"Well, I hope your persuasive skills are up to scratch... Then again, I never really met the goddess Freyja in person."

As surprising as the news was, Stefan wasn't completely out of the woods yet. She set down the soda bottles on the ground, letting out a dry chuckle at the thought of Skogul beating the tar out of a younger Stefan. The thought of the Valkyries being so... familiar with a complete stranger she just met set her mood down a slope. She looked significantly less happy, giving Stefan a flicker of a glare.

"It sounds like you don't know what the Valkyries did to her. When was the last time you heard from her, I wonder?"

"Mom isn't that bad. She may have some war in her, but she leans towards the love and beauty."

Stefan continued to nurse his own drink as they talked. It was refreshing to speak to someone who wasn't in complete awe of who he was, though he felt he was about to learn why. Seeing Trinity's Mood seemingly drop and the stare she gave hinted that there was something more there.
"Until very recently, I hadn't even been home to Fólkvangr in years. And it was even before that?"
Stefan sighed a bit. He was aware of the rift between Odin and Freyja, as well as the Valkyries that 'served' each. He felt like this was heading down that route that his mother had shielded him from. When Stefan spoke again, his voice was softer and more compassionate. True concern coming forth in his tone.
"So, no I'm not aware. I'm sorry."

"...Don't be." Trinity took a deep breath. She never really liked talking about her heritage. She started pacing, hands behind her back, to avoid looking Stefan in the eye. Hopefully Freya's kin would be at least more understanding than her subjects. She tried her best to keep her tone calm, but couldn't keep the acid out of her voice.

"It's a bit of a long story... but summarized, my mother was stripped of her wings and sent to Hel when the Valkyries found out that she had been spending time with a mortal. Now I am being crafted to be her replacement." She absently touched her forearm, where a fresh scar from yesterday was healing.

"They have not been kind to me. Neither have they acted heroically, or in any way your stories painted them."

Stefan listened intently. He wanted to know where she was coming from and how he might be able to help her. The compassion he got from his mother coming to the forefront.
"That's....not ok. Any of it. But also realize not all Valkyries are like that. The ones I grew up with travel along side my mother to select those who have died deaths filled of love compassion and heartbreak. My mom herself had a thing for a mortal. It's why I'm here."
The demigod found himself telling a bit more about himself than he normally did to a stranger, but if she was a valkyrie, she wasn't a stranger.
"I...I can't make any promises, but I can talk to mom, Freyja, and see if there is anything she can do to help. I'm sure you'd be welcome there with her and the others. They still train...hard...but it's not torturr."

"...Hold on." Trinity held out a hand. "This is getting a bit much. We just met, and you want to talk to your m-- give me a moment."

Trinity continued her pacing, this time more rapidly. She was completely calm now, even a bit hopeful about the prospect of something, anything, changing. But still, things were moving a bit too fast, and she barely knew this person.

"First of all... some part of me really does want to believe the Valkyries are benevolent, or just want to train me to be the best. But the way they speak to me, how I was dragged into this without them listening to what I had to say... sometimes it feels like a punishment, you know?"

She sighed. "I don't know... it's hard to think about what could happen now, but... do try to talk to Freya, I suppose. I have no idea how it will go, but..." Trinity shrugged. This is completely new territory.

Stefan waited, giving her time to process everything. He knew it had to be a lot, especially having no way to really prepare for it. He watched her pacing and could almost see the thought process going on.
"I understand. I do. Growing up everything was just because I was Freyja's son, and not because of who I was individually. I never understood why they dismissed me, why they expected do much from me only to be disappointed when I couldn't live up to unreachable expectations."
His voice was calm as he spoke. Stefan might be one of the few on the island that actually understood and had seen the results from their methods.
"But I realize now, and ever since going back after years of being away it is because they saw a lot in me. They were pushing me to achieve my full potential. When they were disappointed it wasn't just at me, it was also at themselves for letting me down."
Stefan sighed heavily. He had a biased view of the Valkyries, he knew that. But he also couldn't just dismiss what she was saying and move on.
"Maybe it's because I have do much of my mom in me that I want to help. And I know it's weird because we literally just met. But I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. I can help, even if it's just an understanding ear."

Trinity felt as though she were unloading quite a bit of information on Stefan. He had been nothing but supportive all this time. Quite a bit more than she expected from anyone, much less the son of a goddess.

"Imagine that... The Valkyries failing me. Wonder if they'd reconsider if I told them that..."

Trinity fell silent again for a moment, thinking about it. She had stopped pacing and just stared straight at Stefan, or a little to the left. Maybe she should give the Valkyries another chance. Then again, she'd been giving them years to prove that they cared about their protege, even if just for a bit. Choosing the right path wasn't always as difficult as figuring out which path to take. At least Stefan was willing to listen.

"I think I'd be more accepting of my role if it didn't make life so difficult, you know? Did you know that I was planning to stay inside for a couple more weeks so that I wouldn't hurt anyone? The role the Valkyries pushed on me isn't so easy to control... as you saw earlier."
She waved her right hand in the air. Most of the bleeding had stopped now. "Things like earlier are the least of my problems. I've lost control more times than I could count, with bigger consequences."

"But you will learn to control it. Or at least learn when you need to step away from a situation."

Stefan understood what it was like to not be in control. It was unnerving. He didn't know what happened with her, but knew the basic idea of it. Stefan smiled at her comment of telling the valkyries they failed her.
"Now now. I didn't say that. Telling them they are wrong or failed never ended well for me."
A small chuckle came through as he grabbed his case and bag, tossing it over his shoulder.
"If you aren't busy, how about we grab lunch and can continue taking?"

Trinity considered it. She wasn't planning to do anything later; in fact, she was planning to go home and watch 6 seasons of that one show until class started. Which meant hanging out alone for another couple of weeks.

But maybe a little more human interaction would be healthy for her. After all, didn't she come to this island to regain a bit of her social sensibilities?

"Uh... sure. I've only been here for a couple of days, though, so I don't really know any good places to eat. Your call."

Stefan tossed out his signature lopsided grin when she accepted. It would be nice to talk to someone that had a more personal experience with things closer to his home life that really anyone else on Manta Carlos.
"I know a few places. Come on, lunch on me. Little proof that not all of us are terrible."
He made sure to keep his voice light and playful. The last thing Stefan wanted to do was agitate her further and cause her to leave or worse. Having her slip back into a potential bloodlust and it being his fault would not bode well for his argument.
Walking a little down the street, he slipped into a small diner and took a seat in a booth. Shortly, a waiter brought over a pair of menus before disappearing again to give them a moment to look the menus over.
"This place has the best milkshakes on the island."
