiled and waited to see how she liked the food before he started eating. He'd long since dried his eyes, not wanting to worry Iesha any more than she already was.

"Is it okay? Did I do alright with the seasoning?"

"O-oh okey... ttthanks Roldan." Iesha then excused herself, slipping into her seat and waits patiently for Roldan to come by with in with their meals. It wasn't long until Roldan emerged catering a meaty stew with a savory aroma.

"T-thanks Roldan. I-it smells good... v-very good." she exclaimed as he sets her bowl in front of her. She is mindful and waits for Roldan to take a seat as well before she picks up her soup spoon. As she scoops up the stew, she blows several times to cool the liquid and slurping up the broth, savors the flavor before swallowing.

"Mhhhmm! Y-you d-did good Roldan! A-almost how-" there is an awkward pause before Iesha continues "i-its good."

Not wanting to enter into silence or conversation on Narraine, Iesha piped up with small talk to distract the both of them.

"H-how is... ummm... policemen w-work Roldan?"
