A Far False Light

From so far away, everything was as it should be. What the humans called the Carina nebula, and the star system at the center of it, was still shining. Time had not yet caught up to this world...and it wouldn't for almost eight thousand years. By relativistic physics, her people were still alive, she hadn't been born...and wouldn't be for a very long time. And yet, from her spot on the roof, staring up with blind silver eyes, she couldn't see it. Not right now anyways.

This planet though was promising. Warm, inviting...at least the parts she had seen so far over the past week or so. Earth was made of mostly liquid water...of course there was ice, but it was restricted to the caps. Most of the time, it stayed in vast oceans such as the ones they were surrounded by, or...it rained.

Just as it was right now. Frankly, Cytus looked like a turkey staring into the sky.

The pale blue-skinned being closed her eyes, held out her arms and stretched, getting ready to go back inside. But not before feeling a close by presence. A student of the academy perhaps?

"Who is there?"

The question was simple, emotionless. On the inside however, Cytus was a little bit excited. She had been too shy to interact with anyone on her own time, but maybe now the intrusion gave her something of an excuse to do some talking.

But talk about what, if anything?

From the roof of the school, the view was quite breathtaking. One could see the entire campus; the rolling green of the grounds, the smaller buildings, dorms and the clear blue skies of this planet called earth. In Sayuri's mind, brought to mind a memory from her childhood. She could recall clearly that moment, when her father sat with her on the balcony of their palace and explained to her what it meant to be a princess. She smiled a bit as she recalled the beauty of Kitsunemori's sprawling imperial city; the site of it still etched into her memory from that day. It was a beautiful place, feudal-era style buildings as far as the eye could see, calm streams, and the same clear blue sky that was now streached out before her.

She could also remember sitting happily on her father's lap, his nine tails wrapping around her like a blanket to keep her protected from the warm morning air. "One day...this place and all beyond it will be yours, Sayuri. When it is, you must make sure that you take care of it, protect it, and build it up into something greater then before. As the Princess, you are expected to live for Kitsunemori and her well-being, and in return, Kitsunemori will loyally serve you..." In Sayuri's mind, those words where why she was on this mission. As Kitsunemori's princess, her power, her wealth, depended on the empire's well being and continued existence, and with the Nemesis Paradox threatening her empire she now had no choice but to travel to a place where she was an outsider and an alien.

However, for now, the sky stretched out before her filled her head with fond memories of home, but at the same time, made her start to think about just how -different- things on earth where. Technology was lower. There where far less Youkai and far more languages and cultures. More importantly, though...things where so...chaotic. There was no centeral authority, no emperor and royal family to organize and control the common rabble with their enlightened rule. This planet was a mess, and the more she thought about it, the more alien Sayuri felt.

She took a deep sigh and turned back to go and meet Itou to discuss the next phase of the mission..and then noticed...something. Some kind of strange white haired woman. The school was a strange place, but this being didn't look remotely like any of the standard mythical creatures she had encountered. While Sayuri was admittedly a bit interested, she had a mission to, and she -hoped- that this person would not see her or -heaven forbid- try to engage in smalltalk. The mission couldn't wait for some woman in white. After all, every second that passed was one second closer to the nemesis paradox taking away everything Sayuri values.

Right as she neared the door down, the woman had the -gall- to pose her a question.

"Who is there?"

Oh god no.. Sayuri thought to herself. Wanting to get to Itou as quickly as possible made a harsh response. "Your superior, commoner. I am Megumi no Miya Sayuri Naishinnou of Kitsunemori, and you're delaying my mission!"

Cytus was rather taken aback at the response she got. So far, she had learned that a neutral question often solicited a neutral response right back, but apparently, such a rule was actually more like a guideline in certain cases. That guideline however was only applicable for humans...and the extra anatomy that this being was carrying meant that she was certainly not human. The closest thing she had read about was a fox...but there were no fox-human hybrids that Cytus had ever been aware of.

Maybe this was one of those special cases that Starlight was apparently known for.

Cytus folded her hands in front of her, covered by the robes and shielding herself from the rain, she also tilted her head at what could have been the most excessively long name she had ever heard.

"My superior? Do long names denote status? I was not aware that this school had anything of the sort...and what mission am I delaying? If you do not wish to stay, that is acceptable. I was merely here enjoying the water."

Rain was still something of an alien word...it didn't rain where she was from, it didn't even snow most of the time. But ice storms were certainly a common sight. It was said only the poles ever got that cold on this planet. Suddenly, she had a longing to visit. Cytus tilted her head slightly.

"I do hope you'll forgive my intrusion, I was not aware that this area was restricted to anyone, nor do I believe it is. I am willing to share the space with you."
