It had taken some time, and a lot of experimentation. It wasn’t easy to find similar, equivalent ingredients in an entirely different dimension--but it was possible. And the final ingredient she needed, perhaps the most important, was closer than she thought. Her own scales, ground into a fine powder, was the final piece. It was no surprise Laila would willingly give a piece of herself if it meant helping the Arore sisters—even now that they were all adults and she was no longer their caregiver. The scale was no big deal though—one scale, crushed into a fine powder, was more than enough for several bottles. The scale would grow back by the time she needed to make more.
Laila had spent a lot of time trying to recreate the potion she had so heavily relied on back in her home dimension—the Full Moon Suppression Potion. It allowed Lamia to avoid the effects of the full moon, and without it, Laila would not have been nearly as useful as the caregiver to the Arores. She could not waste her time with the pursuit of males.
Laila had experienced the full moon twice now. It was…dreadful. She was unstable and out of control. She despised it. She prided herself in her calm, peaceful demeanor—of being in control.
She had experimented on herself during the last full moon, drinking a bit of the concoction. It had worked, leaving her fully in control and with no noticeable side effects other than some dizziness. She declared it safe enough for her girls.
Rana had already made it clear that she wanted nothing to do with the potion, but the rest of the sisters had expressed an interest. Chi was first in line, desperate to not feel that unnatural attraction to men she otherwise did not experience at all.
“Mama, why are you so amazing?” Chi asked as she hugged Laila tight, the potion bottle in her hand. It was the first time she had really seen Chi smile in a while—things were a bit complicated at the moment. The two had moved into Rolden’s mansion after the whole mess, and spent much of their time together.
“The others should be around to pick up their bottles soon,” Chi then said as she checked her phone, having contacted her sisters earlier that day. She let them know they could come right in—that Laila and Chi would be waiting in the kitchen. Except for Rana, who decided to be weird and continue to act insane during the full moon. Whatever, thought Chi.
Laila had the bottles out on the table in the kitchen, as the two of them waited for the others to come. Chi, feeling a bit brighter, was chatting away while Laila listened intently, as she always did.
