"You'll need to pick an elective, and since you were unsure we thought we'd recommend you to the choir! It'll be a good place to socialize and make new friends."

Remi stared blankly at the closed door to the choir room, first one here of the period it seemed. She glanced down at the doorknob, then at the door with a few overly-colorful posters and flyers about music and concerts, then back to the doorknob... Back to the door... A quick glance over her shoulder only reinforced the fact that this hallway was empty right this second, and the only other sounds than the rustling of her clothing was that of other students in other wings of the academy that slowly echoed their way through the halls.

It was super awkward.

Why had she let them talk her into this? If she took an art class instead then she could just sit and work on art and be left alone or something, even if it wasn't really her thing.

She hated the feeling of the nerves bubbling up from her gut to her chest like she'd drank too much soda.

She took in a sharp breath and tested the doorknob; classroom was unlocked, and when she poked her head inside she saw it was fairly plain--more posters on the walls, some seating but no desks, etc. etc... And no teacher. Or they might be in their office, who knows. So, as quietly as she could she slipped inside, silently shutting the door behind her as she found her way to the farthest back corner seat as possible, where she plopped down her bookbag on the floor beside her and straightened out her skirt with a sneer of disdain.

Uniform felt too fancy. All of this was too fancy, and new, and different.

She hated new, and she also hated different.
